disney net pal - need recent reviews

I need some advice for Disney net pals. TRU has them for 279.00. It seems like a good price. The reviews are kind of mixed. Have they done anything to make it better in the last year? Is this a good price? Could I get a better deal on something else? (it's for my 7 year old)
I also noticed the box has a spot for the manufacturer to check either SSD or HDD for the drive. One is 16 GB and one is 160 GB. I don't understand. At the store they said one is faster, and one holds more memory... so I have to choose??

So I am looking again at the boxes... the pink "girl" one is 160GB HDD
and the blue "boy" one is 16 GB SSD... HELP! - what is the difference and why?

Can't help you on reviews, but SSD is a solid state drive (read: no moving parts) where as HDD is a hard disk drive (moving parts). The HDD is going to be cheaper, but the SSD is going to be more reliable. SSDs are like thumb (USB) sticks. All things being equal, I'd pick an SSD over the HDD. HOWEVER, things aren't equal. The SSD is only 16GB vs. the 160GB HDD. I'm not sure how a 16GB drive would even operate (the operating system usually takes more than that).
