Disney News, Discussion & an Element of Fun - 2023 Edition

I'm seriously doubting Disney will feel any significant impact. Yes, there will be a rush for some people to experience the new park. But in the end they will be back at Disney.
I think parks like AK and maybe Epcot will be hit the hardest with Epic Universe opening. Many Americans only have so much time for vacation so they'll have to split their Disney/Universal stays accordingly. I bet many will choose to skip AK to add on Epic Universe.

I've been doing research on Epcot recently and realised that the first time Epcot's transformation was mentioned was at the Destination D event in 2016!

It feels so long as construction began in 2017 for the first phase (Green Mission at Mission: Space, Guardians, Space 220, Skyliner & Remy's Ratatouille Adventure)! Phase 2 became the entrance transformation (removal of Leave of Legacy monoliths), Regal Eagle, and the new films for Canada, France and The Land. We're in the final phase which is the centre with Connections, Creations, Moana and CommuniCore Hall etc. :D

It's been so long that I often forget that some of the stuff in recent years has been part of the overall Epcot Transformation :D

It's been FOREVER! I dream of the day the last of the walls finally come down at EPCOT. It used to be my favorite park at one point, but it's just been a mess of construction walls for the last 6 years or so.

This would appear likely but I would imagine that it would only be short term. I expect we will have an announcement before epic opening of a new land at AK and that will help draw the crowds back.

I am of the opinion that while Disney could see some attendance drops, universal will also see some drops as well. While we have no idea about any promos or pricing, I think some families will drop UO/IOA altogether and do EU for 2 days.

That would be best case scenario but with how slow Disney is at building anything that isn't a new DVC tower.....

But Disney doesn’t want to build a brand new land at AK (like, say, Australia or South America), they want to retheme one, because they are having money problems.

I think it’s only been four years.

Dinoland needs a refresh or retheme undoubtedly but AK has SO much expansion space available. I wish they would use some of that so AK can get out of its 25 year reputation as a half day park.

It's the lack of enough rides to fill a day. Because if one actually goes through the trails and explore, it's more than a half day park. But for repeat visitors walking the trails and going to Rafiki's Planet Watch is not a big draw.

For me, it's also not having a nighttime show. Same reason Universal's parks are half day parks for me. No big draw to stay around after you've done the good rides.

Yeah for me AK is a half day park even with the rides and the animal trails. I never do Rafiki's Planet Watch and kind of forget it's even there. I do hang out at Nomad Lounge though since it's awesome. I have an AP so I feel less guilty for only spending an afternoon there but if I was buying a full day ticket I probably wouldn't get one for AK unless I had a park hopper. I kind of see the two Universal parks as one big park and can easily spend a day at both.

It does feel like forever and I can’t wait until it’s all done.
I so miss the fountain and music but I’m just looking forward to it being done and not have to walk around all the walls. Looking forward to the new space!
