Disney official .... Soarin'

I have been saving for 3 years for my second trip to Disney in April 2016... I am gutted that I am coming all the way from the UK and two of my favourite rides will be closed. I am excited still of course, as Disney is better than no Disney, but I am thinking I should have waited until 2017 after all...

Looks like Test Track is going to be maxed out on FP for a few months.

Question: allears has Soarin listed as staying open during the construction. Do you think it's possible that they keep one theatre open while they work on it or is the closure for the entire ride a set thing?

- Lots of bloggers and websites were predicting it would stay open with the theory Disney only had to punch a hole out at the back of the building. The construction plan will not support that. DISNEY has officially posted it is closing, with a date. Those sites will need to update.

- No it is not possible given that much of the construction will happen to the queue lines. It makes the most sense to close and do all at the same time to coordinate it with the completion of the new theater. It has been the plan to shut the whole thing down for some time and the CMs were prepared for that.

I'm so pissed! I plan a trip 6+ months in advance because if I want ADR's that is what I have to do and then when I'm 3 months from vacation they announce more refurbs! I get refurbs have to be done but there is no reason this couldn't have been announced earlier! My husband is not a big WDW fan and goes to entertain me but I'm worried that having DHS being a shell of a park, Soarin being down, Downtown being a mess, and Buzz being down (which was my husbands favorite ride) with the crowds continually increasing that the parks are going to be miserable.

They should've waited until the frozen ride was open before they close down Soarin. There is simply not enough to do at Epcot as it is.

My understanding is that was the original plan. But Frozen is now opening much later than I think was originally planned for an overlay change with minimal construction. Soarin' is on schedule and it makes no sense to stop work on it and delay it's opening for six months. It is better to hope to have them both open for the busy summer months.

I look forward to a new show, I just hope the new music is as epic as the original.

Oh no-I never thought about them changing the music, I LOVE the Soarin music. Oh when you thought it couldn't get any worse....Better not replace it with "Let it Go"....

We planned our trip and I knew being January there would be refurbs. Universal hit us first with the Hulk, and then Space Mountsin is supposed to be down for one week, the week we are there! So we arranged to get there a day early! Soarin' is my favorite ride, but no chance of making it there that early, so I guess I need to plan another trip! I was bummed, but one ride won't make or break our trip. Just spend a little extra time in the WS.

I was hoping it won't close until after our trip, oh well.

On the plus side we plan to go to Disneyland in fall/early winter 2016 so hopefully we will be able to do it there instead.

Rumor was also that Soarin' would only close a few days to add the theater and now we are talking 6 months. Refurb ... they are getting new screens, new digital projection equipment, the new theater, all new queue lines because the theaters are supposed to be designated FP+ or Standby, and in August Disney said this about the film ....

Unless there has been a major change of plans, I would expect the new movie.
Orlando Theme Park News was one of the first sites to mention the 6 month closure that would start in January, which they posted about back on 10/8, so they seem to have credible sources. They're saying that Soarin' is not expected to reopen with the new film, but that it would come later in the year.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

Which is totally bizarre, you close it that long, you include the new film. It is already at Disneyland, correct?

I think it would have made just as much sense to maintain as many rides as possible for any season.

Ugh, Epcot will soon be Test Track, Spaceship Earth, LWTL and some outdated stuff for a while. If you want to ride things, there won't be much.

I doubt that the Frozen thing would do much to help. It will be low capacity so the best it would probably do is absorb people into a line.
