Disney Official info about CSR and CBR EXPANSIONS

I have always found Disney to do pretty good with resort construction and keeping the impact low on guests. Look at Wilderness Lodge or the Poly as recent examples. Will there be some impact in August for you? Probably but not enough that would make me change resorts or worry too much.
Thank you!

Am sure you will not be alone .... it's been getting hard already to justify.

If the rates are going up and the immersion goes down, I don't see myself splurging.

I like to be there as often as I can and to do that I stay wherever
I get the best rates (within reason, I have minimums ).

Add our family to the list of priced out if the price goes up much more. We stayed at the Poly for many years and we were priced out of there. We've had several good years at CSR, but we now pay more to stay there for a week than we use to pay at the Poly.

We recently discovered that Universal is a lot of fun and are actually splitting our May trip between Disney and Universal. Once we get priced out of CSR we will stay offsite and see what other fun things there are to do in Orlando.

This is sad. I've stayed at both resorts and loved them, especially CSR. I stayed in the Ranchos section and loved walking the grounds at night. I didn't get the feeling that it was a convention center, except when I was in the food court. The tower looks non-descript; another hotel much like anything found on International Drive. At least make it look like something with a theme corresponding to the rest of the resort. And what is to become of the Dig Site? Is that where the tower will be or did I read it wrong? I enjoyed several afternoons in the pool and thought it to be one of the better themed pools in all of WDW. I hoped to return there someday, but if this is what is to become of the property, I'm out.

In the hotel business it has become common for two different concepts at two different price points to be colocated. Bonnet Creek is an example of this: A Waldorf Astoria and Hilton actually connected. Guests can each other's restaurants etc.

I'll be staying at CSR for the first time this August and I'm kind of bummed about this announcement. Hopefully there won't be too much progress by then and I'll get to experience it before all the changes.

They are taking out a couple (I think) of the cabana section buildings. They are also putting an island and bridges into the water to better connect the resort. That part is way over-due,imho. Can't say I'm not nervous about my stay in October.

I can't imagine raising the prices too much on all the rooms with outside corridors. One of the reasons I like to stay deluxe is indoor corridors for the rooms.

we are just the opposite. we have stayed at all levels of resorts. but we prefer outside corridors. if deluxe, we like a balcony.. we like to just steop outside. at the moderates, you can step out of your room, walk a little bit, and have a total dif. view. we aren't fans of "tower" type resorts.

now to me that is a great idea. the one thing I always hated about CSR was that the main pool is so far from the food court.

Does anyone know how bad the construction will be this upcoming mid April at these two resorts? What should people expect??

Same here! I always try to keep an open mind about changes at WDW, but this just makes me so sad. CSR is our go-to. If we get priced out, the only moderates we're going to have left is Port Orleans, which we're not a fan of. Feels like we're being forced to go deluxe or value. :(

On a side note, should I expect the worst for our upcoming August trip? I request a casitas or cabanas room. I'm guessing construction will be well underway by then.

Disney seems to renovate rooms well, closing a building at a time, keeping it as quiet as they can even though you can see signs of the work but this is a different story.

A section of cabanas is being demo'd and the construction of a 15 story building will be major. The placement of the deep support system alone is going to be a big noise generator. Add all the other things they will be building that will impact the lake, the walkways to the main hub, the main hub itself. I don't see them dragging this thing out since the noise impact is likely to be considerable I imagine them doing as much work concurrently as they can.

Major construction at other resorts has come with considerable complaints. Years of folks not happy with the Polynesian work and Wilderness Lodge work - asking to be moved, and right now Wilderness Lodge's work has come with many noise issues. You just can't do the level of work they will be doing without a huge impact to resort guests. I LOVE CSR, but I don't see myself booking during this construction unless they drop rates significantly. I'm not paying inflated rates for my vacation to be dealing with this. On flip side, this might not bother some folks.

Sample of WL noise and they aren't even pounding yet.

JUST AWFUL I would not be leased at al to spend money to stay at a resort and have that as my view and the noise. I would rather they take those rooms out of inventory.

Dear Guest,

We are delighted you have chosen to stay with us at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort!

Here at Walt Disney World Resort, we are always looking to deliver more unforgettable experiences and magic to our guests.

Over the next two years, the Convention Center, Guest rooms and surrounding areas will be undergoing a refurbishment. New distinct touches and a new colour palette will be introduced to the Guest rooms and across the resort to help tell the story of the great Francisco de Coronado, and to reflect the vibrant spirit of adventure that lived within the Spanish explorers. In addition to the existing Guest rooms being refurbished, the transformation will also include the addition of a 15 storey tower, adding additional services, such as Club Level and Concierge, and a rooftop restaurant and bar, allowing spectacular views of the night time firework displays.

We have a long tradition of enhancing our resorts while also maintaining the magic of the Disney experience, as we have with Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Rest assured, while we are working our magic across Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, we are making every effort to ensure our guests experience the comfort and enjoyment of all we have to offer. The renovation will be taking place in blocks, therefore Guest impact will be kept to an absolute minimum, however there may be some noise between the hours of 9:00am – 17:00 pm and we may have alternate paths of travel throughout the resort. We have been advised that guests will not be situated near the work area and we anticipate that all Dining Options and Resort Amenities will be available to guests throughout this time.

We do apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you during your stay and appreciate your patience and understanding. We are confident that the work taking place will have little or no impact on the enjoyment of your stay. If you need assistance with your reservation please call our Disney Experts on 0800 169 0730 where we will be waiting and very happy to help.

We eagerly await your arrival and wish you a truly magical stay at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort.

Magical Regards,
Guest Care

I am staying in August and just booked my dining for my trip. Maya Grill has nothing available on 8/23 (my check-in date). Just out of curiosity I looked at other days in August and it seems to have plenty of availability on most other days but not 8/22 or 8/23. Am I missing something? I'm totally confused. Is it supposed to close at some point during the refurb?

I think we will see a total reclassification of the resort. There is a rumor that Disney wants to reclassify resorts based on location rather than Deluxe, Moderate, Value.

I agree that there will be major changes in resort classifications, but I am not sure how many resorts Disney can price in the Deluxe range and still see occupancy levels remain high. It does not matter to me what they call these resorts, the price is the price.

I am reserving judgement on how the tower will affect the ambiance of CSR once it is completed, but I do think that it is going to be the driver for enticing more conventions to come to Disney, raising "Business Class" to a whole new level literally! I also think that Disney will steer more of their businesses towards CSR rather than BC or CR.

Now CBR? I really think that resort is going DVC. Personally, I believe this is the resort that will determine if pricing can change from "class" to location. If Disney can market the location with their gondola system, if that does come to fruition, then they can now sell DVC units in the same price range as the WL and Poly.

Think about this ...
.... all the talkers were sure that DVC was coming to CSR in the area of the new tower location.
.... all the talkers are sure that DVC is coming to CBR in the northern of the new tower location.
.... Disney announces that CSR tower is a HOTEL.
.... We really don't know that this CBR tower won't be a hotel as well.

I won't even address the stupidest idea ever on so many levels ....

Oh I have thought about it, and I am not saying that I think DVC is going to be a viable option for either of these sites. I am not sure that Disney is in tune with their guests lately. I honestly do not know what is going to happen, but I do think that once the dust settles and these towers spring up, we will see higher prices one way or another.

I never thought CSR would be DVC< but I did think it was underutilized as a convention center. When we stayed there a year ago December, our departure day was an eye opener. From stem to stern, the entire resort was changed, with the business logo everywhere and no indication that CSR existed. No access to the food courts or restaurants, we could just enter the market. Period. That episode made me wonder how many businesses wanted their conventions to be fully immersive while they conducted their meetings etc, and how possible that was from the other resorts that offer convention packages. A "hotel" is not something I would be drawn to, and I still cannot picture what it will look like, but I bet that DIsney might think it will serve as some sort of barrier.

I just cannot comprehend the impact the changes to CBR will have. I do wonder if Disney has lost sight of the budgets their guests have. I knew that the addition of DVC was an issue if it was a moderate resort, so if they price this one to deluxe, and CSR is also priced according to amenities and location, what then? The few remaining Mods are now going to be booked solid, and I bet their pricing then changes to reflect their popularity. I am trying to be positive here, but I just dont know.

Actually no. Lately all of the talkers were talking about CBR and how that was getting DVC. There was a CSR DVC rumor a while back but it wasn't major.

At this point in time I don't see why CBRs tower wouldn't be DVC. The CSR tower is specifically for convention guests. Convention guests complain about the rooms and how spread out this resort is all of the time.

From what I understand the CBR DVC will be sort of its own thing. It will be connected to CBR but kind of be like how Kidani Village is separate from Jambo. CSR is all about appealing to the business/convention clientele it's that simple.

Wasn't trying to put words in your mouth. I just think it's interesting that the "plan" so many were sure of at CSR was just plain wrong.

Interesting about your stay. DS stayed last year but my last was two years ago. It would be a shame if they put the full focus on conventions when it has one of the best main pools, period. Maybe part of their push is for convention folks to bring their families and therefore folks are spending money while businesses are also paying for things.

CBR ..... wow, so many things wrong here ... but then again, we don't have any official information from Disney on it's future.
