Disney Magic - Just Boarded!!!

Did they swap out the chairs at Quiet Cove with the new chairs that they have on the Wonder?

If I am not mistaken that was already done. When we were on the Mexican Riviera Cruise they had the greatest loungers outside the Cove Cafe. Or are you talking pool loungers? I've never been on the Wonder so I have no point of comparison.

Yeah...Having just been on the boat last month for 15 days, I can say that the Magic needed to be in dry dock for 2 months (let alone two weeks) to do the necessary upgrades....

DITTO!!!!
I am bummed they did not do more to the rooms. Our bed was in BAD shape for the Repo. They tried putting a board to help the sagging. I kept thinking it looked the way ours did (7100 & 7102) because they were waiting to work on the rooms in dry dock! Guess I was wrong!!!!
:confused3 :confused3

It did look like expected wear and tear. But we were in the Med last year and I was thinking then that the ship was looking a little tired and worn.

Well, this really doesn't surprise me...except for the Goofy pool...since every single time the ship returns from dry dock there are reports of incomplete work and ongoing constuction for a few weeks after the ship returned to PC. The major focus this drydock was the engines...the ones that were causing the ship to vibrate so much that every time we pulled out of port on the EB PC I found myself looking at everyone around me wondering if we were going to make it home...just like everyone else looking back was thinking. I almost started in with "I think I can! I think I can!" at dinner one night when we were leaving one of the ports. The thrusters shook me awake in the morning each time and that hadn't ever happened before. Remember that they totally lost the use of the engines one morning when in the MR this past summer. I would imagine that kind of work takes A LOT of time and money to repair/replace. If the ship now sails along smoothly and quietly...then it is a tremendous improvement and one that I personally will be very greatful to be able to enjoy on our next cruise. I really don't like the feeling of being uncertain about the ability of the engines to get the ship to the next port.

I'm glad to see someone else not notice anything about Beat Street being different than in August...thought I was missing something. The duty free area does look nicer but the counter was very useful when they were distributing the PC pins with three lines.

Regarding the changes at the QC pool...didn't someone post pictures of teak loungers that are on the Wonder now? I only saw those in the pictures and there were none of the white striped ones in sight.

I'm with jd99 on this...that's one of the things with Disney is that you pay so much and expect such a high standard, that folks tend to point out every single flaw they can find as an "AH HA" moment...

I agree about the pool though, that's gross...and some of those pics really do point out things that should have been finished before anyone was allowed to board!

But hey, I'll take some pictures of the nicks and dents in my furniture here at home and I guarantee 5 people won't look at them...you're on a cruise, so just have fun!!

Here's a small Tip with Sagging mattresses....

Lift up the mattress and store your suit cases and life jackets under, then put the mattress back down on top of them... :thumbsup2

That's what others were saying they did...

Thanks for the post Kevin.

Im certainly not having issues with the knicks and scratches here and there, but the green pool? That's pretty bad.

I hope they get that ships-shape before we come on board. Was hoping to spend some time in that pool!

Was on the Wonder last year, and never had any issues with mattress, pools or carpeting.

Will have to see how this next Cruise goes (we leave in 8 days!)

Thanks again for the pictures and post.

Kinda deflated the sails a little.....

As much as the sight of that pool made me cringe, I also know that it would not take much to get that water sparkling...

I also noticed that the toilet water was brown... That is common when the water is shut off to an area for a while... I am sure after a couple flushes the water in the toilet will be fine and after a couple chlorine tablets the Goofy Pool will be fine as well....

As far as the dents and dings on the furniture.... If anyone has a major problem with that ~ don't come to my house! :lmao:

thanks for taking the time to post. hope you are able to enjoy the rest of your cruise.
i wondered if you noticed any changes in shutters? we were on the eb repo, and i am thinking that some workers said that something was getting done to shutters while in drydock too...but i may be wrong??? did shutters have any improvements?

thanks for taking the time out from your vacation to not only report back but even post pictures!:flower3:
i'm glad that you were moved to an acceptable room and i hope that tomorrow will be a better day!
here is some pixiedust: for a great cruise from here on out!

Thanks for taking the time to post. I totally agree w/ you on the condition of the room. I was shocked when I saw the pictures. It's definitely not up to Disney standards. You expect more w/ the money you spend on a cruise.
Thansk again for posting.:thumbsup2

Thanks so much for posting the photos, Kevin! I'm so glad they took care of you and moved you out of that first room. I was pretty shocked at the condition, to be honest.
I hope you are enjoying your cruise now. Look forward to hearing about all of the fun you are having and seeing more of your wonderful photos :)

Ok don't want to get flamed but it seems like some of this is nit picking.

I'm sure glad you posted this. I was thinking the same thing when I saw all the pictures of the little scratches. I doubt that I'd even notice something like that. Now the tear in the carpet and the icky green pool, I would definitely notice and be not at all happy about. But never the scratches.

Regarding the changes at the QC pool...didn't someone post pictures of teak loungers that are on the Wonder now? I only saw those in the pictures and there were none of the white striped ones in sight.

I thought the upgrade was teak decking, not loungers? At least that's what I heard... don't know if maybe I'm remembering it wrong or whatever.

As far as the dents and dings on the furniture.... If anyone has a major problem with that ~ don't come to my house! :lmao:

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Same here!!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Hey All,

Just wanted to make a couple of comments:

<snippity snip for size>

- No upgrades or enhancements to staterooms other that new tv's. Yes they come out and swivel.. BUT the put in a board in there to attach the mount to so there is no extra storage space. =(

Thanks for the info. Too bad about no more space but then again we had space left over when we cruised so I'm sure it'll be fine.

Also, please know that just becuase I disagree with some of what you've posted that doesn't mean I'm not EXTREMELY thankful for you posting. I am very, very, very, very thankful that you're taking the time to let us know first-hand about our beloved Magic.

Eeeww on the pools. But COOL on the splash zone! My kids will love that!
Hope your new room is great!

:confused3 :confused3 :confused3 The wayhigher prices we pay on DCL entitle us to "nit pick". :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

His room was not acceptable. Mgmt. even said that. He is NOT nit picking.
They paid full fare for this cruise. This was not a discounted cruise. They should expect better from DCL than what they got/are getting.

:thumbsup2 I am so glad they fixed that for you. :thumbsup2

I am sure there must be more complaints.
This is a 3 day cruise with the pools NOT ready? Sorry...no excuse for that. I am upset for these people and the next group if the ship does not get up to snuff so to speak.

Whenever we asked about things that obviously needed repair or fixed, they stateroom hosts always said it was going to be fixed in dry dock.
On the EB Repo our Verandah was in pretty icky shape. Our stateroom hostess said they (DCL) was supposed to refinish the verandahs in dry dock.
The bed was almost unacceptable! DH complained until the day we left. We have been on enough DCL cruises to know the ship needed major repair in the rooms to bring them up to the QUALITY level DCL charges people for.
And yes, we to mention it on our comment cards.

I haven't sailed Disney since 2005 and the Magic since 2003. However, I am sailing the Magic again in March 2009. I sure hope they get things corrected by then. The dings and scratches don't bother me much, but a terrible mattress is another story! Those pools are gross!!!! I sure hope they give you an answer about the incompletions. Anyway, Disney is still my favorite, so I know you will have a great time. Even with all the imperfections, I'm still jealous! :rotfl:
