Disney National Harbor

Thanks vicki c.......I've done that.......let's see if it worked...
Hopefully it worked......there are four pictures....one welcoming Disney to National Harbor, second one is the artist rendering of the Disney buildings (the roof of building in lower right looks like it may be convention space to me and lower left looks like it may be a garage...parking is at a premium at National Harbor...right now Gaylord has their own garage plus lots and the other resorts share several garages.......the other two pictures were taken from our balcony the existing building shows the back end of the Gaylord and their garage/parking lot and the empty lot appears to be where the Disney resort will be on the artist rendering. It doesn't appear as if it worked.......let me try again later. Sorry folks......

I have seen this image before in the Washington Post. I think it was part of the original rendering created by the developer a few years ago before the site was sold to Disney. The final Disney resort may not look like it is depicted here.

It's interesting though to see what the developer originally envisioned for that site. Thanks for posting!

Just my 2 cents:

I don't think there's enough demand to sell 50 rooms worth of points. And it takes too much effort to have the support in place for a smaller number of rooms.

I do see this as part of the Disney collection - and let's cross our fingers here - maybe even without the obnoxious $95 fee.

That was my thought! That it could be added to the Disney Collection without the $95 fee and with a reasonable point chart like at DLR or DLP. Really, although I could see a lot of DVC members wanting to visit, I don't see a lot of them wanting to call it "Home"

I want to book a room there (on points hopefully) for one night a year to see the 4th of July fireworks! (Don't get any ideas, folks - that room is mine! All mine!)

And thanks for the renderings - I just clicked on it and saw it bigger on your PB page.

We are about 30 to 40 min. from D.C. I would love to stay there. :thumbsup2

Wow Edk35, I was thinking the exact opposite. The last place I want to visit is DC since we live so close!!! yuck! But I understand completely people wanting to come to see the historic part of DC. The rest is ugly and dangerous. If Disney does this, they need transportation to and from Dulles, Regan and Baltimore airports. Driving through DC is a nightmare and wouldn't be a good start to any vaction.

I agree DVC members will want to visit, but I can't imagine someone wanting it to be their home!

I guess all those people living there as their full time home, hate it, :confused3

Oh Sammie I am sure lots of people love DC. We just know the horrors of living and working around the District. The tourist district is beautiful so it will be nice to visit. It's just, what will you do there more than once? IMHO it's not a place you want to visit and visit!

Oh NO I would not want it to be MY HOME but I would stay there a couple of nights. To be honest.....we rarely go to D.C. ......haven't been in YEARS. We are closer to to Baltimore but we keep saying how we need to go to D.C. Plus isn't the land that Disney bought next to the Gaylord? If so...isn't that in a pretty area?? I have no idea. I have no problems with it. However I don't see people jumping up and down to buy into that as their home. Maybe it won't be DVC and we can transfer into it without the 95 buck fee. I guess time will tell.....

As a history teacher I would totally go back multiple times and drag my kids and since we are not close, I would love to have a DVC there. I'm guessing living close by, your kids take field trips? Between the Smithsonians, National Archives, the monuments etc you could spend weeks there easily and not see it all. I lived in Quantico for a year and have been back 2x and still have a long lists of things I want to see and do.

I guess this is yet another example of what people frequently say, DVC has lots of different flavors (i.e. resorts) for different types of people. There are plenty of folks who say they won't ever go to r HI due to travel time or the island AHV is on, but I'm sure it's going to sell just fine.

I love living here. And I plan on staying there even though I live only 30 minutes away. Not everyone feels the way you do, obviously.

If we had more time in our lives, we would probably go downtown 2x a month on the weekends.

It would not hurt to build there. Just another option to choose from but nothing that would excite me.

I don't hate it here and actually love being between two major cities. I am not sure why others hate it so much. There is soooooooooo much to see and do in this area. Sure my husband doesn't like his longggggggggg commutes to work too.....but not enough to hate D.C. or hate living in this area.

Well, after reading through everyone else's posts and having just spent several days at National Harbor here are my thoughts on revisiting the area.....our group was 3 adults (my sister, DH and myself) and 2 kids (my niece, age 14...turning 15 on 4th of July, and my grandson, age 8). Our trip happened during the hottest week of the summer so far.......D.C. temps were 96, 98 and 96, and 87 the days we were there.....the three days of mid 90 temps the heat index was about 105......great if you're planning to spend the day lounging at the pool......cooling off whenever necessary......but......not great if you're trudging around downtown D.C. with thousands of others. That said.......I think if the weather were cooler we would have enjoyed the museums much more.....even with air conditioning....the places were still very warm and very crowded. Public transportation from the National Harbor also leaves a lot to be desired.....it's only about 10 miles, but, you must take a metro bus from the Harbor to a metro station ......Branch Avenue station.......which from my understanding is not in a great area of town.....no flames, please.....I don't know this for fact......just what I heard. Once at the Branch Avenue station you need to get the green line into downtown D.C. and then transfer twice I believe to get to the Smithsonian station......according to the online metro calculator it would take approximately an hour or more to do the above. We opted to drive ourselves to Union Station, park there and use the metro from there.....still needed to transfer from the red line to orange/blue but much shorter connect time...it took us about 20 minutes to drive to Union Station with the help of our Garmin. However, I would say Disney will need to do something about transportation if they build there since right now if you are not willing to drive into the city it's not real convenient to get there. As for National Harbor......it really is still in the infancy stages, but, IMO does have great potential. I know we will go back if Disney builds and we are able to use points.......maybe not to visit D.C......but, Old Town Alexandria is right across the river and Mt. Vernon is only a few miles downriver......there are lots of things to do on a weekend visit.....and it's easy driving distance at 3.5 hours for us. I'm not so sure we would visit during the hot summer months though.
We also checked out the condo models which are being sold in the development.....very nice...small....but, nice......also very pricey.....over $400,000 for a 2 bdrm Potomac River view. Nice, but, not so nice when you take into consideration there is not even a grocery store or pharmacy in the development as of yet. CVS is coming very soon, but, I didn't see any signage for a coming grocery store. We used Peapod grocery delivery service to order groceries and had them delivered to the Wyndham....worked very well for us.
So, IMO, I do think a lot of DVC'ers would visit a DVC resort at National Harbor, but, I'm not so sure a lot would want to buy there either.

My DH and I lived in the DC area for 20 years. Both of our sons were born there. I would love a DVC in the area so we could go back and visit friends and "see the sights" with a comfortable place to stay. I'm Disney spoiled, stayed in DC for a week visit and the hotel was nice on Dupont Circle, but I kept thinking that it just wasn't Disney. I would consider buying in at National Harbor, if that is a future option.
