At National Harbor right now.....my sister won a week at the new Wyndham National Harbor.....and invited my DH and I to join her. Signs up all over the place welcoming Disney to National Harbor. The artist rendering of the proposed Disney resort looks fantastic. Our balcony at the Wyndham overlooks the empty lot which will become the Disney resort........by the looks of the acreage it will be the second largest resort in the area....the Gaylord being first. I really think the area has a lot of potential.....still in the infancy stages.....Wyndham just opened in February......there is also a Westin, Mariott Residence Inn, ALoft and quite a few restaurants have opened also. Very close driving distance or water taxi to Old Town Alexandria....drove over Saturday night and took about 10 minutes, however, on the way back we got in an express lane (not marked very well) couldn't get off at National Harbor and had to drive an extra 5 miles or so before we could get off and turn around. Downtown D.C. is about 10 miles by car....we did drive and parked at Union Station.....however, it was on Sunday and traffic was minimal. There currently is a combination of bus and metro if someone wants to use public transportation.....can't comment on it since we didn't use it.....however, I did hear it takes an hour or more....transferring from bus to the metro and then transferring again on the metro. I really think once the area builds up a bit more they will need to do something to improve on that......by car with minimal traffic it took us about 20 minutes. DH and I have decided we would like to come back again.....hopefully, using our DVC points at a Disney DVC resort....would be a perfect long weekend for us.....about 3.5 hours from NE PA.....lots to do in the area. Are you listening, Disney? This location is great for a large number of people in the mid-Atlantic area......very easy driving distance for long weekend trips. Wyndham National Harbor seems to be very busy.....lots of people checking in the past few days....pools (both indoor and outdoor) have been busy with temps in the mid 90's.....I think a lot of people had plans to tour D.C. and decided not to because of the heat....so are just hanging around the resort. All in all, an area with great potential.......
