Disney Magic on Lock Down

Things like this do happen and is one of the reasons that we carry something to wear to dinner in our carry on luggage. My guess is that dinner tonight will be extremely casual aboard the ship since I doubt that the luggage even started to be loaded until the area was cleared.

When you have family on the ship, you really appreciate the attention DCL pays to safety. Better safe than sorry.

YenSid1222 mentioned 7 or 8 as a time to leave. That sounds reasonable considering that there was at least a 3 hour delay in getting everything loaded. It's not just the passengers, it's the stores (food, supplies, merchandise) and luggage as well.

.
True. We weren't able to get luggage finished in the terminal until about 5:45(started around 3:15). No telling how long it will take to get them delivered as a good bit of the crew were stuck out in the lot with the guests.

Yes the ship is finally moving now! Dinner was very casual because as I was told...quote "duh were're not changing for dinner...we are hungry, we haven't eaten lunch so no we are not going to bother to change for dinner"...(as said by my 16 year old DS...I don't think they even went to their room first...I believe because meal times were all messed up that they pushed everyone with 1st seating dinner straight to their meals with whatever they had (but i'm not positive...that just the impression I was given when talking to them)...

On our Sept. 29th 2005 3 day wonder cruise we had a bomb scare.... In our case it was an unattended bag, that held up everything. I am thankful they err'd on the side of caution, but it made for a long day, sitting just yards from the ship

So close yet so far away.... we arrived at the port at 10 am, and were finally able to board around 300-330.

It just went past Two Palms Web Cam at 7:12 PM. So it is running about 2 hours late.... but at least it left safe and sound!!

Didn't someone post the other day that they dreamed there was a bomb on the ship? I can't remember who, but at the time I thought "naaaah." Hmmmm, maybe a little bit of psychic ability!

Better safe than sorry is correct. I am sure that DCL is not the only one making the decisions when there is a bomb scare in the port.

Unfortunately, in an emergency, I don't think DCL can do more than give guests a safe area and a bottle of water.

I am glad to hear that they took people to the nearest terminal.

Thanks everyone for the updates involving the Magic, Crew & passengers!:thumbsup2 Glad to hear everyone and the ship is OK! I'm hoping to be on it in June for the Med Cruise!

Yes, I too remember reading the thread where somebody mentioned dreaming about a bomb on the ship. That's weird! However, suspicious packages are not uncommon. Good thing most of them are just suspicous packages.

i believe it was last week that a bomb threat was called in at Carnival. It was all over the news here in Orlando. Ppl standing out in the parking lot being interviewed. the all clear was finally given and pulled way late. i was watching the DCL leave and could see the Carnival just sitting there.

I realize how frustrating it must be for the passengers and the crew, but i would rather the cruise lines, airlines etc... take the threats seriously as they do, and do what is needed to assure all is safe.

Glad they finally got their vacations started and hope the rest is uneventful.

I was thinking that when I read the name of the thread, glad everything and everyone is ok though

I'm just glad to know that they scrutinize all the packages/luggage that closely...

Lighten up folks: these are NOT "bomb scares", they are SECURITY ALERTS. If there was ANY danger of a bomb onboard, then 3500 passengers and crew would not be allowed to sit in the car park alongside.

We, too, had a security alert last year when we were due to board. Guests were constantly whinging about missing their lunch! Unbelievable! Was it a bomb? Nope...........was apparantly a rotting food item in a piece of luggage! What a waste of money and man-power - not to mention time.

If people read the small print, then these alerts would pretty much be avoided.

Well done Security guys: Maybe all cruise lines should inflict a heafty fine for people whose luggage is found to contain forbidden items.......and give the cash to a childrens charity!

I really do not think that yesterday was a "security alert." A package with a "potential" device was found by a routine search and a dog. It turned out to be a "wireless" router that was in the mail to a castmember on the ship.

It was not rotted food in a suitcase or even have anything to do with a paying customer. (I am curious how rotted food turns out to be a security alert???

In this day and not knowing who may or may not want to do something... I hope that nobody will "lighten up" and they will report even the most stupidest thing that they see.

Yesterday... if it was reported correctly they moved everyone out of the terminal and over to the Carnveral Terminal and shut down all the access roads around the ship... sounds like they also were a bit more concerned than normal.

I'm glad that they take these precautions...even if it does drive everyone actually there nuts...and it wasn't anyone in particulars fault for having the dogs react to the package that was mailed to the cast member...my mom told me that she had asked at the airport about what some of the chemicals and such they swab and test for were and she found out it was actually stuff she worked with semi-often in the hospital she works at...until then she never realized that she worked with something which would trigger anything like this...she could easily transfer the residue to her purse or wallet (or anything else she touched for that matter) without even realizing it and it would trigger the alarms...so my guess is most false alarms are pure accidents when people have no idea that something they did or handled would cause a problem...(the bad food was probably also accidental because why would you purposely put anything that was spoiled purposely in your bag???)...I'm just glad that Disney puts the safety of the passengers first and took care of the problem...

We have the ''threats or breach of security'' at lease 2 to 3 times a month.
They are an inconvience to everyone that is at the port and a very costly procedure must be followed so that everyone's safety is taken care of. DCL has the highest security check point as to what goes on, what happens on getting on the grounds for delivery etc. I commend them in the respect that we just may never know when it could be for real. Believe me, you can not even imagine what goes on behind the scenes to keep you and yours safe and I know the fusteration for been there and done that many many times especially since 9/11, but again it is for your own good and I know each of you understand even with all the fusteration.
Always
Shirley

I understand that they are taking every precaution for the safety of the guests, but HOW LONG does it take to open ONE package?? I'm sure it takes awhile to gather the bomb squad, but geez.

When we got off the plane a few weeks ago coming from Atlanta, there was a backpack left under a seat towards the front of the plane. I mentioned it on the way out, and the flight attendant said, "yea, someone already told us about it." I don't recall hearing if they had a bomb squad come check it out or not. Maybe the owner came back to claim it rather quickly. I wonder what they would've done if it stayed unclaimed. Does someone pick it up and take it out to the desk? Interesting now that I'm thinking about it.

If these were not bomb scares they would not waste their time sending out the bomb squad. There is protocol established by the Coast Guard that has to be met before things are cleared. Unfortunately this takes time. I for one am glad they take things as seriously as they do. As for the one post about spoiled food being in the bag during the one evacuation, you have to love the spin the news broadcasters put on things. You never know what kind of residue can end up being rubbed on the luggage without you even noticing. Better safe than sorry
