Now that we know AP certificates need to be activated within one year of the purchase date, if they are activated on the last allowable date, they will be valid for park admission for two years after the purchase date. However, unless Disney posts the blackout dates for two years, you do not know the blackout dates for the entire time period you can use the pass. For example if I purchase a pass today and plan on activating it September 1 2022, I have no idea today what the blackout dates will be for the last 10 months of my passes' valid dates, (Nov 2022 through August 2023). Without that information, how can I know which type of pass to purchase.

Wouldn't do any good, apparently blackout dates can change, look what they did with the unactivated gold passes.

It would do good if they went out 24 months. You would know the blackout dates for all dates you could potentially use your pass, the last usable day being two years from the date of purchase if you activate it exactly one year from the date of purchase.
By not going out 24 months we have the issue you raise, namely blackout dates can change between the time you purchase your pass and the last day you can use it.

Wait. What did they do with the unactivated Gold passes??? I have two.

When you activate, they will be the Sorcerer pass and follow the block out dates for that.

They will include Photopass though for free, even though it’s not included any longer, for those who purchased gold pass vouchers.

If you have Thanksgiving Week reservations this year, unless your Gold Pass was activated by Sept 7, it will not include your entire 2021 Thanksgiving Week timeframe, even if you have the park days reserved. I called 4 times and sent two emails, as I had just bought the Gold Pass under Guest Recovery when the parks reopened specifically to cover this trip. I got several different stories from "Oh, it'll be fine" to "It will NOT work, even though you are already booked and reserved" I finally got a hold of someone in ticketing that accessed my MDE account and solved my issue. It took several days and several hours on the phone.

Thanks for the information. We have decided to save our Gold passes until things are way more back to normal, so probably several years down the road. No telling what the block out dates will be then!

If you look at the fine print on the contract and the terms and conditions on the website, it says all AP blackout dates are subject to change without notice.

So were they able to activate a Gold pass for you? This happened to my sister. She renewed her Gold AP in July specifically for our Thanksgiving week trip. She emailed, but was told that it will become a Sorcerer Pass when she activates it in November. She didn't even want a certificate. She would've been fine if they just renewed it in July (which is how mine was renewed over the phone... not sure why it was different, maybe because I was upgrading an unused ticket).

No, they did not activate it. I prefer not to say what they did, as it may vary as to what they may do depending upon when the voucher was purchased, new or renewal, and so forth. I will say that they did NOT Upgrade it to an unlimited pass, and it will be activated as a Sorcerer's pass. I purchased mine after the parks reopened through AP Guest Recovery, NOT Member Services as it was not a renewal but a full $765 new pass voucher, and I had my park entry days already reserved in MDE. Also I was the only person in my traveling party of 11 people having an issue, as everyone else is either using Military Tickets or date specific base tickets.

No worries, I'll just tell her to call and see what they can do! She also has her park passes reserved and is part of a party of 10 that all has other types of tickets (regular tickets, or in my case an activated Gold AP), so fingers crossed!

And keep calling. I called several times and got bounced from CM to CM.

Glad they did something... @Jennifer Harris didn’t get anywhere and had to get a refund for her Gold pass thanksgiving issues.

If park reservations are made for thanksgiving week (let’s say 3 days), what they should’ve did is add 3 days of PH tickets to your account. They aren’t out anything. Activate as Sorcerer and those three days are pulled from the “free tix.”

@dismedvc Disney won’t publish for two years. Disney will say, “OK, that $899 of value isn’t lost and will be applied to this years $949 Sorcerer pass. You owe us $50.” And they’ll think they’re doing us a favor.

But it's always been consistent in regards to what holidays are blacked out so you can look at a calendar and figure it out yourself? At least guessing what days will be blacked out and plan around that.

It has been until they added Thanksgiving dates to the new Sorcerer pass, with only 3 months notice that a gold pass bought would not work.

Yes, it says subject to change but people are being given a different pass and product so I’d say they should help in some way as they did for @chucks.

Now, for Thanksgiving 2022? That’s fair game because people have not even booked that with DVC so they know the pass won’t work especially since calendar is not out.

I guess the big benefit is that Easter week is no long blocked so those that travel then at least can use the Sorcerer and not pay for a higher pass and more points for rooms.

Well yes, but you can guess that going forward those days will be blocked out in future years. My point is in the past the blackout days were consistent with the specific pass, so you can always assume when the blackout days are in the future.

And based on how they rolled this out , I would not assume that they won’t change things on people if they need to.
