I'm curious if anyone actually does this. You know those little forms that you get from Disney but they're in your junk mail pile? It's the Disney movie club pamphlet, and I usually throw them away, except I actually read through one last night, and now I'm considering doing it. It's where you can choose from a huge list of Disney movies, be it animated classics or new movies like Pirates of the Caribbean. You can choose up to 4 movies for only $1.99 each (or if you use your credit card, it's like a dollar for all four), etc . . . If you've heard about this program - positive or negative - I'd like to know about it before I decide to do this.

We have been members of the movie club for a couple of years. The program is pretty good, and on average the movies are not too expensive, as long as you include the "cheap" movies that you got in the initial order. We usually wait until they run a "60% off" sale to stock up on the older films that we are interested in. The selection is a good mixture of classic Disney films and also ones released by the other "related" studios (Buena Vista etc.). The monhtly mailing has seperate pamphlets for each category of movie.

The only pain for us is to remember to reply to the monthly mailing. I think that I end up receiving at least a couple of monthly specials a year and have to return them. You have 30 days to return a movie after you receive it and they have never given me any problems with the returns. Some of them we keep, but usually we place "bulk" orders when the sales are good.

One way to get a few extra movies when you sign up is to find someone that is already a member and sign up through them. I can't remember if the new member gets anything extra, but the referring member can select a movie of two for free. If there isn't anything that they are interested in, you could always use the form and receive their movies too. I don't have the exact details with me, but it is a little better than just signing up alone.

I think that you can browse the site without being a member, so you can see what their current selection looks like. After you buy the initial "quota" they make you eligible for specials. One of the cool ones that we have not done is to purchase limited edition Disney Movie Club pins. I think that there is a different pin each month. www.disneymovieclub.com should get you to the site.

Thanks,

Jason

Also, if you do join, you can register online so you can decline or accept your monthly selection online (save a stamp :) ).

Do you happen to use Outlook (the regular Outlook...not Outlook Express...) for email? If so, you can set a "Task" and a notice will pop up for when you set the reminder. I set a task once a month to login to my clubs to make sure I accept/decline on time.

As the pp stated, you do get some good deals overall by waiting for sales and counting in the "free" ones you get.

LOL, why on earth did "they" move this to Disney Rewards Programs? Weird.

I joined DMC and we like it. We have taken over a year and we still haven't bought our last required DVD, and that has been a mistake. Get the money together, order all the DVDs in as quick a time as possible so that you FEEL that it's a bargain. It is a bargain, with the initial movies being so cheap, but especially if you belong to Costco etc, it hurts to think about paying over 20 bucks plus shipping for movies you can snag at Costco for 15. And that gets easier to do (talk yourself out of finishing the obligation quickly) as time goes on, b/c you forget about all that you got for so cheap.

You may also want to look at signing up through a rewards program. I signed up through Sunshine Rewards and got $10.00 cash back from SR for signing up. If you are going to sign up anyways, it could be a good way to get a little extra out of it.
