Disney News, Discussion & an Element of Fun - 2023 Edition

Then in October the celebration actually starts and will center at EPCOT. Will it be more than just the new nighttime spectacular they're developing there?

I also wonder if any Disney100 stuff will be going on in 2024 as I'll be at WDW briefly for Destination D23 in September but not again until Feb 2024.

Yup - Universal has them for as long as they want them. Considering that they probably don't want to re-do that land with two pretty popular rides, I don't expect it to change much. Personally, I kinda like it - it reminds me of when Marvel Comics was actually GOOD!
Spider Man is my favorite ride at Islands after Hagrid's.

Everyone keeps bringing up this 40 year old example. And, it might not be wrong. Within three months, the original formula came back and started flying off the shelves--to the point where some speculated that it was all a big marketing ploy to begin with.

Will the same thing happen with "Epcot Spectacular '24"? Maybe.

Yes, some changes are bad. But in the Disneyana community, you can find someone that will bemoan any change as the Worst Thing Ever. Throw that into the Outrage Machine that is the Internet and pretty soon there is broad consensus. One of my favorites was "napkingate," when instead of Disney World and Disneyland napkins at the two resorts, they both used the same "Disney Parks" napkins. People were furious.

I mean, it's a theme park for crying out loud. Who cares?
I may be wrong, but I was pretty sure that "New Coke" came out so that "Old Coke" could have the recipe changed to use beet sugar instead of cane sugar because it costs less. It tastes close enough to the original that after being subjected to New Coke, people didn't really notice. It would have been noticeable otherwise. I think this is why "Mexican Coke" tastes better than regular coke because, as far as I know, it's still made with cane sugar.

I think the real reason was becasue Coke had lost massive amounts of market share to Pepsi, so they gave the masses a Pepsi-like product, which proved jsut how much people loved Coke. It was marketing genius. They also made the switch to HFCS at the same time, so it was a double-bonus.

Interestingly, Pepsi just unveiled a new logo:

Ever see this old meme:

Coca-Cola is an institution. I do like Pepsi's new logo though - their last one was so ugly. I can't believe it lasted for 14 years!

I do not like this and I have not met it yet. I wish the animation department could have just let a great story be a great story. Maybe his new date will be chased by birds. (Yes, Ellie wants him to be happy, but symbolically the birds would be hilarious commentary). Up is a beautiful love story on a few levels and this just feels so contrived for getting people in theater seats.

I really don't see how this is contrived. I see it a story that isn't often told but that is very real. I say kudus to the studio for trying something new in a sequel.

I guess I feel that way because of what Up means to a lot of people. I’m not saying that folks should never be able to find someone new and avoid being alone etc, I just don’t find this to be the right story to stem that subject from.

Ok, I get that. I think it's hard to think of Carl not in love with Ellie. I would just say that the original Up story will still be there and stand on it's own regardless. One can always watch that beautiful movie again.

ETA: Carl will always love Ellie. But a heart can have room for more love.
