wait, did I miss something? 400 families are out of a room @ Pop? Please someone verify...I am getting nervous, we're @ CBR one week from today, I hope someone who is insisting on an upgrade doesn't downgrade me to a value. We stayed @ ASMo twice, but this year I wanted a little upgrade and a "Caribbean Vacation" :goodvibes

haha if i get a call from Disney should I just not pick it up? I DON'T have a machine, just caller ID.

Because they are different !

Deluxe example Poly / AKL

Not a valid comparison. AKL and the Poly are way different in what they cost per night. The Pop and the All Stars have the same per night room rate.

I think it's really far fetched to think they will downgrade you and upgrade the POP people.

Should I say WL / AKL
Rate has nothing to do with it, we are talking value/moderate/deluxe ...
Sorry they are NOT the same ......
No matter what grouping .....
Moderate / Moderate
Deluxe / Deluxe
They are ALL different
I have stayed at each and can confirm this by experience .

I agree about the gravely ill, but not the military. "Noble" as it may be it still is, in the end, a career choice. The life and death situations they are put in are by their own choice. The sick don't choose to be sick.

As for the OP. Things happen. does it suck yeah but are you being accommodated YES! Disney called you in advance to fix the error. If your order is wrong at a restaurant do you request the most expensive item on the menu? No, so why would you deserve a deluxe upgrade? :confused3
And in the end you picked to stay at a value. If you wanted a deluxe then you should have booked that.
O have noticed that with expedia and other travel booking agents like it, there have been a few more over bookings at the World. I wonder if this may be the culprit here.

They did ask me if I would move to All Star Movies with a prefer room. ( When I first got on this board, I asked where is the prefer rooms. I never said I deserve more) Prefer room does not mean anything to me. I never asked for a upgrade of any kind. this is what they offer to me next. I Picked Pop for my resort and I rather be there! I never asked be treated special for any reason. All I did explaining why we are going and what we are celebrating before cory left.
. I told the cm, all I want is to know where I was going, instead finding out when I arrive. Thats not much to ask from disney. Because "Disney" felt I should have to wait until I showed up, if i did not take this offer. As I said earlier, I was very nice to the cm, I did not blame her.

Now, When I making my reservations (way back when) and if pop did not come up, I would switch to the Moderates. I would never booked All Star Movies or any of them. Theirs nothing wrong with those resorts at all. It's not what I wanted. I made it very clear a rather be at Pop.

I don't feel everyone have to explain their life or their choices they make in life.

As a wrote earlier, I understand these things happen all the time. I feel disney should not have called me 5 days out before arrival. I find that very unfair. YOu don't, but I do. Why does that make me a bad person; what disney offer to me? I took it and I'm happy. bottom line, I'm the customer. Make me happy! Disney and the Cast memeber went up and beyond the call of duty! I'm very very grateful to the Cast Member!!

Deluxe example Poly / AKL

Correct me if I'm wrong (which I am at times!), but wasn't it posted earlier in this thread that Disney has to give you a room of equal or greater value. In your example, the Poly/AKL are not of "equal" value. The rack rate for AKL standard view in August is $300 per night, whereas a Garden view at the poly is $365 per night. Thus, they'd have to give you at least a Savannah view room at AKL ($380 per night).

Now I completely agree that even if you move from Poly Garden to AKL Savannah view, that it's not the same. Location is one of the key selling points of the Poly, not to mention the transportation options (monorail and boats at Poly vs buses only at AKL). However, this thread isn't about AKL vs Poly and I don't recall anyone ever mentioning being moved from the Poly.

Regardless, you're right that Pop and the All-stars are not the same, but they're more similar than any other two resorts in the same category (except perhaps POR and POFQ). Fun theming, oversized icons, several pools without slides, identical room layouts and size, lots of painted concrete, uncovered bus stops, large and loud main halls, etc., etc. I agree that the All-stars are further away and don't always have dedicated bus service. The room rates are identical making them an "equivalent" resort. I don't disagree that I'd be po'd if I got switched, but I'd get over it and would make the most of my vacation. I've stayed at the All-Stars numerous times and lived to tell about it and even returned again - voluntarily.

Like I said before, had I planned on something and was looking forward to it, I would be disappointed to find out things were changed, but I would not let it ruin my vacation. I would be thrilled if I was offered something better, but because of the reservation contract I would not expect it. I am sorry if it offends you, but I do find it amusing that so many people were so adamant that they chose this hotel for the theme and that they are basing their vacation around this hotel, but their devastation on having their vacation ruined goes right out the window when they are offered an upgrade to a more expensive hotel category. Somehow the theme just became unimportant. ;)
I was thinking the same thing. hmmmmm.

our vacation starts on 8/21 so I was quite curious about all the commotion over here. I could care less if I was moved as long as disney tells me in advance. I just don't want to arrive at POP at 9 p.m. to find out I have to wait for another bus and/or luggage from ME and get moved with two small children. We usually can't afford to stay on property. So we will be happy just to be in WDW!!!!!

And as for making a 9 yr old cry? If you are upset and angry about the resort change, they will be too. If you tell them that the other resort is just as wonderful, they should be on board. As for my family, my 9 yr old would not determine where we were staying anyway. If they didn't like my choice of resort they could just stay home with grandma :confused3 That's how it works at my house.

I have to admit, I would be upset & except something to compensate the error. I don't think I would expect an upgrade, just maybe a fast pass, gift card, free fridge etc. We have stayed at many of the different resorts over the years, including all the values when the kids were smaller. We now do moderate or deluxe. I have to say we much prefered Pop over the All Stars, but we liked the All Stars well enough to still enjoy our visit. We have actually gone back & forth between mod & deluxe so we can stay in different resorts. There has never been any of the Disney resorts that we didn't have a good time at, maybe we just enjoyed some more than others. We really don't plan on going to a value again, but it has more to do with them being so big & crowded with small kids. Ours are teenagers now & like the quieter mod & deluxe resorts. Although an upgrade would be great for you, remember that are 400 rooms that have to be reassigned. It's unlikely that everyone will get an upgrade. If they do, someone who paid for a mod or deluxe will then start complaining

Boy this is a heated thread:confused3 I would be VERY upset if I were the OP or anyone else that got the call from Disney BUT, I personally do not think an upgrade is warranted. What about all the people actually paying the deluxe prices to stay in the deluxe hotel. It's simply not fair. Now, a mod hotel I think would be a better solution. The price difference is not that huge. Again, not really fair to the people paying the mod prices, but it's a better compromise.

Anyway, if it were me and I was going and had my hotel booked and did all my research and I got that call, I would cancel and have disney refund my full deposit. With months of planning, i would be devastated to know that I wasn't going to get the hotel I wanted.

I agree. Although I would be upset, as someone who pays for a deluxe, I would be upset if someone else payed for a value & got a deluxe. I really don't think OP expected an upgraded to a deluxe

Really? So if someone at your deluxe gets upgraded for free to a room type you paid for, that would upset you too?

Yeah, last year I felt so left out when I booked POP, paid to upgrade to CSR and then everybody going the same week as me at POP all got upgraded to OKW and SSR! Couldn't help but feel like it wasn't fair that I had to pay and they got the bigger space for free. Good for them, but I felt like the idiot for paying.

Unfortunately for Disney there really is no way to win this. It's always unfair to somebody.
This year I've been nervous ever since I booked that we would feel cramped in the beds at POP, but after watching last year I've been afraid to pay to move because if I don't, I might get to move for free. Now I'm seeing people get moved to CR, and I don't want to feel stupid if I pay for it if I could have sat back and been handed a $$couple hundred per night for free.

We want the theme of POP, but otherwise I would only book something with queen beds.

"I could care less if I was moved as long as disney tells me in advance. I just don't want to arrive at POP at 9 p.m. to find out I have to wait for another bus and/or luggage from ME and get moved with two small children."

If they have 400 people to move, you may well arrive @ 9 pm with 2 small children and find you've been walked - due to this overbooking 'error.' Indeed, arriving so late you are more likely to be moved as early arrivers have already checked into their rooms. Nothing in Disney's contract requires that they notify you in advance. I'm not saying I agree with Disney doing this, but I see no real difference between a phone call 5 or less days pre-arrival and an unannounced move when you show up. Typically, they'll drive you over in a van, but your luggage may take awhile. Hopefully there are enough people like you who have no strong attachment to Pop and are fine with moving so that those who do care where they stay can stay where they booked and paid to stay.

"As for my family, my 9 yr old would not determine where we were staying anyway. If they didn't like my choice of resort they could just stay home with grandma :confused3 That's how it works at my house."

Clearly you have a parenting style that is more rigid than some. Others have children mature enough at 9 to participate and share in the fun and excitement of planning a Disney vacation and, thus, it works differently in their house - viva la difference.

Yes you are correct about them being different HOWEVER the OP stated she was moved from POP (a Value resort) to All Stars (a value resort). If they had room at another VALUE resort for which reservations were made why would you expect to get an upgrade?
They did honor her reservation which was made at a VALUE resort. May not be the resort she wanted BUT it is equal to what she paid.

Every so slightly off topic, I've always wondered how getting bumped to another resort works?

Specifically, how does one get from the original resort to the new one? A lot of people arrive by taxi, would the resort find transportation for them, or would they have to find their own way?

Have you read the thread? LOL:confused3

Sure have. Go back to the OP (Original Post) and read it. Bumped from one VALUE resort to another VALUE resort so what is the problem? Same value in cost! Why would one assume they should get a Moderate/Deluxe or a DVC resort??? :rotfl:

Even though I'm 80%convinced you are trolling this thread, I'll answer.

Pop is significantly different from the All-Stars to make them distinct. That is why you don't book a category, you book a resort. The example of Poly vs. AKL was used effectively.
