At National Harbor right now.....my sister won a week at the new Wyndham National Harbor.....and invited my DH and I to join her. Signs up all over the place welcoming Disney to National Harbor. The artist rendering of the proposed Disney resort looks fantastic. Our balcony at the Wyndham overlooks the empty lot which will become the Disney resort........by the looks of the acreage it will be the second largest resort in the area....the Gaylord being first. I really think the area has a lot of potential.....still in the infancy stages.....Wyndham just opened in February......there is also a Westin, Mariott Residence Inn, ALoft and quite a few restaurants have opened also. Very close driving distance or water taxi to Old Town Alexandria....drove over Saturday night and took about 10 minutes, however, on the way back we got in an express lane (not marked very well) couldn't get off at National Harbor and had to drive an extra 5 miles or so before we could get off and turn around. Downtown D.C. is about 10 miles by car....we did drive and parked at Union Station.....however, it was on Sunday and traffic was minimal. There currently is a combination of bus and metro if someone wants to use public transportation.....can't comment on it since we didn't use it.....however, I did hear it takes an hour or more....transferring from bus to the metro and then transferring again on the metro. I really think once the area builds up a bit more they will need to do something to improve on that......by car with minimal traffic it took us about 20 minutes. DH and I have decided we would like to come back again.....hopefully, using our DVC points at a Disney DVC resort....would be a perfect long weekend for us.....about 3.5 hours from NE PA.....lots to do in the area. Are you listening, Disney? This location is great for a large number of people in the mid-Atlantic area......very easy driving distance for long weekend trips. Wyndham National Harbor seems to be very busy.....lots of people checking in the past few days....pools (both indoor and outdoor) have been busy with temps in the mid 90's.....I think a lot of people had plans to tour D.C. and decided not to because of the heat....so are just hanging around the resort. All in all, an area with great potential.......

Where is the Disney property relative to the Gaylord? We've only been down there once, for the Gaylord ICE thing last Christmas but I agree I think it has a lot of potential.

I too am looking forward to this becoming a DVC property. I won't buy there, but like HH and VB, it will be a nice option to visit.

You have GOT TO take a picture of the artist rendering of the Disney resort and post it here!!!! I don't think anyone has seen it or mention it anywhere else before!!! :surfweb:

I'm hoping for DVC too! Being that we live 1/2 hour from National Harbor (though have not been there yet) DW and I can use it to get rid of any extra points.

Thanks for posting DonnaL & Ssawka :goodvibes

Looking forward to this addition to DVC, we drive to/from NY to WDW and will probably include Washington DC as regular overnight stop as we do now with HHI :thumbsup2

I am very interested in this, too!! I would LOVE to have Disney closer to home....:cloud9: Somewhere I could escape to that didn't involve plane tickets or a 13 hour drive! ANy chance you could post a pic of one of those drawings you saw, PLEASE??? :goodvibes :thumbsup2:yay:

It would be a very nice option. Something I know my husband and I would very much enjoy! Thanks for the info.

Hey everyone......sorry I didn't post yesterday.....we went to D.C. again.....braved it in 95 degree heat......traffic wasn't bad at all on a weekday driving in to Union Station as long as you wait until after morning rush hour to drive in.....parking there is great .....lots of space..not expensive by D.C. standards......we were parked there for about 8 hours and I believe it was $17.
You can get anywhere on the metro from Union Station which makes it a good starting point. DH took some pictures of the artist rendering of the Disney resort........will post them when we get home either later today or tomorrow.
We're planning to leave sometime this afternoon. The map posted above is a good representation of the layout of National Harbor, but, the rendering shows more detail and it looks as if Disney may have a convention center planned. In the rendering there is a very large building in the right corner of the Disney property that looks very much like a convention center building. There is a smaller building in the left corner that would appear to be a parking garage. As for the question where is the Disney property in relation to the Gaylord.....Disney will sit facing St. George Blvd about two blocks west (? I think it's west) of the Gaylord......the property will be about a three block walk to the waterfront. Will post pictures later........

We are really hoping that DVC completes this resort! I am a major history buff and can't wait to take the kids to DC to experience our Nation's capitol for themselves (my son was there when he was 2, but all he remembers is seeing a squirel that chased his stroller in front of the Smithsonian).

Thanks for the post DonnaL. We just drove past National Harbor on our way back from HHI and I was wondering what was happening with the proposed Disney resort. It was a Saturday night and we could see fireworks over by the Gaylord National.

Interesting and I see people would like to go there using pts.......but anyone want to buy there and have that your home resort????

I really hope they have a DVC option to this! I'd LOVE to do that!

Hi all......I feel silly, but, it appears I'm not able to attach the pictures I have of the Disney National Harbor site and artist rendering. My posting rules at the bottom of my reply page state I may post threads, reply to threads, edit threads, but, may not post attachments. I have no idea why......can anyone tell me if I am able to change that so I can post these pictures for everyone to see? I thought maybe I need to edit something, but, I'm not seeing anywhere to do that. Anyone have an answer? Thanks.

I don't think anyone here posts attachments. You have to upload your images to a free hosting site, like Photobucket. Then those sites provide an http:// link that you post here so your photos show up.
