For a service that skews older and domestic only (US), mobile app downloads will not represent the vast majority of downloads. International is where everyone watches these products on their phones, not in the US.

To be the #1 video on demand release at the same time as also having the movie released in theaters had to be a relief for WB. The fact the movie also made $16.7M in those theaters (almost double any other movie's true 3 day weekend open in the pandemic while only having 39% of domestic theaters open) would make them even happier - and thus, the fast tracking of Wonder Woman 3.

If anything, Disney might be a little upset Soul was not the #1 video on demand release for the year...and from the article, possibly not #2, either...although, that's probably b/c of the competition from Wonder Woman...if it had its own opening weekend, it probably would have grabbed the #2 slot...

Fast tracking WW3 would be a mistake in my mind. I loved WW1. I watched WW84 on streaming but based on what I saw I would NOT pay theater prices for WW3.

It's a done deal...although it may or may not be the same release strategy, so you might not have to pay:)...

They might be better going smaller budget and plan for it to be PVOD from the start.

Warner just can't figure out how to handle DC movies. Wonder Woman was the best one they did IMO and then followed it up with... this. Pascal was the best thing about the movie.

Its been in the works for a while. They didn’t just wake up on Christmas morning and agree to make WW3. They just wanted to announce it after the film released. I’m not sure what their definition is of fast tracking the movie itself is though. Directors work on a movie for anywhere between 12-18 months. Some longer, but big budget films usually they’re closer to 18 than 12. Suicide Squad for example will be more than 2 years from initial work and the day it releases. Avatar has been in production since before Walt Disney was born. Rouge Squadron is set to release in December 2023, which means they’re probably going to ramp up pre production in the Summer of 2021 and start filming in late 2021, early 2022. So unless Wonder Woman has already started pre production, I don’t see the 3rd coming out anytime before 2024. Unless of course she made a deal with Disney that allows her to work simultaneously on both films, but I see that as unlikely.

While I disliked WW84 a lot, I’d still pay to see WW3 in theaters. I have a lot of faith in Jenkins to fix the mistakes she made in this one and improve for a 3rd film.

They announced the other day that this, and every DC film after Suicide Squad will be theatrical only. That can absolutely change from now to then. So as of right now, it’s not meant for streaming, or PVOD. And there’s a good chance that before Jenkins signed that deal she was issued a promise that the movie would be put in theaters only given her lack of enthusiasm when it was formally announced WW84 would go to streaming day and date.

I think Warner has figured out the DC, imo. They took a huge step back this year with Birds of Prey and WW84, but Aquaman was entertaining. Shazam was fantastic. Man of Steel is one of my favorite comic book movies of all time. Wonder Woman is very good. Their big missteps outside of this year was that stretch of BVS, Suicide Squad, and Justice League. Are they perfect? No. But many would argue that the MCU has its “stinkers” as well. They also have Joker, an Oscar Nominated film. The Harley Quinn animated show is incredible. A highly touted director heading The Batman. I think they’ve done very well, even in the DCEU era

Says the person who spends 10s of hours a week on a message board, makes podcasts and spends $1000's of dollars... on "stuff".

right, but my job, which I greatly, has nothing to do with that. I also love craft beer and have a separate twitter account just for that. I play guitar and sing in choir. .... not to mention my family that I put more focus and brain power into than anything else most days

Guess, more that I don't have that one all encompassing passion that I put everything behind

Ah ha! This is a pretty good point why Soul can fall flat for a lot of people. Pixar basically picked a guy with no family except a mother who has put him down for his passion and a deceased father which everything sprung from (and maybe no real friends?), no career just a talent for Jazz and a dream. He was a simplified person which a single passion and blinders to everything else. Most (not saying all) people have some combination of family, friends, fulfilling career, hobbies and passions/talents or a multitude of other smaller interests.

Like you, we're all complicated creatures!

My point was light hearted, but Disney is a very large portion of our lives. We both have big families who are the center of our universes but Disney is entwined in that. So maybe we don't have a singular passion that we can get in the zone for but Disney World is something that we both have intense passions for. After faith and family, your love for Disney defines you.

HOWEVER!

I'm willing to bet that at some point when you've engaged in Disney planning/booking, park touring, fast pass getting, family herding etc. you've gotten in to the zone. :P I'm pretty sure I was in 2019 heh.

Put me in the camp that stopped watching. Not bad but I kept waiting for it to get better. I was good until
They put him in the cat. It's just too stupid. I get what they are doing but it just isn't working for me.

I tried to avoid the spoilers here that weren't hidden but couldn't with them all. I get why he wouldn't go back to teaching, it was his fallback job. I was a band geek and could get where he was coming from.

Now if the cat part is short lived I'll go back, but not worth it knowing how it ends as much as I tried scrolling past stuff. Yet Manti gets spoilers for days, bit wrong to not do it for all.

So, we watched Soul...and I think I'm the only person on the planet who had problems with the 3rd act that were unrelated to the messaging - that part, I loved!

I gave it a B - the kids gave it B+s.

I thought it struggled with some of the same issues as Wonder Woman 2, but to a lesser extent. It was both too long and too short...it needed time in the 3rd act to really resolve "the climax" better (b/c the resolution was an abrupt, darkish mess), but it needed to speed up the 1st 2 acts to find it. I thought it was very funny for a lot of the movie, so maybe the humor was in my alley. I thought the very, very ending was the ultimate cop out.

But a good movie that's a little better than WW2...my spouse didn't agree, and my kids said they were equal...so there you have it from here...

I feel like folks here might appreciate this:

Earlier this week, I watched the 1997 Friends episode with Jon Favreau (the one with the ultimate fighting champion)

While he was failing to become an ultimate fighter, and in a full body cast after a bad loss, Jon said “ The day will come when children will argue over who will win a fight...me or Superman”

While he ended the quote with a “not that I would win, kids are stupid”. In real life, I think Jon would now be more popular than Superman at Comic Con.
