Ian Strengthens Into a Hurricane, Forecast Now Tracking Closer to Disney World

Overnight, Tropical Storm Ian strengthened into Hurricane Ian with maximum sustained winds of 75mph in this morning’s update. Significantly, the cone of uncertainty has now shifted back to the east and closer to the Walt Disney World area. Hurricane watches are now in effect for the Tampa area. Officials continue to urge Floridians to prepare for the effects of what they say will be a large storm that will likely affect the entire state.

Here’s the latest forecast from the National Hurricane Center.

We cancelled our trip for this week on Thursday last week. We could have waited and just modified the room only reservation (rather than cancel), but we wanted to let our pet sitter know as soon as we could rather than waiting until last minute. They are short-staffed but always cover us because we are long-time clients, and we did not want to do last minute cancellation with them. We will just have to apply the value of our MNSSHP tickets to a future event. If Disney cancels the party, will they automatically issue refunds? Also, we had 3-day park tickets for this trip, and the value will stay on account, but if the parks are impacted, will they refund? I'm not sure how all of that that works.
Safe travels to those who are still going this week and to those already there. I hope things go as well as possible.

We had to cancel our short getaway for 9/27 MNSSHP and 9/28 DVC's MM. Where we live in Florida and our travel path to WDW is in the cone. Waited as long as we could, called yesterday, and Disney applied our MNSSHP tickets towards MVMCP for our Dec trip.

BREAKING: Hollywood Boulevard Closed Off After Portion of Store Facade Collapses at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

This morning, something caused a good sized chunk of wall around a doorway to collapse at Keystone Clothiers, a popular store on Hollywood Boulevard near the entrance of Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Entry to the park was a bit backed up even 30 minutes after park open, we suspect due to this incident. A large portion of Hollywood Boulevard is closed off, meaning guests have to walk around this area to proceed to other parts of the park.

Disney World Asks Guests If They Prefer Virtual Queue System or Standby Lines

If you have visited EPCOT since Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind opened, you may have received a survey asking you how you’d prefer to experience the attraction. As a reminder, Cosmic Rewind is currently operating with a Virtual Queue system in place. This means that guests can onlyexperience Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind by signing up for a free spot in a Virtual Queue via the My Disney Experience app – guests can not join a standby line. The Virtual Queue system was widely used starting with Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance in December 2019, and then expanded to other popular attractions like Cosmic Rewind and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. The idea behind a Virtual Queue is that Disney will be able to save you a spot in line and then call you back to an attraction when it is your time to ride with a minimal wait time. Now, Disney is asking guests if they like that system or if they’d rather wait in line. Let’s take a look at a survey we recently received.
Questions about the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Virtual Queue started by asking how you tried to interact with the Virtual Queue system.

We're supposed to fly into Orlando Friday evening and then board the Wish on Monday. I'm not worried about the cruise but debating whether we should move our flight to Saturday morning...

ETA: We decided to move our flight to Saturday morning "out of an abundance of caution."

Disney World Removes Hotel Availability Ahead of Hurricane Ian

Disney World has removed hotel availability from its website today for arrivals through Thursday, September 29th ahead of anticipated impacts from Hurricane Ian. Availability returns for arrivals on Friday, September 30th as of publish time. This is the first public action we’ve seen from Disney World in a likely response to the storm. No closures or operational modifications have been announced, but we expect Disney World will make a statement in the coming days as the storm continues to track towards the Tampa area.

We were also going to the 9/27 party. We already bought our MVMCP tickets, but I am glad you were able to do that. I hope you don't have a bad impact from the storm. Please stay safe and take care.

UPDATE: Entire Wall Section Removed, Black Curtains Erected As Crews Work on Repairing Collapsed Facade at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Earlier today, something caused a good-sized chunk of wall around a doorway to collapse at Keystone Clothiers, a popular store on Hollywood Boulevard near the entrance of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Now, Buena Vista Construction Co. crews are actively working to repair the broken building.

This side portion of the Keystone Clothiers facade (which replicates the historic Max Factor building in Los Angeles) crumbled right off of its support structure and onto the ground. An entire light fixture from the side of the entrance came down with it. Now they have removed the entire section of facade.

A large portion of Hollywood Boulevard was closed off earlier, but now guests can at least walk down the street.

Walt Disney World Under Tropical Storm Watch

As Hurricane Ian continues towards Florida, the Walt Disney World area is now under a Tropical Storm watch. The watch is for East Central Florida and includes Walt Disney World property. A Tropical Storm Watch means that Tropical Storm force winds are possible somewhere within this area within the next 48 hours.

Disney World has not made any operational adjustment announcements, but we expect that they will do so either today or tomorrow.

Thank you 🙏
Once Ian passes Cuba, should be able to narrow down the cone.
