Disney News, Discussion & an Element of Fun - 2023 Edition

I agree too, the reimaginings are so much better than the remakes. Maleficent and Cruella were so fun. Cinderella mixed and matched the classic story with Disney and it was beautiful. Little Mermaid did something similar to a lesser extent.

Give me a reimagining of the Evil Queen! Or Hades! There is so much possibilities if they actually want to do live actions with the same characters.

(And no more modern jokes pls, I cringe so hard when they make social media references )
Totally agree, original stories within a franchise like Cruella at least show creativity and can be fun to watch. I didn't care too much about Maleficent but still better than having remade Sleeping Beauty...

I think of the remakes Cinderella and Little Mermaid have been the better ones. We actually quite enjoyed Little Mermaid, but I'm drawing the line with Moana 🤣
It made over 1.6 billion dollars in the box office despite that movie quite literally being a shot for shot remake. That movie is a perfect example of what people mean when they say they don't want anymore lazy live action remakes (even though that movie is not live action).
OMG, the "live action" Lion King is so so bad. And it's not even a good shot for shot remake because they cut Scar's song, Be Prepared! Sacrilege! It really boggles my mind that it's the highest grossing animated movie of all time...

Yes, but will the drop feature Dr. Facilier / "Friends on the Other Side"? That's all I want to know
Obviously I don't know what is going to happen, but it will likely not based on everything that's come out. The attraction is set after film and will feature new music. Hopefully we'll be pleasantly surprised but i'm not getting my hopes up

It's sad to feel this way about the new Tiana ride but that's how I feel. What they've shown so far is not making me really excited. No Dr. Facilier is such a mistake.
Nobody knows what is going to be on the new ride except the actual builders... articles reporting on it are often incomplete or parts of the stories. To be fair many rides sound dull when described. It is a different thing to be actually on it and experiencing it in real time.
So many folks are psyching themselves up to dislike something that is not even built. At least wait until you actually take a spin.

Oh I don't hate the ride. That's silly to hate it when it's not even finished yet. I'm just going in with low expectations. They seem to be implying that Dr. Facilier is being omitted but if he's there that's a pleasant surprise.

While it's true that we don't yet know what the final product will be like, they sure haven't shown much that is impressive so far. If they're not ready to reveal that stuff yet, that's fine, but I might advise that they just say nothing until they have something that will really wow the audience.

Yes, I'm totally willing to wait and see. People want Dr. Facillier because he's awesome! He's a cool and striking villain - and THAT VOICE! Imagine Keith David's robust and booming voice as you climb the lift hill. Maybe they're trying to keep it a secret, but if they want a real PR win they should show him in the studio recording some lines for the ride now.

i think some folks will never be happy, no matter what the finished Tiana ride is like. they are not going to release every single detail all at once, and I am sure there will be surprises (details left out on purpose) up to the day of opening.

That would be so cool!!! Based on the concept art that has been shown, it looks like Mama Odie will be at the final drop which is fine but not as cool.

Yeah that is 100% true. Some people will hate it only because Splash is gone.

Maybe we will be surprised but I'm not keeping my hopes up. Mainly cause outside of Rise I haven't been blown away by. I also worry that it's going to be another cheap overlay similar to Frozen was.

Mama Odie is cool. She has a great voice too, but she's one of the good guys, you know? A ride like this needs a little punch, and I'm afraid that's what it will lack. It's definitely too early to tell though.

Folks, if the ride takes place after the end of the film, there is very little chance that we'll be seeing the Good Doctor. After all, his Friends from the Other Side are unlikely to relinquish his soul for any reason at this point. You know, fool me once, fool me twice, that sort of thing.

That doesn't mean the ride is doomed. Give them a chance to make something interesting. It won't necessarily be the thing we would make or are expecting, but that doesn't mean it has to be bad.

Oh, but that doesn't matter. It's a ride - it doesn't have to keep a strict continuity. That said, it doesn't have to be Facilier, BUT it still needs something to give it a little bit of harrowing adventure, and a great villain is a way to do that. He's the perfect choice really.

I'll give them a chance to make something interesting, it's just that so far every update they have provided have been decidedly uninteresting. I think it's fair to be apprehensive.

Was there a villain in the original Splash? I personally hate rides that make you wet... outside of a waterpark that is.... so I had not ridden Splash enough times to recall for certain
