Disney Nomads ... 3 Resorts in 8 Nights! ALL NEW 9/2!

Monkston and I stroll along Main Street, people watching, looking in windows. This leisurely visit to the park is kind of nice, I think to myself. I do feel like we should do something though.

“Hey Monk, why don’t we go visit Mickey and get your picture taken?”

“No thanks Mommy.”

“How about the princesses? We can get a fastpass.”

“No, I just want to walk around and take some pictures.”

Sigh.

I remember not so many years ago, standing in line to meet the princesses. It was during an extra magic hours evening so the crowds had thinned a bit. I think we still had to wait 40 minutes but Monkston was so excited to have her picture taken with them.

This was at the end of a commando day. We had spent all day at Animal Kingdom and were already tired, but we decided to take advantage of the extra hours at the Magic Kingdom. Maybe we would get a second wind. At least one of us had a stroller.

Back then, I handled all of Monkston’s wardrobe decisions so she had suitcase of girly little outfits. That morning she started out the day in a cute little pink skirt and matching skirt. A spill later in the day necessitated changing into some jeans and as nighttime arrived, and it got chilly we added a jean jacket. My little princess was looking a bit tomboyish now.

As we were waiting for Wishes to start Mr. Squid decided to get her a light up something or other. He came back with this enormous Flava Flav sized necklace that Monkston loved.

We finally get to meet the princesses and there’s my scraggly little girl in all her denim, wearing her enormous glowing necklace and posing for pictures. Each of the princesses would greet her with, “Well look what we have here. A pirate princess!”

I could see the confusion on her face and I’m sure I looked confused as well. Why are they calling her a pirate princess?

BelleYellow.jpg

It wasn’t until later that evening that I got a closer look at the necklace and discovered the pirate connection. It had a skull and crossbones in the middle of it.

So no more princesses for Monkston I guess. Maybe next year I can sneak in a reservation at Akershus. Mr. Squid likes all that pickled fish they serve. (Hah! Look what happened. The squid likes fish!)

I hand Monkston the camera and tell her I’ll follow her lead. And she leads us straight to the confectionary.

I love the old fashioned outfits they make everyone wear. I wonder if they hate wearing them. Maybe they’re not that comfortable. At least they’re inside in the air conditioning. Those Citizens of Main Street must get pretty ripe in this Florida heat with all that finery they wear.

Do they look happy?

DSCN1380.jpg

Here’s another random shot.

DSCN1381.jpg

I watch Monkston study all the cases and displays of sweets and wait for the inevitable request. Nope. Still just looking and taking photos.

We head outside and see another parade going by. It’s always much nicer to happen upon a parade rather than wait around for one to start. The sidewalk isn’t too crowded so we’re able to see most of it. I pray that one of the characters will wave their hand our way. Monkston will be disappointed if she doesn’t get a greeting. One of the dancers shakes her hand in our general direction and I tell her she was waving right at her.

After the parade passes by, we spot a couple of Citizens across the street.

DSCN1401.jpg

We walk over and they tell us and several others to get into a circle and sing Row, Row, Row Your Boat. I pretend to sing, but Monkston has a great voice. She inherited Mr. Squid’s musical ear and has perfect pitch.

DSCN1404.jpg

Luckily, the singing doesn’t go on too long and they launch into a campaign to get us to join their cause. They’re Suffragettes and they need our help.

Monkston asks me, “What’s a Suffragette?”

I explain that a long time ago women didn’t have as many rights as men did. One of the things they weren’t allowed to do was vote. The Suffragettes wanted to change that.

“Imagine if your teacher said, ‘Tomorrow you can have a special treat. Vote if you’d like chocolate covered grasshoppers or ice cream. But by law only the boys are allowed to vote.’ And the boys vote for grasshoppers! How would that make you feel? You had no say but there were more girls in the class than boys.”

“Boys are dumb.”

Well ok. Lesson over. Who said Disney wasn’t educational?

We decide to head over to the castle for some more picturesque photos.

DSCN1416.jpg

We happen upon the castle show in progress. I have no idea what this story is about but at the end Mickey and Minnie are dancing together.

DSCN1408.jpg

“What do you want to do now Monko? Are you hungry? Want to get some popcorn or something?”

(Record screeching)

Josh from easywdw.com: I can’t take it. You’ve been in the park for three hours and you’ve done what? Talked to some minor characters, played with the sorcerers, taken pictures and shopped. And the next thing on your list is popcorn? Do you know how much an admission ticket is? Suze Ormond would have a thing or two to say about this. It’s now 3:00. You can forget about getting any fastpasses now. I give up.

Laura74: Oh gosh! 3:00 already? Mr. Squid had wanted to rent a boat today. We’d better head back.

Josh: Sigh.

“What do you say, Monkston? Why don’t we head back to the front of the park and grab something for the walk back?”

We stop at a popcorn cart and Monkston decides to get a frozen lemonade.

After the short walk back to our resort, we change into our suits and head out to the pool. We get some loungers in the back row and Monkston heads for the pool.

Within minutes, I see she’s made a friend.

I remember how easy it was to make vacation friends when I was a kid. You could just walk/swim up to someone and ask if they want to play. Easy as that.

I guess this means that we’ll have to put off the boat rental for another day. We can’t break up a new friendship so quickly.

Back then, I handled all of Monkston’s wardrobe decisions so she had suitcase of girly little outfits.

Luckily I still get to do this. I am seeing the signs of revolt though. Chloe's favorites are her blue monorail and Thomas tee shirts. :confused3

Maybe next year I can sneak in a reservation at Akershus.

I always do Akershus and CRT. As much for me as Chloe. :thumbsup2

“Boys are dumb.”

Well ok. Lesson over. Who said Disney wasn’t educational?

Out of the mouths of babes :rotfl2:

Great update!!!!!

Hi! Just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying your trip report! You're a great writer, and you have a wonderful sense of humor! I don't think we live too far from you. We live near Allentown, PA. We fly out of LVIA because I don't like to drive on the Schuykill! I'm goofing off from work, and will go back to reading more of your trip report now.... I hope you're having a great day! Jennifer

Monkston and I stroll along Main Street,

I still prefer to sashay. But you go right ahead and stroll to your heart's content.

people watching,

I think people watching should be an olympic sport.

This leisurely visit to the park is kind of nice, I think to myself. I do feel like we should do something though.

It's that kind of thinking that's going to ruin the whole ambiance of this chapter!

“No, I just want to walk around and take some pictures.”

Ever notice how kids are much smarther than grown-ups?

At least one of us had a stroller.

Glad to hear you had a stroller. Too bad Monkston had to walk, but at least you were rested.

Back then, I handled all of Monkston’s wardrobe decisions

I remember doing that... and then being relieved that the DDs could dress themselves... and then being alarmed at their choices.

Each of the princesses would greet her with, “Well look what we have here. A pirate princess!”

I could see the confusion on her face and I’m sure I looked confused as well. Why are they calling her a pirate princess?

Did she get frustrated and groan in frustration, "Aaargh."

'Cause that wouldn't help.

It wasn’t until later that evening that I got a closer look at the necklace and discovered the pirate connection. It had a skull and crossbones in the middle of it.

My DD11 would probably wear it then... did I mention I'm sometimes alarmed at the way my DD dresses?

So no more princesses for Monkston I guess. Maybe next year I can sneak in a reservation at Akershus. Mr. Squid likes all that pickled fish they serve. (Hah! Look what happened. The squid likes fish!)

I hand Monkston the camera and tell her I’ll follow her lead. And she leads us straight to the confectionary.

That'd probably be the first place I'd go too. But maybe not just to take pics. :rolleyes1

I love the old fashioned outfits they make everyone wear. I wonder if they hate wearing them. Maybe they’re not that comfortable. At least they’re inside in the air conditioning. Those Citizens of Main Street must get pretty ripe in this Florida heat with all that finery they wear.

I've noticed that the really dressed up ones don't stay out too long in the heat. I suppose it wouldn't do to have them biting the heads off the guests.

But wouldn't that be entertaining!

I watch Monkston study all the cases and displays of sweets and wait for the inevitable request. Nope. Still just looking and taking photos.

That's some pretty impressive restraint. The immutable laws of physics do not allow pkondz to enter the Confectionary and exit without a lighter wallet. I believe that would be conservation of sugar high energy.

Monkston will be disappointed if she doesn’t get a greeting. One of the dancers shakes her hand in our general direction and I tell her she was waving right at her.

And one day she will read this report and know how you deceived her. Rue the day!

Don't look here Monkston! Look away! Look away!!!

Imagine if your daughter said, "But I want chocolate covered grasshoppers." My DD would.

“Boys are dumb.”

Oh. Nevermind. Apparently Monkston is wise beyond her years.

Well ok. Lesson over. Who said Disney wasn’t educational?

Pretty sure it was Nebo.

We stop at a popcorn cart and Monkston decides to get a frozen lemonade.

Next time try a lemonade stand.

I remember how easy it was to make vacation friends when I was a kid. You could just walk/swim up to someone and ask if they want to play. Easy as that.

It's not that hard. The next time I see you lounging around by the pool, I'll walk up and ask, "Do you want to play?"

Then I will go back to my room to nurse the black eye that you will have so kindly gifted me with.

See? Easy.

I guess this means that we’ll have to put off the boat rental for another day. We can’t break up a new friendship so quickly.

No, that just wouldn't do. Thanks for the update! :goodvibes

Does anyone really drive on the Schuykill? The only times I've been on it we've sat and not gone anywhere! :rotfl:

Great update!

A few weeks ago Mr. Squid sent the link to my report to my family and some friends including Sheena and Druid.

My Mom and Dad are visiting us this weekend and my Dad brought up the trip to the Playboy Club. He had a couple interesting notes.

First, one reason we were allowed to go is because the association said kids could stay free. What they didn't know was that four of the five us kids (my oldest brother was in college) would be going. The hotel manager came to our room and saw us all crowded in there like refugees and said this will not do! So he upgraded us to a suite! I wish I could remember it better.

Then he asked me, "What's the worst thing that can happen to a bunny?"

"Weight gain, pregnancy, amputation?"

"Nope. Losing her tail."

Apparently, there were men stealing their bunny tails as a prize to show their buddies. After that, the bunnies were instructed on how to keep their um... tails away from groping hands. I wonder how they could do that while walking through a crowded room with a tray of drinks.

How fun to get the adult perspective on a childhood memory!:cool1:

Well, I guess we can add tail preservation to their list of talents. :rotfl2:

Just finished your update! I am impressed how you were able to stroll along, just taking in the atmosphere, letting Monkston take the lead. As much as I tell myself I won't do it this time, I would be trying to organize how to make the best use of the time and get on some rides. Yes, Josh would be proud of me!:lmao:

All caught up and subbing in! Love your TR so far! On my last trip to WDW with my family in '99 my mom and I had an afternoon of strolling around MK shopping, taking pictures, and meeting some characters while my sister, father and aunt were at BB. It was one of my favorite parts of the trip!

You have better control than I do, I feel Josh's pain, this is stressing me out especially since I just purchased tickets for a family of 6 for 5 days.

I'd have to do SOMETHING ride worth jusitfy the cost of just stepping into a park. I don't know, jump on a cast member's back, catch a ride on a float, grab all the balloons being sold at the park at once, SOMETHING!!!!

:)

I remember how easy it was to make vacation friends when I was a kid. You could just walk/swim up to someone and ask if they want to play. Easy as that.

I STILL just walk up to people and start talking!!:rotfl:

Thanks Jennifer! Welcome!

I guess I'm an hour or two away from you. I'm right outside of Princeton.

I still prefer to sashay. But you go right ahead and stroll to your heart's content.

Please tell me you have video of you doing that in Hawaii.

I remember doing that... and then being relieved that the DDs could dress themselves... and then being alarmed at their choices.

I'm sure I will become increasingly alarmed as she gets older.

She's good about that. We usually have to throw out most of her Halloween candy after it sits for months. I guess she enjoys the thrill of the chase better than eating the prey...or something like that.

And one day she will read this report and know how you deceived her. Rue the day!

Oops.

Imagine if your daughter said, "But I want chocolate covered grasshoppers." My DD would.

Those things are disgusting! Really??

Next time try a lemonade stand.

Or Bob's Pizza.

Great update Laura....I love people watching in Disney. It's almost as fun as rides sometimes (sorry Josh!)

Thanks Jill! There's certainly a lot of people to watch.

Just thought that I would bump you up to the first page. :goodvibes

Awww. Aren't you sweet! Thanks!

I do the same thing.

I'm glad that you had a stroller. Did Monkston get tired of pushing you? (I know Ponz got it first, I couldn't resist though).

I've done the commando thing too, where you get there at rope drop, park hop and see how much you can do in a day. It's fun too but a different kind of day.

All caught up and subbing in! Love your TR so far! On my last trip to WDW with my family in '99 my mom and I had an afternoon of strolling around MK shopping, taking pictures, and meeting some characters while my sister, father and aunt were at BB. It was one of my favorite parts of the trip!

I know! I'm usually that way. I guess I wasn't as stressed because we have annual passes so I know I'll be back. Monkston and I decided before we left that we wanted to see some things that we barrel right past on our way to fastpass machines.

I STILL just walk up to people and start talking!!:rotfl:

My Dad does that too and I wish I could be more like him. Yesterday at my daughter's concert, he'd strike up conservations with people and find that one was a former student. Another two were teachers from his school. He's like the mayor wherever he goes.

Yes, because a political spin master might get ahold of it and put it completely out of context.

I've done the commando thing too, where you get there at rope drop, park hop and see how much you can do in a day. It's fun too but a different kind of day.

Geez, it's bad enough that you Josh almost got you to the park in your Jammies, now you are doing it without undergarments?!?

Those things are disgusting! Really

My Dad does that too and I wish I could be more like him.

Your dad too? This is turning into a conspiracy; What would Pecans think...

Please tell me you have video of you doing that in Hawaii.

No, thank God he doesn't!

I just had an image of one of those proper suffragettes doing that.

Not helping Laura....!!!!

Yes, well, next thing you know you'll have everyone doing it!

There's certainly a lot of people to watch.

Now I'll never be able to feel the same about the crowds at Disney!

Yes, I find it's usually the non-ride stuff that I remember best.

as I get older I wish I were more outgoing.

I'm pretty sure you're outgoing enough!!!;)

(With apologies - it started with the Commando line; someone had caught Nebo on that a long time ago. It just kind of took off from there...)

Yes, because a political spin master might get ahold of it and put it completely out of context.

Yeah, that NEVER happens around here.
