Is August considered summer season in Disneyland? Will WOC, Fantasmic etc. be show everyday like in July? We currently have a trip planned for July. We believe we will have to change our trip to August due to flights. Almost all of the southwest rapid reward member tickets for our dates are sold out. Does anyone know if Southwest ever releases more seats for rapid reward members?

Early August is summer season. Show every day, long hours.

The last couple weeks may not be. Last year they extended the season. This summer is likely to also be busy so they might do the same.

Agreed with all of the above. Once the All American College Band disbands ;) you can consider summer season over. That's generally the 2nd Saturday of August, more or less.

All of August is summer through Labor Day in September; and the second half of August is easily the single worst time of the year to visit Disneyland, unless you really love crowds.

Those dates are very close to the D23 convention, do you have a room already for those dates?

Ohh no, no I have not. How many people go to the expo? Will the parks be really crowded before the convention!?

At the first one there were over 40,000 in attendance. So it's a large convention. This will cause some extra crowds in the parks. But I doubt many will take time off work to visit the park on the weekdays before it starts. This summer it will be on Friday August 19th to 21st.

See "Understanding AP Blockouts and Impact on Crowds" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2365983

D23 Expo is Aug 19-21. FWIW the AP blockout lifts Aug 21. I am planning to hit the parks Aug 17-18 before the Expo and here and there during the Expo. With DS18 heading to college around then I may be forced to go to the parks after the Expo and that will be a zoo.

If you have flexibility on dates you may want to conclude your trip by August 17.

Are there AP rates for the DL hotels in August? We have never had APs before and plan on getting them this trip...
If there are AP rates at this time, what are they usually like? We aren't particularly interested in Paradise Pier, but the other 2 would be fabulous, depending on the rates.

How soon in advance would I have to book, and how would I get the AP rates if I haven't yet purchased my AP?

Thanks!

Not that I have seen. If so at the very end of August I would guess.

I almost wish I hadn't read this thread! We are booked to go to DisneyLand the 18th to the 22nd- guess I had better work on getting a room reserved. I am guessing there won't be many deals out there for that weekend!

Lots of people attending the convention did exactly that - and I would anticipate them doing the same again. People who are attending D23 are Disney fans. I think that is a given. If they do not live locally and are coming in town for a Disney-related Convention being held right next door to Disneyland, they are going to tack on a few days to go to.... DISNEYLAND! :dance3: I would absolutely count on there being an increase in crowd levels before and after the convention.

Remember, conventions bring lots of people to town. When there is a big non-Disney-related convention in town, the conference still affects Disneyland attendance somewhat because some of them check out Disneyland. This is a DISNEY convention. It's not a question of "Will they?" but rather "How many will?" And that is a crystal ball question. :goodvibes
