Disney Magical Express

We will be staying at POFQ in March...we are wondering what your exeriences with Disney's Magical Express were like? Should we use it because it is FREE or should we rent a car to take us to the resort? Thanks!

We used disney ME for my first trip ever and it was amazing. You check and and board right at the airport and they bring you right over to the resort. Then the day you leave it picks up you and your luggage and brings you back. It is big and comfortable and a great way to start and finish your disney experience. We are going again in Oct and I will be booking Disney's ME again!!

We used it on our last trip and it was great. The kids loved it, it kind of gets you in the disney mood. My then 16 month old had a hard time understanding when we got home why he could not ride around on mommy's lap anymore!

Here's what I wrote about ME on my trip report after our last trip, July 2006:

Magical Express- We only used ME incoming, but it worked perfectly. The only negative I will say is I believe the signage is poor as you come down to the ME area. We stood around wondering what line to get in. Probably just us. Other than that, it was great. We waited in line for our bus only a few short minutes, and were at BCV less than an hour after touch-down. We were able to snag the front seat on the ME bus, so we dashed out as soon as we arrived at BCV. Soon after we were checking in, the line got long behind us. 9.5 out of 10.

We will definitely use ME again.

Another vote for ME! It is fantastic. You won't be disappointed. Just remember, your luggage may not show up at your resort until a few hours after you do. While ME explains this in their info, some people seem to get annoyed when the luggage is not in their room upon arrival.

We used ME twice this year...first time was great. Second time our luggage didn't show up til the next day! So it was a good thing we had a small carry on with essentials in it (diapers, toiletries, pajamas etc.) Still, we'd do ME again on our next trip...just be prepared if your bags go AWOL for a while!

We used ME for our trip in Sept and it was wonderful! DH went down to National at MCO to pick up the car and I took the kids on ME. We arrived within minutes of each other at the resort. There was almost no wait at the ME counter and about a 3 minute wait for a bus once we got in line. The busses were very clean and comfy. My kids loved the movie and it's a great way to transition from traveling to vacationing! Just plan ahead for your luggage. It took about 5 hours for our luggage to show up and while I had packed bathing suits and sunscreen, I hadn't packed clothes for dinner. The luggage showed up just as we were leaving in our traveling clothes. After a quick change we made our ADR for Chef Mickey just in time! We'll definitely use them again!

I am just wondering why it takes so long for the luggage to show up for some people. When we used ME we put our luggage on the bus with the driver and watched him take it off when we got to the resort.

If you use the ME claim tags Disney sends they'll transport your luggage for you. You don't have to wait at baggage claim for your bags and bring them to the bus, they'll get them for you and they "magically" appear in your room a few hours later. They have much more information about this over on the transportation board if you are interested.

You obviously picked up your own luggage at the carousel. The people who experience waits for their luggage use the yellow tags provided by ME, so they don't have to go to the luggage carousel. It means no carrying bags at the airport, but you do have to wait for your luggage. It's a trade-off.

We have used DME twice so far. It is WONDERFUL! The first time, we stayed at POP. The line at the airport to get on the POP bus was really long, but we got on the bus right away...probably had to wait 5 minutes. The second time we stayed at the CR. We were the only ones going to CR (the lines for the values were very long). So, we had to wait about 15 minutes for more people to show up. We ended up leaving with only 2 other families and all 3 of our families were staying at different resorts. So, if the lines look long, don't let that worry you. That long line for the value resorts ended up leaving before us, anyway!

I wouldn't bother renting a car, unless you have a family with lots of little ones. It's hard to use the Disney buses to the parks with many little children in the family and a couple of strollers. It would just be easier to drive yourself to the parks. But if your children are older (or you have no children), then don't even bother getting a rental car.

Going back to the airport is a breeze with the DME, too. We flew SW so we had to bring our massive amounts of luggage with us on the DME and it was so simple. They have people at the airport where the DME drops you off to help you with your luggage if need help.

Seriously, if I find using the DME easy, then it MUST be easy.
