Just thought you'd all get a kick out of this.

My DH bought the domain name *******.com awhile ago and was going to work on making it a DVC info website but, of course, hasn't had the time.

Well, he's got a way to see who checks out the site and saw Disney was checking it out about twice a month for a few months.

Then one day last week, he got an email from a Disney employee (in Product Management & Operations department, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Online) inquiring about whether he'd be willing to sell it to them but that they wouldn't pay 'too much' for it.

My DH contacted them and said they could have it if they would just pay our DVC dues this year.

Well, they declined my DH's offer.

Isn't that interesting? My DH thinks they'll call again. I don't think that's an unreasonable offer. My DH owns it for another 13 years.

Just thought I'd share this little DVC related story!

WOW!! That is really interesting. I don't think your offer is unreasonable. I would add up what the dues is and put it in a $$$ form. That way when they call again (and they will) you can give them a $ figure.

My DH was only asking for the dues to be paid for this year and he gave the guy the exact amount.

I thought it was pretty darn interesting myself!

Usually big companies want accept first offers. When they come back, I would ask them to pay dues for the rest of your years. See how bad they want it then!! That still wouldnt be a bad deal for them if they want it enough.

We've told a couple of friends/family that are in the computer business and they also thought they would have paid more than just our dues, but alas they declined.

Can you imagine if they did call back and my DH asked for all our dues to be paid for life! That would be almost $50,000! I highly doubt if they said no to one year of dues that they'd go for 38 or so years of dues. But I can dream!;)

I think I would have let Disney make the first offer. But IF this site was to be used primarily for info for existing members, it would come out of all of our dues. That maybe why they would not take you up on your offer.

BTW, DVC already owns *******.net

Funny they declined it since they can't get it for another 13 years and its a better address than the *******.net address.

Let them make an offer next time & see what it is.

Wow, I cna't believe they didn't agree to that. Very interesting indeed....
Keep us posted!

Next time ask what they want to pay, and then counter with a fixed amount. Do not tie it into a due's payment. Make it a pure business offer, not a barter. I sold a web address I owned to a hotel company and it was for alot more than a year's dues!!!

We just read this, and also both think your offer was not unreasonable. Hang in there, they might change their mind!

The next time they call, tell them you'ld like to help them, but your in negotiations with a porn website for the name. And they're offering you 10 years of paid dues.

That is not necessarily right.

Before I retired part of my job with a major company was negotiating. What you got was a probe trying to find out what you will take.

I just wrote out what I would do and when I read it I realized what an ideal way to put you to sleep. So here is the short version.

It's just like buying and selling a house. Offer and counter offer. You price it for more than you want and they offer less.

Somewhere between you all come up with a fair price. One that both sides are willing to pay and accept.

Except your first move is to ask them what they are willing to pay and get an answer. It may be more than what you want for it. If so, anything over is pure gravy. Insist they give you a price first.

And remember the deadline. This offer ends at x time and date.

If they really wanted it they would have paid that. I bet you'll hear fromt then again but the interest from Disney will be the same, in the $50-100 range.

Thta is funny! I was thinkng along similar lines, but not quite the porn site!
I even thought about this when I was trying to fall asleep last night.
Maybe if you put up info regarding other Orlando timeshares on your site they might pay for the name! LOL
Bad, but I'm still blown away they wouldn't take your offer.

Wow. That's funny.

Actually, putting porn sites up on cyber squatted domains is very common. whitehouse.com used to be a porn site, not sure, it may still be. Many famous people's names were regestered and porn site linked to on them.

I think this is actually an illegal practice now.

For *******.com, I am surprised they didn't take that.

While porn may specifically be illegal, medical info regarding anal fissures, their treatment and some pictures of just how bad they can get, would be helpful and a public service....pm me and I can send you pics from my experience(only kidding)

What's so funny about selling a web address that I didn't need any more except for me laughing all the way to the bank? I only had it because I couldn't make up my mind which address I wanted in 1996 for my company and took three while deciding. Used one and a year later get a call to buy the one I had. I listened and asked what they were willing to pay and almost fell off my chair when they made an offer. I added a thousand to the offer and they said OK you have a deal. All for a $35 investment as I didn't make mind up. This was before the additional .net and all came into play. Once the .com name was gone it was gone.
