Disney Just Called Me About Flordia Rate Glitch...

I received the phone call today and as much as I was hoping they wouldn't call me, I still feel I got a good rate in the end. I did a search online prior to calling them back just to see if I could get anything better and for the room I am getting, a preferred room at CBR for 5 nights, the rate I was offered on the phone is much better than the rates on the website now. So I look at it as I am still getting a good deal. I was also able to change it to 2 people instead of 4 and was able to keep the first night at the rate I had already paid. I had only put 4 to get the rate glitch anyway. So I will still go to Disney as scheduled and pay more but have a wonderful time as always and not feel as guilty or worry as much as I have the past couple weeks. The guy I spoke with commented that the problem was with the tax and not with the room rate, which is why they can't honor it. If the room rate had been the problem which it clearly was not on my e-mail confirmation, it would be a totally different story.

Are you paying the Florida Resident Rate or did they offer a better rate?

Lets try to stay with stating the facts and not get into any heated debates. I am sure people would like to see this thread stay open not closed because it got nasty.

Thank you so much MOM. I would like to see it remain open, cause all of us with the rate are trying to keep informed on what is happening. And I hope this bickering stops. This is twice now a moderator has had to step in.

I am also a Certified Legal Assistant and have been for over 20 years (ouch - that actually hurt when I typed it  ) and what shocks me the most about this thread . . . All the Paralegals giving legal advice. That's a big ethical no, no. ;)

I am paying the Florida Resident Rate for 4 of the nights and the glitch rate for the first night but what they did was then average it out and it came to 118.00/ night. They redid the reseravtion at the new rate per night. I did have to pay the difference to hold that reservation though. The difference between what I had already paid and the new rate/per night. Still a better deal than cancelling and rebooking somewhere else.

Hi Amyn1274. I am arriving and departing CBR with the exact same dates and room preference as you. I have not recieved "the call" as of yet. Is the 118.00 a night including tax? Thanks!

Deweysgirl,
This was the rate including tax. It was the average after taking $11.44(my inital deposit) for the first night and $145.00/night (FL Resident rate) for 4 nights. I did however change it to 2 people instead of 4 so this might make a difference if you still have 4 people going. 4 people would be more per night. They pretty much just added it all together and divided by 5 nights to give me that rate. I would think this is the offer everyone is getting. Just to make sure I checked online and my new reservation is not listed yet (only the change in number of people) but I called a few mintues ago and paid the entire thing off so that there are no problems when we get there. Thats funny we are going at the exact same time. Who knows we might be right next to each other. I see you have Cast Member under your name. Are you still a Cast Member? I used to be a cast member at the DS but quit after Children's place took over. :flower:

The cast member under her name is a ranking system here on the DIS which is why it says "DIS cast member", after so many postings you get a different ranking. Yours is "Earning Your Ears".

Oh Ok thanks for the information. :flower:

I got my call today & wasn't home, I called back & left a message. I was called back at 6:30. Spoke to a very nice CM who said that I could decide what I wanted to do & he would call me back. I asked him to call at 8pm. When he called back, we were on the phone for nearly an hour... not fighting over the error, but chaning ressies over to different ones. I really do understand being a tax error, they really don't have to honor it. As far as para-legals giving out advise, well my friend is & her advise was correct! She read over my papers when I first got them thru the email. She said that they legally didn't have to honor it because the room rate was correct, it was a tax miscalculation. :guilty: I admit, I wished they did honor it.. but I do understand. I did ask why my money was taken to pay in full and I was never told of my credit back... he apoligized & looked up the CM that took my balance over the phone & said he would send a note to her supervisor. I almost wished he hadn't been that nice. I am still happy with what I ended up with. I am doing 12/20-22 (20th & 21st at PO-R, then over to the Poly) for a grand total of $170. I am still happy & really can't complain. Yes, it would have been nice to have what I booked, but that is the breaks. I am glad that I didn't cancel my ressies at Universal's RPR. Tonight I called them & dropped it to just 12/18 & 19th. That way on the 20th, I will go over to Disney. I hope everyone here ends up somewhat ok as well. I guess if Disney is offering the first night at the glitch rate, & the rest at regular Fl resident rates... for those who were going anyway, you are still ahead of the game :goodvibes I was going to Universal only for that time frame. I am now going for 5 nights instead of 4 (actually started out with only 3) & still coming out cheaper than the RPR for 4 nights... now if the RPR offers the 4 for 3 deal like last Christmas... I will be adding on the 16th & 17th LOL....I also kept 1 night in Oct (10/16). That trip was to be a Universal trip so I didn't want to stay on Disney's property for the reg resident rate...then travel to Universal. I will stay somewhere closer instead for the other 2 nights. I kept one night of my Thanksgiving trip.. but I may just cancel that all together. I have time to decide on that.. 46 days is the cancellation policy.... Word of advice.. be nice to the CM's when you speak to them...they aren't the ones that made this decision, they are just the messenger... they have a hard job ahead of them... :goodvibes

so your total for three nights was $170?

if they are hand calling everyone can there really be that many people who booked under this?

I agree with A Mickeyfan. The CM that called me was very nice, probably the same one. It was very easy to talk to him and although it would have been nice to get the original rate I am still happy with the rate I got. He thanked me for being so nice about it and apparently has had to deal with some upset/angry people. The way I see it we still come out ahead. Although I was planning on going in October anyway. I realize some people booked just to get the rate and were not planning on going so I would think they would refund the deposit if you decide to cancel. Just my opinion though.... not facts. Good Luck to everyone as they make their decison. I think I said this before but I looked online before I called him back and places were limited and much more per night except for the value resorts for the time frame I wanted.

yep $170!!!! I cannot complain. I think they are calling everyone ...one by one.. but there must be more than one calling...

that's really good esp for the Poly...

I think we will still cancel as we are going 4 nights in October and 2 nights in December before our cruise ....this way I will have more cruise $$.

It was apparent the "glitch" was a computer error. Is anyone trying take a different position? I don't really see an argument.

FL residents were hoping Disney would honor the mistake. The non FL residents were just plain cheating. The reservation has to be made by a FL resident, not made by a non-resident who says a FL resident may join them.

The point to argue is not the negative tax figure, but the confirmation stating "Balance Due at arrival: $XXX.XX". There are two sides to every argument (otherwise lawyers wouldn't be in business) and both sides have some very strong points. The fact remains, we paid deposits and have written confirmations stating the balance due, how that balance was calculated was in error, but it was Disney's error.

Sharon, we discussed this in another thread - I am a MI resident but we were going to be vacationing with our relatives from Cape Coral.

So a FL resident booking the rate knowing that it was inaccurate was acting in good faith, but an out-of-state resident booking with the intention of having in-state relatives join them wasn't acting in good faith??? :confused3

We must have had the same CM.. he was really nice...& was telling me that in the last 45 minutes he had about 20 very angry guests... and he thanked me for understanding... and yes... you are correct in your thinking.. if you want to opt out & cancel you may do so with a refund (if you are within your 46 day range you must cancel it when you speak to him, you cannot accpet the cheap night & then decided to cancel did that make sence?). ...but if you add days to your one cheap rate..and then decide to change anything on that ressie, you will loose that cheap night. I wasn't sure if I wanted to add a night for one of my ressies. By taking just the one cheap night, I can call and make a new ressie for a seperate night... that way I will not have them linked in the event I decided to change it..

Oh.. I am not at the Poly for 3 nights...just 1 there, I will be at PO-R for the first 2 then move to the Poly for the last night.. that is still a great deal!

I am not complaining... many of us here aren't. In fact I am still happy for what I am getting... I thanked the CM...

I thought we were suppose to try and keep this thread a good one so it isn't closed!! Ok we all know there was an error.. this entire thing is because of an error... Can we keep this thread going... there are many other posters that really want to read this info..and if we are acting like babies & calling each other names (sort of like...she's a cheat) I know it will be closed... please think of the posters that want to read this info. If you seem to think that someone did something wrong.. then don't read this thread .... we are here giving info to help our DIS family...not to be judged.... :confused3

Yes a "good deal" even if if it is in error every now and again is nice but Im not the least bit mad at the rate I did get or at Disney for not honoring the glitch.
