Disney Magic in 2024, still worth it?

Just got off the Magic. It’s beautiful but it is showing a little wear. One night water was dripping (making a puddle) in a hall near Animators. This happened in a few other places too. If you look for it you can see small rust spots. It’s still lovely, but it is not shiny and new like the Wish.

As far as ships go, she is no spring chicken (as my folks would say).

We loved the Magic! Just got off last week. We’ve been on Dream and Wonder, and loved how easy it was to get around the Magic. Loved the restaurants, shows and just being on a ship with fewer people.

This was also going on back in April, with reports long before that too. There was also an aft AC problem in aft public areas, which was also reported here almost a year earlier. It wouldn't keep me from sailing, but does have me wondering if Disney's upkeep standards are slipping. Between the Magic and the Wonder, only a week apart, we found the Wonder to be in noticeably better condition earlier this year. I wasn't looking for it, but within minutes of boarding the Wonder, the better condition stood out to me.

But, the Magic still seemed overall in good shape and looked better than some of the competitors in port. I wouldn't hesitate to sail on her again for the right itinerary.

That is disappointing to hear especially as they both were in drydock last year, and the Magic was in for a week longer than the Wonder.

I don't see how they think the leaks are acceptable... the magic is hardly an inexpensive ship to sail on....

is this common with older RCL/Carnival vessels?

I am wondering if the Magic’s unique construction method has to do with some of the issues. She was built in two parts that then were joint together. At the time this seemed to have been very unusual. I know that Meyer Werft does this now regularly (they build blocks that are then welded together), but it could be that Fincanteri back then didn’t do such a great job with it.

Rumor has it that DCL was not happy with the shipyard and therefore switched over to Meyer. No idea if there is any truth in it.

@Jsoenning We just booked cabin 8012 on the Magic for a cruise. Can you tell me if you had any smoking smell issues from above or any noise from the bridge? I have read on other reports about smoke on the Wonder and I did not know if the bridge door was on the port, starboard or both sides. Thank you!
Sorry so slow no smoke smell on the balcony and spent quite a bit of time out there.

No noise either but we always play white noise at night.

We were on the Magic last year and we loved it. It is worth it. We love the two smaller ships. Of course the shows and dining are top notch. We are back on her in February.

I'm a platinum cruiser, and the two older ships are still my favorites. I love the Magic/Wonder adult pool area WAY more than the newer ships. And I love that the beaches are less crowded when the smaller ships are docked at Castaway Cay.

Yes, they are old. But so am I :-)
