I never asked for a upgrade of any kind. this is what they offer to me...

You don't have to defend yourself anymore! There will always be people on here that do not agree with you, and some of them will not be very nice about it. This seems to be a recurring problem with Disney at the beginning of FD at Pop. They overbook the resort and then try to remedy the problem later last minute. Shame, shame!

I for one feel since it was a Disney created problem, they should go above and beyond to remedy it. I know we planned our trip in March and my girls and I have been dreaming of staying at the Poly since then. :upsidedow We have looked at countless pictures, planned our days in the park and our TS reservations all around where we are staying (4 of our meals are reservations at the Poly and 1 at GF). If I were to get a call 5 days before my check in day and be told that I am being switched to another Deluxe, I would be PISSED! :scared1: It would ruin my entire schedule, my ADRs, and everything else.

Enjoy your trip, have fun, you are after all at Disney!!

Yes you are correct about them being different HOWEVER the OP stated she was moved from POP (a Value resort) to All Stars (a value resort). If they had room at another VALUE resort for which reservations were made why would you expect to get an upgrade?
They did honor her reservation which was made at a VALUE resort. May not be the resort she wanted BUT it is equal to what she paid.

So if you were booked at Wilderness Lodge which is a DELUXE resort with boat access to MK and Contemporary (allowing easy access to monorail too), and you were told 5 days before your trip that you will now be staying at AKL, also a DELUXE resort but only having bus service and being the most remote resort to anything.... you'd be completely fine and okay with that?

Even though I'm 80%convinced you are trolling this thread, I'll answer.

Pop is significantly different from the All-Stars to make them distinct. That is why you don't book a category, you book a resort. The example of Poly vs. AKL was used effectively.

I'm glad someone understood !!

It must be very disappointing to have your vacation plans changed for you at the last minute. I can understand how anyone would be upset, but I feel for the people having to make these calls. It's not their fault. It has to be difficult to spend your day calling people to tell them their vacation plans have to change last minute.

Thanks!! I planning on having a Magical Time at Disney! :cool1:

Really? So if someone at your deluxe gets upgraded for free to a room type you paid for, that would upset you too?

Yes, yes it would. I paid for my room, so should everyone else. Why couldn't I book Pop and hope to get upgraded to a deluxe and pay for Pop prices. I have nothing against Pop, as I would go there for certain trips so don't flame me for that. I just think people should get what they pay for and not expect more. And I am not saying the OP expected anything more. It's the responses that people have been giving saying that she should be upgraded.

I just can't wrap my head around that. So if someone gets a free cupcake for their birthday at Chef Mickeys, you would also get upset because they got more for their money than you did?

No one should ever get any surprise or treat or upgrade of any kind?

I've been upgraded for free MANY times at Disney and, I'm sorry, but I didn't turn it down. ;)

 I just saw this thread and I'm NERVOUS !!! I booked a room only for Mon. 8/16 (preferred) and then a Free Dining 7 nite pkg 8/17-8/24...I better get a room @ POP or an upgrade to a Moderate!!!
I've been planning/saving for this trip for 3 years now!
The phone did ring a few times in the last few days and I didn't answer it ...I hope it wasn't Disney calling.:confused3
I want to have my Magical Vacation at POP Century !!!:woohoo:

I think there are a lot of assumptions being made that are not necessarily true.

For one thing, bear in mind that Pop Century has 2,880 rooms. That's a huge number of people who won't be disappointed by having to move.

Another important factor--none of us really know how accurate the "400" number is. Everyone here is assuming that it is, but I don't trust it. How many Disers have actually posted that they've been contacted to move? Last update I saw, it seemed like it should be a lot more if that number is correct.

I will say, though, that I played around with my own dates, and it does appear that Pop is sold-out for the next couple of weeks. I can't say that delights me. It's that many people using the buses, food court, pools and other amenities. I hate to be negative, but we've gone the past two years and did not experience any sell-outs then. I hope they can handle the crowd!

I finally made the decision to move to All-Stars. I was very upset about the situation, as I had my heart set on Pop. I had been reading the boards for months and had really been getting excited about it. I am a bit crushed that I will not get to stay there.

The reason I finally decided to move is that I do not want to arrive and have to be moved. I know there is a chance I would still get Pop, but the stress about it was ruining my excitment. I would rather know now and wrap my head around it. I was also worried that since I am checking in on Tuesday, and the free dp promotion starts two days earlier, there would be less chance that Pop would have rooms as people would already be checked in and not leaving yet.

I have been just trying to aruge with myself that I have never stayed in any Disney resort before, so I really do not know what I am missing except for what I have read and heard from some friends and possibly a newly refurb room.

I did get more compensation than just a preferred room at All-Stars, but I will not disclose exactly what. I will just say that we reached an agreement that took some of the sting out of the move. It was not easy to get anything at all but a move to All-Stars, but I really felt they took away some of the anticipation of my trip. I kind of wish people would not post what they received such as upgrades to Deluxe and such, as it makes those of us who did not get something so great feel gipped. I am happy for those who got those great things and do not begrude them their luck, but I would rather not know the details. I was not going to come to this thread anymore, but here I am. I guess it is like having to look at an accident or something.

Good luck to everyone else in this situation. I hope the situation is resolved for you in a way that makes you satisfied.

FYI, I opened up two rooms for August 17-23 with my move to All-Stars. Two down, possibly 398 to go. :)

Thanks for the switch...hope you are happy with the additional perks they offered you...hope I'm still at POP for Free Dining when we check in 8/17-8/24.:thumbsup2

Most people don't book POP with the hope of being upgraded. They book POP expecting to have their vacation at POP. It was Disney who changed that :goodvibes.

Yeah, last year I felt so left out when I booked POP, paid to upgrade to CSR and then everybody going the same week as me at POP all got upgraded to OKW and SSR! Couldn't help but feel like it wasn't fair that I had to pay and they got the bigger space for free. Good for them, but I felt like the idiot for paying.

Unfortunately for Disney there really is no way to win this. It's always unfair to somebody.
This year I've been nervous ever since I booked that we would feel cramped in the beds at POP, but after watching last year I've been afraid to pay to move because if I don't, I might get to move for free. Now I'm seeing people get moved to CR, and I don't want to feel stupid if I pay for it if I could have sat back and been handed a $$couple hundred per night for free.

We want the theme of POP, but otherwise I would only book something with queen beds.

The odds of getting a free upgrade are actually quite slim. Bear in mind that Pop has 2,880 rooms to fill before they have to move anyone. Assumiing the 400 number is accurate and normal last minute cancellations, the number of people who could potentially receive an upgrade is not large enough to bet on if you truly wanted something more.

We've gone roughly the same time frame for the past two years, and we didn't encounter a "sold out" resort. Some people were offered upgrades last year because Disney knew they could sell lower priced rooms while OKW and SSR rooms would be sitting empty. It wasn't a huge number of people or for a long period of time.

Both times we went to Pop, we got exactly what we reserved and what I asked for. Before this thread, it never occurred to me that I could or would get anything else.

OP
I hope that you are happy with the arrangement that you get from Disney. I hope your vacation is just as magical if no more so than you expected!!:thumbsup2

If they have 400 people to move, you may well arrive @ 9 pm with 2 small children and find you've been walked - due to this overbooking 'error.' Indeed, arriving so late you are more likely to be moved as early arrivers have already checked into their rooms. Nothing in Disney's contract requires that they notify you in advance. I'm not saying I agree with Disney doing this, but I see no real difference between a phone call 5 or less days pre-arrival and an unannounced move when you show up.

I see a whole lot different about this scenario. I don't want to sound rude but do you have children? We have an 18 month that will be traveling all day to arrive at 9 p.m. This is the first time she will travel on a plane. In fact, we will all be tired and cranky at this point. So we will wait in line in the lobby at POP only to find out we have to wait more for a ride. Then go to the next resort. Wait in line again...Oh look, now it's 10 p.m. Then maybe I can pay an extra $10 a night for the internet so I can stay up all night doing research on my new resort cause I have no clue. This is NOT the exact same thing as knowing 5 days in advance. Typically, they'll drive you over in a van, but your luggage may take awhile. Hopefully there are enough people like you who have no strong attachment to Pop and are fine with moving so that those who do care where they stay can stay where they booked and paid to stay.

Do you mean people like me that are less "rigid" than others. Hehehe

"As for my family, my 9 yr old would not determine where we were staying anyway. If they didn't like my choice of resort they could just stay home with grandma :confused3 That's how it works at my house."

Clearly you have a parenting style that is more rigid than some. Others have children mature enough at 9 to participate and share in the fun and excitement of planning a Disney vacation and, thus, it works differently in their house - viva la difference.

My children have always "helped" with the planning of the trip. Everyone has ideas they contribute. I make the final decisions (as all parents should) because I know what I can afford. Yes, I'm sure there are very mature 9 year olds. And some families have 9 yr olds that cry over a change in resort. This is NOT mature behavior (yes, even for adults on this thread ;)). If my children were told they could pick any resort they would pick the Grand Floridian or the Contemporary. Realistic for my budget. No.

I thought I might elaborate on the reference I made to the way you should present the changes to your child since I didn't see that quoted. A positive attitude goes a long way. You could say, "OMG disney just called and gave us a "preferred room" in a fun, new hotel. We are still going to disneyworld!!!! Don't worry. We are still going to see the princesses, etc. The only thing that changes is where we sleep. Yay!

And as we all know from Jeepchick's post- a positive attitude goes a long way. One door closes, another door opens. Sometimes change is good.

My children do not have an entitlement attitude and will give to others just because they want to. They also knew that every trip to wdw was a special trip. They knew that not all their friends were afforded the same luxury. They were always very grateful just to be at WDW, even at a young age. But I can also tell you that my children have known from an early age that tantrums do not get them anywhere. Rigid? Our family is actually pretty laid back and rolls with changes easily. In fact, DH and I were booked at POR for 25th anniversary trip but my niece asked to go with us. We downgraded to POP because she could not afford a mod. No problem. In the whole scheme of things, it's not always about "me". And I knew when I booked my room that it could be changed by disney. I read the disclaimer but I pushed the button anyways, as we all did.

And to the OP, I'm really excited for you getting to stay at SSR. I've toured it before with DVC and it's a beautiful resort. We can all request request an upgrade and maybe the disney magic will happen, but don't let it ruin your vacation if you don't get it. If I get "the call" I'm going to ask very nicely for POR. I might even tell the CM my 25th anniversary story. Maybe I'll get some disney magic :lovestruc

I'm so excited about going, nothing is going to change that. Even a hurricane forming. We've already discussed that scenario and we will, again, roll with the changes. Happy and safe travel everyone!

I'm going to guess the moving people around stops after this upcoming week because POP is available now starting the 21st. Yesterday it wasn't available until the 24th.

Unless it is only open because the server crashed again. :lmao: Here's to hoping it is less crowded the second week of free dining!
