Hi, I will be going on the Magic 20 Jul 08 and my 11 year old son is hoping to be able to buy a small model of the Disney Magic while we are on the ship. Does anyone know if they sell models and around how much they cost.

Thank you

That would be a great idea, but I don't remember seeing any on our May 3-10th Western. Of course, I wasn't specifically looking for them, either, but I think it would have caught my eye if I'd seen it. When we went on the princess line a few years ago they had several cruise ship models, statues, stuffed toys, infatables, etc. My kid got a few things and still play with them. I remember being somewhat disappointed that there wasn't something similar for the Magic. That seems like an obvious oversight to me. Can you imagine how much fun an inflatable Magic would be? Or a stuffed one? :rotfl:

There were two models on board the Magic in October... a $25 one, and a more expensive (and MUCH nicer) $125 model.

we asked on our April 26th Magic sailing, and were told that they have been having problems with the supplier and there were not any ship models available at the time. From what I understand however, that is something that they have had in the past and will hopefully have again when we sail again next year!

Dagnabit! I didn't get a ship model on my last cruise, and just figured I could pick one up on my next cruise. I hope they are back by August!!

They were on the May 25th Magic cruise to Mexico. It was the one souvenir I was going to definitely get. I think it was $28. Though when I saw it, I decided not to get it. The detail just wasn't there, and it wasn't quite what I was expecting. I got a couple of pins instead.

Yes, they have the model ship on board and a plush one ...
I purchased the $28 model in 2005 and I love it. I have it proudly displayed on my office shelf and everyone comments on how beautiful it is. Even after 3 years, it still looks brand new.
I was just on the Mexican Riviera Cruise on June 1st and saw the same model ship and it is still $28 and a plush ship with 2 or 3 plush characters... I believe the price was around $20. I was going to buy it for my granddaughter, but she chose a Captain Mickey instead.

They had these die cast tiny model toys (that came as a set) and also had the $28.00 ship models made of resin and obviously not a toy. I love my 28.00 ship model and every kid that comes over our house plays with the die cast toys.....they have wheels so they zoom all around with them.

Here is a pic of the diecast toys and below that is a pic of the $28.00 ship model.

Those look great! I'm sorry that I missed them!

I wish they could get the resin ($28) model updated to include the Ariel vision and any other minor changes... Otherwise it looks great!

Ariel vision? Is that the big tv screen is called? :confused3

I thought it was called Dumbo something-or-other... tron or vision, maybe? I was thinking I had heard Dumbo (meaning Jumbo) referenced. :confused3

Love the die cast toys. My DS is sure to find those!

DCL calls it the "ariel view." A lot of DISsers have started calling it the "dumbo-tron." I think the DIS name is better! :rotfl:

Does anyone know if there is anywhere that I could order one of these models from? We are giving the cruise to our kids for christmas as a surprise and I have been trying to find something like a model of the ship to wrap for them to open on christmas morning, but have not been successful. I have tried disney.com with no luck. If anyone does know if I can get these online or something PLEASE PLEASE let me know.
Thanks!!

I looked on ebay and there aren't any for sale...

But have you thought about a Fish Extender?..
You could give them a fish extender and let them wonder "what the heck is up with this thing?", then explain it to them. That would give them even more excitement knowing that NOT ONLY are they going on a Disney cruise, but that they will also be receiving little gifts in the extender!...
:cool1:

I have ordered DCL things from WDW Mail Order~

All you have to do is tell them as much detail about the item as you can remember and they will search their inventory for it and ship it to you. I got our DCL clock (the one that is in the staterooms) that way. :)

I picked this one up in 2005 for about $125. It came with a plexiglas cover and there's a plaque under the bow listing some of the ship's stats, such as size, weight, speed, etc:

I got this one on the WB Panama Canal cruise last month for about $50, I think (DU's onboard credit paid for this one):

It opens up to be a keepsake box:

30 year old dork that I am wishes they made one that floated that I... uh, I mean my nephew,... could play with in the swimming pool. I think a Lego model that you could build would also be pretty cool. I'm sure I'm in the minority on these though.

If you can't find them on the ship, I would try eBay. Every so often I've seen them (both the $28 resin and the smaller toy version) up there.

I actually think on the Magic it's called dumbotron and the Wonder it's the ariel view!
