Disney News, Discussion & an Element of Fun - 2023 Edition

Yeah, but in some cases, they are barely different takes at all. Other than visually, the stories are exactly the same. They sometimes add a little backstory, though that can be both good and bad. Personally, I prefer the ones that really deviate and do give us somethign different. Also, it's one thing to revisit an older movie that is maybe fine, but not truly great, and another to remake a stone cold masterpeice like Beauty and the Beast (and to a lesser extent The Little Mermaid). It's like remaking Citizen Kane or Casablanca!

Might as well do a live action Toy Story or Wreck-it Ralph....

I get redoing the classic films 20's - 50's, as even the kids aren't too keen on watching those now. Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella were clearly made in a different age. And maybe the animated films of the 60's and 90's could do with a retelling in a higher quality?? But Tangled, Frozen, Zootopia, Moana, Encanto or any of the Pixar movies... just don't see the point.

Make a Moana 2 using live action... something original.

If they want to revisit classics, I wish they'd take the approach of doing more spinoff stories with (e.g. Malificent) rather than remaking every movie, esp the newer ones.
Or the live action Cinderella. But these literal remakes of the exact same movie are ridiculous. A lot of these stories have such great source material that they could work with to give us something new but they’re just lazy.

And they already have a series of books telling "the other side of the story" for many of the favorite villains they could work with!

Disney in the board room meeting coming up with the idea to remake Moana, a movie not even 10 years old yet:

And, again, audiences have rewarded this approach. They continue to make them because they are successful! Some of use here may grouse about it, but at the end of the day, audiences are eating them up.

Yup, I agree even though that hurts my soul lol. Lion King 2019 was one of the worst movies Disney has put out recently and it's currently the highest grossing animated film ever made.

I do think that if Elemental and Wish bomb at the box office, we're getting a Toy Story 5, 6, 7 and 8 and Frozen 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Yup! And I don't mind sequels as much since they can have original stories and serve as extensions. Still, it can become a bit much too.

My kids are very excited about Elemental, not as much wish as we haven’t seen as much advertising yet.

They haven't released much about Wish yet. I still hold that it's one catchy song away from being a huge hit.

Elemental is looking good though, but it didn't get a great reception at Cannes. We'll have to see.

Yeah Spiderverse 2 is already getting amazing reviews and that's a sequel. I would rather have a sequel or a reimagining of a pre existing property (example: Greta Gerwig's interpretation of Barbie. And yes, I will be seeing that LOL) than a shot for shot remake that Disney has been making.

I'm not feeling Spider-Verse nor Barbie, but at least they're original.

I love those books so much.
I agree too, the reimaginings are so much better than the remakes. Maleficent and Cruella were so fun. Cinderella mixed and matched the classic story with Disney and it was beautiful. Little Mermaid did something similar to a lesser extent.

Give me a reimagining of the Evil Queen! Or Hades! There is so much possibilities if they actually want to do live actions with the same characters.

(And no more modern jokes pls, I cringe so hard when they make social media references )

I saw a preview of Barbie before TLM, and I had no clue it even existed before then; I will DEFINITELY be seeing it, it looks hilarious!

Is there something going on August 20-26? That would normally be a slower time of year. I don't understand why it doesn't qualify for the discount.
I know this an old thread but I saw this when I was booking my 2024 Resort Reservation today for the week of Aug 18-Aug 24 2024. I priced out vacations for different weeks after seeing that this week was excluded from discounts in the past. I am booking at the WL Deluxe Room Club Level Access. For the weeks of 8/4/24-8/10/24 and 8/11-8/17 the room rates were $1,001 Sun-Thurs and $1,006 Fri&Sat. For the week of 8/18-8/24 the room rate was $890 Sun-Thurs and $979 Fri & Sat. For 8/25-8/31 the room rate was $890 Sun-Thurs and $1,042 Fri, Sat, Sun (Labor Day). Maybe it has something to do with the room rate for that week? We are already getting a discounted rate? Its probably too late for you to check what the rates were for those weeks as they are all probably booked for 2023, but maybe this is why? I also checked a Resort View Room - 2 Queens and the room rates per night were the same, they were the cheapest that same week that was excluded from the discount in 2023.
