Disney Merchandise Disappointment

So on the last day of our trip, my GF bought a pair of sweat pants from Mouse Gears, to change into to be more comfortable on the airplane.

So we get to MCO, she finds the bathroom, and comes out holding them. Apparently the cast member never took off the security theft deterrent tag thing.

So she emails Disney tells them of the situation, along with a picture of the sweatpants, and a picture of her receipt and all Disney offers is for us to mail it back to them along with the receipt and if they still have it in stock they'll mail her out one without the security tag on it.

Kind of disappointing to be honest. We pretty much figured they would just ship out a pair of the pants from the get go. I've ordered numerous things from the Disney Store and if they arrived damaged all I had to do was send a picture and they would ship me out a replacement ASAP, and not even ask for the original damaged order to be sent back.

Really???!!?? That is just not right! I've had things arrive damaged or after getting home realize it's broken, and they sent replacements right away. Who did you speak to? Seems trivial, since you should be able to just cut it off (or is it an ink tag that may damage it?).... but they should have just simply sent a new pair!

If you tamper with it, the ink capsule inside bursts thus damaging the garment.

Just find a very strong magnet. That is how the, as we call it in retail, NO GO tag is removed. Just hold the rounded portion that the pin fits into against the magnet and it should release.

I'd send another email from a different email address and see if you get a different resolution.

Since the pants are really useless at this point with that thingy on them, I could see them wanting them back so they can re-sell them. They should just send out a new pair with a prepaid label so you can return them with no cost to you though.

Sorry that happened!!

I'm surprised it didn't buzz on the way out. A lot of good it did. I would see if you could find a local store to take it off. It's not damaged so I can understand that they want it back.

Being in retail... don't want to give out any secrets ... ;) but they are so much easier to remove than you'd think!
But try either a Disney Store near you, or any store that has sensors.

We bought several caps on one trip. One still had the anti theft device on it. Called, gave them the receipt number, mailed them the cap we had and got a replacement. Not understanding the disappointment, a mistake was made, and they offered a solution.

I would've gone to the Disney Store at the airport to see if they could have removed it. I realize it's too late now though.

This type of thing has happened to me so much at stores that I now check to see what clothes have them while I'm in line and watch the checkout person to make sure they are removed.

Try going to JCPenneys or Macy's (or something like that). Generally, their security deterrent devices are the same as Disney...

I thought of that but my guess is they were on the other side of security.

I agree that it was strange that no alarms went off. Maybe the anti-theft device is similar to having an ADT sticker in your window at home, but not actually having the ADT service.

The issue is that we provided them with the receipt, pictures of the issue, and their only offer was to mail it back. They didn't even offer prepaid postage. They didn't offer to go to a local Disney store.

Before if I had something arrived semi-damaged they didn't even care about the original, and they'll send out a replacement right away.

At the very least they would have said we're going to mail you a replacement, inside the parcel will be a return mailing slip, send the one with the tags back to us.

But, that is because they cannot resell the damaged item. They can resell the pants and you cannot use them as is.

I've taken something from a different store (that was a long way from home) to my nearest supermarket (with the receipt) and their customer service people have taken tags off for me when they've been left on by mistake.

I always end up with at least one tag left on at WDW. Thankfully, I always realize while still on property, so I can have it removed before leaving property.

Years ago I used to work at a Hot Topic store. We would have people come in all the time with WDW merch that still had security tags on it, asking if we could remove it. Although there was a Disney store in our mall, they didn't actually use the same type of tags as WDW, so they couldn't remove them. But they knew we did & referred them to us. I'm sure that if you take the pants & receipt to your local mall you won't have a problem finding a store that can remove it for you.

Disneystores will probably NOT be able to help. Across the stores, some have no sensors (thus no removal system), other have one of several different security tag systems (some long rectangles, some round, some short fatter rectangles, etc). We can't even remove one from another store, much less the parks. (but we are happy to do so, if we CAN). Some guests find luck in spotting another mall store with the same sized security tag buttons. Other retailers are usually fine to assist you, which is very nice of them.

Guess I don't see it is such a big deal. They made a mistake. You can either take them up on their offer of how to fix it, or you can try to find a store in your area that can help you. I'm sure you could easily find one. It is a bit of a pain, but not worth fretting over I don't think.

I have to say your comment that you figured they would just send you a new pair from the get go sounds a bit like you just wanted another pair of pants and didn't plan on returning the first. Hopefully I'm reading that wrong.
