If that happens I wouldn’t be shocked to see another premium try. That would be leaving a lot of money on the table if they did Black Widow for “free.”

I'd be more than happy to pay for it. Plus the faster Black Widow comes out the sooner I get Falcon and Winter Soldier and I've been dying for that since it was announced.

Any MCU fan would pay for Black Widow, and even people that just don’t want to be spoiled regardless of their level of fandom of the franchise. Mulan you pretty much get the gist. There are certainly differences in the story, but it’s still the same overarching plot.

I wonder if that’s why Wandavision was made to come out on January 15th as opposed to giving it the big event of a New Year’s Day release. I can’t imagine IF those rumors are true that the Investors day call will reveal that announcement that it would be a release months in the future. If you can release it as it was intended, as the start of Phase 4, then why wouldn’t you? The 2 week gap between NYD and the 15th would give people enough time to watch Black Widow prior to WandaVision (not that I think there’s going to be any connective tissue between the 2 story’s). And then with Black Widow out of the way they could then release Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Jan - Black Widow
WandaVision
Feb - WandaVision (cont)
March - Falcon and the Winter Soldier
April - Falcon and the Winter Soldier (cont)
May - Loki
June - Loki (cont)
July - Shang Chi (hopefully in theaters)
August - What If?
September - What if? (cont)
October - Mandalorian
Nov - Mandalorian (cont)
Eternals (hopefully in theaters)
Dec - Mandalorian (possibly cont)
Spider-Man (Sony; hopefully in theaters)

That’s an entire year of MCU/Star Wars content non stop. That’s not counting their other Disney+ original content or theatrical releases like Raya and Jungle Cruise. Or if Cassian Andor, the Bad Batch, or the rumored-to-be-shooting-imminently Boba Fett series. And also Hawkeye and Ms. Marvel that could be late 2021 additions.

But this is what I mean that Disney has enough to have a stable balance between theatrical and DTC. Black Widow I won’t be too happy about being on Disney+, but I can accept it. Raya, Jungle Cruise, Cruella, Shang Chi, and Eternals on the other hand will bother me a lot more if we’re looking at straight to home releases for those.

I think I heard or read that 80% of Netflix’s views are for their library titles while 20% is for their original content. If that’s even close to the case for Disney+ then I think they’re making the wrong decision pivoting to entirely DTC

Isn't Black Widow more of backstory? Not really super excited for this - I mean I am sure it will be good and I will see it at some point but not as excited as it seems others are

If this was like the next Avengers movie or something I would make more of an effort but I can't see paying extra for Black Widow

Yeah I feel the same way. It’s the first MCU movie that I’m not 100% psyched for. But it’s still MCU so I would still pay for it on a streaming service lol.

eh, kind of. It takes place between Civil War and Infinity War

Im surprised to see so much Black Widow merch at the parks already, there's action figures, a dress, jacket, t- shirts. A big investment imo, i wasn't expecting that

They had a lot of it ready for the original release date. There were toys from the movie in stores back in the Spring. They were really going to hype it up.

I think they see this as potential to really appeal to girls/women (young and older) and with the holidays coming for toys and just for wearing merch in the parks and around, I am not too surprised

Be interesting to see how well it sells as I know some people are really into her but not sure how broad the appeal is

I wasn't super excited about it when they announced the movie, but the trailer won me over big time. I've been really looking forward to it, plus it has one of my fave bad guys, Taskmaster!

Yup just bought one of the limited release pins. The lady at the counter made a comment as well about how much there's been.

I'm not interested in Black Widow because honestly, we know how it ends for her! I never like "prequels" when I know the main character's fate and it's not a happy one...

You know though, the beautiful thing about comics is that we never really know for sure. Between Infinity Gauntlets and time travel, etc. things are always up in the air. They could always pull a stinger that shows us that Nat is back. I wouldn't mind.

Yes, it takes place in a timeline where it’ll be primarily back story, but they didn’t spend 150-200M for a film without connective tissue for the future. While Disney thinks money first, Kevin Feige is all about story integrity and he’s not going to make a movie set 3-4 years in the past (8-9 in the Endgame timeline) just to pander and give Scarlett Johansson a farewell. Falcon and the Winter Soldier for example could have absolutely been finished in time to release before WandaVision as it was planned to be, but I along with a lot of people believe Black Widow and FatWS are going to connect.

Yup. Is the movie going to set up Yelena as the next Black Widow? Or maybe some other important character is introduced, but there's no way this is a stand alone prequel.

Agreed. BW will definitely set up future storylines.
