Disney Mom Panel..not impressed

I'm not digging a hole, just commenting on things. Nor am I trying to offend anyone. Disney is a brand, a BIG $$$ brand. Obviously there are stereotypes surrounding the Disney patron etc. The Mom panel is an extension of the Disney Park brand and I think it's interesting to see who they pick. If appearance meant nothing they wouldn't ask for a video. Sorry if I offended anyone.
I'm not jealous at all.

Yeah, they are supposed to represent Disney too. Physically, not the most attractive either. I mean one mom looked like she hadn't washed her hair in weeks. I know it's just answering question on a website but still. Not a lot of variety of moms IMHO. I can't identify with that.

That's really an awful thing to say. I'm pretty sure some of those ladies post here.:sad2:

Guess if they were picked, Disney felt they met the standard.

They probably wanted videos so they could see more of the applicants' personalities, which aren't always easy to get a feel for in things like applications and essays. Clearly, since Disney selected these people, they felt they would represent the brand well.

I'm curious - what do you feel are the stereotypes surrounding the Disney patron?

FOR THE RECORD THIS IS NOT HOW I FEEL OBVIOUSLY!

I think many have heard the stereotypes of Disney people being overweight, scooter drivers who hoard Disney memorabilia and only travel to Disney where they expect to be treated like royalty at all times from the beginning to the end.

Who cares what she looks like? Do you have a touch of the green eyed monster, so you want to attack their appearance? :confused3

Yeah, OP...I don't know you or your situation. But the first thing I thought was that this sounds like a bad case of "sour grapes"...

Otherwise, I can't imagine saying the mean things you said. I watched the video as well, and I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the stories, and I thought that the group was a really well-rounded group of people from different cultures and different walks of life.

While I don't agree with the OP's opinion that anyone on the panel looked dirty - they seemed well groomed to me - I also don't understand how some PP's think jealousy is a factor here?

So do you think the current batch of moms panel members respresent that stereotype? Or do you think they shouldn't have been chosen because they don't fit that stereotype, and so must not be a good representation of Disney's customers? I personally can't say I've ever heard that description of Disney patrons before. It's not the mental image I have of the stereotypical Disney patron. It isn't what springs to mind when I see the moms panel members, either, but I'm assuming they made you think of it. Regardless, why does it matter? If Disney chose them, then they must fit Disney's image of their typical patrons pretty well, whatever that image may be.

Really? On a Disney Mom Panel? Or is that not what's it called. I'm confused. :confused3

It is called the Moms Panel, but they have had one (and sometimes more) dads on the panel each year. Instead of going for a gender-neutral name and theme, they decided at the outset that it would be a Moms Panel, but they allowed that not all "moms" actually be female parents.

I think I personally was leaning towards the hope that it was jealousy or "sour grapes" that were causing the nasty comments...because I couldn't imagine being so petty and mean otherwise...:confused3

Thanks for the explanation.

I think that's dumb. Have dads, aunts, neighbors etc, whoever you want on the panel but then don't call it a Moms Panel.

I haven't really been impressed with the advice on the mom's panel either. I've gone looking for some answers there before and seen inaccurate info.

I also wish they would diversify a little. It would be nice if they had a person with some sort of disability on there to answer questions pertaining to navigating the parks with challenges. You can't answer questions about using an ECV at WDW if you haven't done it. It's a whole new ballgame (been there, done that, got the t-shirt). Perhaps a single person or 2 to answer questions about adult only trips would be nice as well. Not everyone that travels there does so with a family in tow.

I just watched the clip and I thought they all looked fine. :confused3 Nobody looked dirty to me- and they all spoke like "real" people. I didn't notice anything unusual. However, they should have picked me (obviously!) ;)

My thoughts *exactly*.

There always seems to be one or two panelists that give out simply bad information. As in, information one can find on the actual Disney website. However, I will say, Disney DOES post that this information is not verified by Disney and is the opinion of the people posting.

From the Mom's Panel in the "About this forum" section:

The views expressed in the Walt Disney World® Moms Panel are those of the panelists, who are independent contractors, and may not be factually accurate. These views are not intended to reflect the opinions of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Online, its affiliates, its management, its agents or its employees. Panelists have received/will receive a trip to the Walt Disney World® Resort for their participation on the Panel.

I actually feel this is not smart on Disney's part. I would think as a company you would not want to promote or support a group of people who are giving factually incorrect information. By allowing them to possibly give incorrect information, they could potentially end up with upset consumers who were told one thing only to find out it is something else (yes, I know that is covered in what I quoted, but you know that legal is different then what the consumer sees).

I completely agree with you. It's not smart on Disney's part. Look how heated people get here when a CM tells them something and it's wrong. Can you imagine if people acting as "experts" for Disney tells them something and it's wrong? I think they need to have a fact checker or have more intensive training for the mom's panel. In my opinion, possibly even having interns/CP participants that have done guest relations or worked in the parks multiple times would be the best choice. The CP participants could do this from college on their spare time and they have Disney experience. Not to mention they have 1,000's of alumni that are looking for a potential in later at Disney that would bend over BACKWARDS to do this.
