Disney Nostalgia Pictures

I like that sign- Admission 10 cents! :)

I missed that sign, thanks for pointing that out; PinkBudgie! :thumbsup2

I guess that price a lone ages me! :rolleyes1

Gosh, it's a sad day when the toys you played with as a child are considered vintage!! :sad2:

fox.jpg

Sherry E, could this be the one you had your picture with? This is the one from Pinnochio, I believe, but I always thought he was a fox. I am hoping he is what you are thinking of! This is me with my sister. :)

And yes! I guess my pictures are pretty old! :lmao: But, hey! I am still in my 40's!!!! So I'm not ancient! Ha! Ha! :rotfl2:

No, you are definitely not ancient or old (I am in my 40's too!!!)! It's funny because being in the 40's is not chronologically old, but is considered old to a lot of people these days (like in the job market or whaveter)!

You know, when I see your picture, that clearly looks like the fox from Pinocchio. The outfit is right and the hat all that. In the pictures I have from the early '90s with the wolf, the outfit is different (he is wearing a dark blue vest). I was certain that it was the Big Bad Wolf, because the 3 Pigs used to come out a lot up until maybe 1994 or whatever. But after someone pointed out that one of the villains I took pictures with in my PhotoPass stuff from last October was Don Karnage - who wore a light-colored jacket- then it was suggested that the one I took pictures with in the '90s was Don Karnage. I still think it was the Big Bad Wolf. If you can make it over to my TR to check it out (link below in signature), then maybe you will be able to tell me. But I will post the link to one of the wolf pictures here a little bit later on. I don't think he is the Pinocchio fox character now that I see yours, because the costumes more or less stay the same over the years, even if they improve in quality.

And I love the old pictures - I consider old to be anything '80s and earlier - but there is something just really cool about the look of the pictures from the '70s and '60s. Disneyland was so different then from what it is now, but I like it! I prefer the original, super-retro version of Tomorrowland (pre-makeover) because it reminds me of nostalgia and the version of Tomorrowland that I grew up with. Don't get me wrong - I LOVE the DLR of today, 2009, but there is no escaping the fact that the nostalgic pictures remind me of my first trips to DL and how magical and exciting it was!!!

Keep 'em coming!

I posted these over in my TR along with others, but they are appropriate here. These are from 1972:

Hmm, interesting about SherryE's mystery character. I suppose I would need an actual picture of the character in question in order to really tell, but maybe this will help?

This is what Honest John (Pinocchio fox) looked like in the early 90s:

This is the Big Bad Wolf, who as far as I know, has never worn a vest:

Does he look like either of these guys?

I think I used the wrong word when I said 'vest.' I don't know why I said that when I was thinking 'short jacket'!!! Anyway, no, I don't think he looks like either of the ones in your pictures. Maybe it IS Don Karnage with a different colored jacket? Okay, let me go find him in my Trip Report and come back with the link so you can see it. I will take one last look at your pictures to be sure, but I don't THINK the one I got was either of those.

I don't want to veer too far off topic because this is supposed to be a Nostalgia thread, but just to solve the mystery once and for all, I guess it is Don Karnage! I went back into my Trip Report and compared these photos.

Here he is from 1994. I was thinking the jackets were different, but now that I see them, they aren't (except one is old and one's new). I think the Don Karnage of '94 was taller than the one in 2008:

Here he is (on the right) from 2008:

Yep that is absolutely who he is. I used to watch the Disney Afternoon! He was from Tail Spin. My DH and I went for my graduation from college in 91 and they were doing a whole Disney afternoon theme around the park. Gummi Bears and on the driving boats (remember those?) and Rescue Ranger in the car ride.

I loved the Motor Boats. That was a ride that was really slow moving and there wasn't really any good scenery along the boat path, but I LOVED it and I hated when they took it away. I have a picture of it over in my Trip Report from 1983. I wish they would bring back the Motor Boats, Adventure through Inner Space AND the People Mover, but I guess that will never happen!:sad2: Those were some great rides, and the Motor Boats and People Mover were both relaxing and nice to go on if you had a date with you, for a nice little romantic jaunt around the track/river.;) Good date rides!!

This is a strange looking one of my Dad, my sister and brother and I in New Orleans Square. I'm not quite sure what this is or why we decided to get a picture of us with it! :confused3

I'm glad Sherry E's mystery is solved! I don't think it was off topic at all, we needed to know who that character was! I love these pictures and yes, I checked your's out, Sherry...Bret Michaels, that is so cool. Obviously by my name you must know I am a music fanatic! :cheer2:

Keep the pictures coming everybody! :yay:

I posted two pictures of the boats (if these are the ones you are referring to) on this thread page number 3, I believe it is. My DS loved those boats, for the longest time he really thought he was driving them. :) Oh the magic of Disneyland! You just want to believe! :wizard:

Yes it's J.Worthington Foulfellow from Pinnochio.

I'm loving these pictures!

GASP!! Is that bare skin I see on that arm!!??

Teehee...

This has been so much fun to look at. Being southern born and midwest raised, I never got to visit Disneyland as a child. In fact, I never hit a Disney park at all until 1993!!! I've really enjoyed everybody's photos, being that now Disneyland is my favorite park. ;)

I am trying to figure out what that is that you and your sister, brother and Dad are posing with in NOS too! What is that? Oh well, I am like you, though - if I had seen it, I would have jumped in a picture with it, whatever it was! Any kinds of inanimate objects or statues at DLR I will get in a picture with! Nothing is spared. It doesn't have to be tall and wearing a furry costume for me to get it in a picture, and I don't have to know what it is, either, to pose with it!

Yep, I suspected that you might be a music (rock) fan!;) I like U2 a lot as well! I am actually not even really into Poison's music anymore - that was more of an '80s thing for me - but because Bret had been on one of the DLR trips with me, I included him in the TR pictures throgh the years and then that evolved into posting other Poison pictures.

I don't know why I thought the wolf from 1994 was different from Don Karnage in 2008. In my mind I was thinking their outfits were different, but clearly they are not. And he looks totally different from the Big Bad Wolf, so I don't know what I was thinking there!

Yes, those are the same boats! I think those are the boats that Pink Budgie was referring to as well. That was just one of those great relaxing rides that didn't really do much of anything and wasn't exciting, but was fun to go on at night or with a date.

Yep! Donald is flashing a little of his skin! As many folks have said, the costumes have improved greatly over the years (and decades). Even looking back at the costumes from like 1993 or 1994, they have improved from then to now. But looking back at a 1972 Donald or Chip/Dale, the costumes then were just not good at all!! And when you see pictures from the '60s or what Mickey looked like in 1955 - yikes! But it is so great, though! I love that vintage look.

In my Alice/White Rabbit photo, I think that is the Walrus in there too. He is NEVER out anymore. I don't think I ever saw him more than that one time, but he probably made the rounds in the park here and there.

Okay slightly OT, but speaking of bad costumes.... DS has the Sing Along Disneyland DVD that was made in the early 90s and there is one song with (I think) the bears from Country Bear Jamboree and I can't believe how bad their costumes are! I cringe everytime that song comes on. Not sure how to describe it but there is a very visible flap of fur coming down from the head piece of the costume covering the shoulders and it's not tucked in or even slightly camouflaged. So you can clealy see where there are 2 pieces to the costume. And on one of the bears there is a huge mesh area on his neck for the CM to look out of that looks really bad. Another song shows Eeyore and he also has that funny fur flap going over his shoulders.

Oh and Sherry, those pictures of you with the characters when you were little are really cute. Lucky you to get the pictures with just you and the character. Mine have me, the character and some other random kid in the shot who also wanted to get a picture taken by their parents. I guess people didn't mind sharing their character time in the 80s.

I noticed the same thing on that DVD -- the costumes are so much better now!

Yes, I have seen those 2-piece costume things. They are horrible. In fact, just yesterday I posted a picture in my TR from 1977, I think, with Dale, where you can clearly see his head is a separate piece from his body. It's horrible! I should have posted it on this thread! But I didn't see a mesh area, though I have seen those on other non-Disney costumes! That is hilarious! Mariezp was saying in my TR that my pictures of Eeyore from just 15 or 16 years ago are funny because he looks like a bandit. I can only imagine what a 1970's era-Eeyore looked like!! Fur flap and mesh - too funny!:rotfl: :rotfl:

Thanks, LavenderPeach - I am glad you like the pictures! I think I got lucky with my Mickey and Donald pictures in getting only us in the frame, but if you notice, in the Alice/White Rabbit/Walrus shot, there is a creepy man edging up into the picture, waiting to pounce on the characters as soon as we move out of the way, and in my Dale picture from '77, there are random girls standing by waiting for me to finish up. Also, in the aforementioned Eeyore picture(s) where he looks like a bandit, there are random children IN our shot. If I recall, I think my friend and I are posing with Tigger, and Eeyore is right next to us, but two children jumped in the picture to pose with him. So what was supposed to be a picture of us with Tigger and Eeyore turned into us, Tigger, Eeyore and someone else's kids!! And in ToonTown, forget about it. It is a free for all. Almost no one knows how to wait their turn. It's every man, woman and child for his or herself! I think people have begun to practice a bit more 'character photo etiquette' in the parks these days. Maybe not in ToonTown, but in general. As long as the people in front of you aren't doing a whole 20-picture photo session with said characters, then it shouldn't be a big deal to wait a couple of minutes for your turn while they snap their photos. I know they don't want ME in their pictures anymore than I want the person behind me - or strange children - in my picture. It doesn't take too long to wait if people are reasonable with the number of shots they take, and everyone's pictures will come out better in the long run.

Since we are on vintage characters, here is one of me, I think summer of 1976, but can't remember. I think I'm 6. I'm the one with short hair in the lower right corner. The only time I ever had short hair in my life and I hated it! :rotfl: I also spilled orange juice on my sweater that morning at breakfast, so it was wet and annoying.

Anyway, as you can see everyone just went up to characters and all the parents took pictures at the same time.
