disney just called;error in their system

So for those of you who might know, what dates does this big error go through?

I arrive on the 23rd and I've been watching this for days feeling sick to my stomach that I might get moved... it's mostly just the morning sickness speaking, but I like to know my plans.

I'm wondering, if I've been thinking of moving resorts, does it help anything if I call and do it now rather than making them move people and then chance me going somewhere else anyways? Or are all the errors cleared up by the 21st or something? It seems most resorts besides POP have availability from the 23rd on. (I can switch my entire stay Aug 23rd through Sept 2nd to almost any resort on site and they have rooms)

And watch their public perception plummet and lose more ground to Universal.

You may not agree with the folks that are bargaining for more, but that doesn't give any of you the right to cast your 'shame' upon them. When Disney changes the terms of my reservation, I have every right to request something in return, or walk away. Disney's choice. And my entire family has no problem taking my money to Universal if Disney so chooses.
You're right. I don't think anyone is discounting you have the right to walk away. I WOULD be upset if Disney changed the resort but said I still would have to pay a 'late cancellation' penalty. We haven't gotten any indication that's what's happening though.

I also love your use of the word 'bargaining'. The impression I'm getting from many on here is they don't want to bargain, they want to insist. And that's where I and others have problems.

:scared1: I sure as heck hope not!!!!:scared1:
I don't know. That might be kind of cool. A guest says what 'level' they want to stay at (Deluxe, Mod, Value), and a random generator picks the resort. I'd be willing to do this if they offer say a 20% discount or something, as long as it's not forced on me (ie: if I don't want a random hotel, I can still select the resort).

Not trying to crack open another can of worms, but...

With all this resort swapping due to over booking, should those of us using ME be concerned about our luggage making it to the right hotel? I think the CM I talked to said that the bar code on the tag would suffice. Maybe I'll take the baby's things as a carry-on so at least she will be OK if something happens to our luggage.
:confused3
Regardless of ME & resort swapping, you should ABSOLUTELY pack needed essentials in a carry on! I don't worry about Disney/ME, but I do worry about the airline!

I'm not sure who your reference to "any of you" is, but I don't think that most poster's believe that you don't have a right to ask for something in return. It's just that Disney also has the right to say no if they so choose, just as you have the right to walk away. I actually agree that it's in Disney's best interest to do something more, but I also wouldn't "expect" it either.

IMO, public perception is a large scale issue. This isn't even a microcosm of a larger issue IMO, but just a one-off issue very similar to the situation with single households of 5 or more who are offered "Guaranteed" connecting rooms only to find out at check-in that there is no such thing as a guarantee. I don't see any newspapers picking up this issue and running an expose on how Disney is overbooking and moving guests to other resorts. Yes, I feel for those affected but I don't think it's going to cause a large scale mutiny by Disney guests. I think most guests will accept the move or ask for additional compensation which they may or may not get. If a few refuse and want to move to Universal, I doubt if it will greatly affect Disney. I've been reading this and other theme park discussion groups/ boards since 1998 and I've always heard about how Disney is deteriorating and losing ground to Universal and other theme parks.

I have to be honest, though, because I don't know much about Universal. Does Universal also offer Free Dining? What is the cost of their least expensive resort compared to Pop or the All-Stars? I'm just wondering how practical your solution is for most guests affected in this particular situation. In other words, would Disney just see it as an empty threat by most guests.

Wow, this was a lot of pages to read.....first let me say that I'm thrilled that the OP was offered an upgrade and is happy with it. So glad you got some Pixie Dust.

2nd, let me voice my opinion on the All Stars. I've stayed in the ASMovies once, and the ASMusic twice. All three times, I couldn't have been happier with the room, the CM interaction or the service. I know some of you will not agree with me, but I think the All Stars are great. For us, we don't spend much time in the room....it's the parks we are there for...all we need is a bed and a bath. They are certainly MUCH better than some of other hotels I've stayed in over the years in various parts of the country. I've never stayed in a moderate or delux before, but I will on our December trip...we have the Poly for 2 nights...am looking forward to that...if for nothing more than the convience of the monorail right there.

I wish everyone who got the "phone call" on overbooked rooms gets something nice and has a wonderful vacation.

Disney is not going to lose business to Universal on any kind of scale that actually matters, financially.

What I have learned from this mess---never book POP the first week of free dining. Seems like they always overbook and somebody gets moved somewhere. What I learned from my Sept 2007 trip--NEVER go to WDW during free dining! My nice quiet Sept of 2004 and 2005 were ruined!! And it was still HOT!!

We have stayed in All Stars 5 times. The first was with my children's band/chior during Magic Music Days. Yes, a group of over 300 students. I was a chaperone and we had absolutely no problems with manners etc. They had so much on their plate with performing that they really were asleep by 11 or so! We had a great time at ASMu. The next time was Sports, it had just been redone in 2007 when we visited-great CMs and the rooms were not only clean but brand new! The next 3 times were also at ASMu-Jazz all 3 times - again great CMs and those rooms were redone as well.
We chose allstars since 3 times we had free dining and had to pay rack and the other we rec'd a $500 giftcard, yes, $500 for a 5 night stay at a Value with a PIN! another rack rate promo. We are AP holders and upgraded a few of the 1 day passes to APs in Feb and we will return the week after Thanksgiving. I actually, had I known the quality of service at WL (my actual fav. resort) would have stayed at an all stars in Feb had I known!! Could have pd. for both trips for what the WL cost (even with 40%PIN)

Thanks for removing my user name from your original post. I apologize if you interpreted any of my posts as snickering or posing as a CM. If I came across that way, I apologize. I emphasized with the OP and even said she handled it politely and in my first post on page 15, I suggested that it be handled nicely. I even stated that I would probably ask for a change or something else, but would probably accept it once it's done. I mentioned that I was quite surprised that people could be so rude in person when responding to the CM who posted and then went on to tell another poster affected that I understand that she didn't like seeing others post about upgrades.

I try my best not to post rude posts, but sometimes the written word can be misinterpreted as there is no body language. I don't disagree that I have a different opinion than many on this thread, but I still respect everyone's opinion nonetheless.

I still believe that this whole situation has been blown out of proportion and just wanted to state that expecting Disney to perform miracles isn't going to happen every time. I've had to write a few letters over the years to Disney expressing our disappointment about a particular aspect of something. Only once was I truly disappointed with their response, but I knew that I was asking for something that wasn't going to be fixed to my liking unless they heard from a large number of guests on the issue. I understand that's how businesses operate and in that situation, I still booked a Disney cruise the following week even though I was unhappy with how we Silver castaway club members were treated.

I am sorry you had to read that. That was so very unkind of me. I regretted it the moment I clicked on the submit button. Wished I was quicker with my editing. I am normally very non-confrontational. I wonder what came over me today? Must be some internal server overheating. :goodvibes

No problem or hard feelings! :goodvibes BTW you support my theory that most people are quite nice in person even if they may disagree on these boards.

You are reading way to much into it. No one is casting "shame,' but I do think that people are trying to get something for which they did not pay. If you can, more power to you, but you shouldn't be angry if you can't. Technically, WDW did not "change the terms of your reservation." If you read the fine print, which, admittedly, many do not, you see they are well within their contract to move you to an alternate resort within the same category. Value to value, mod to mod, deluxe to deluxe, and as has happened to others who have posted, they can do it without notifying you ahead of time. I do believe that WDW is cognizant of customer service and that is why they are notifying people ahead of time and giving them a choice of which same category hotel in which they would like to stay. Like I said before, had I planned on something and was looking forward to it, I would be disappointed to find out things were changed, but I would not let it ruin my vacation. I would be thrilled if I was offered something better, but because of the reservation contract I would not expect it. I am sorry if it offends you, but I do find it amusing that so many people were so adamant that they chose this hotel for the theme and that they are basing their vacation around this hotel, but their devastation on having their vacation ruined goes right out the window when they are offered an upgrade to a more expensive hotel category. Somehow the theme just became unimportant. ;)

Thats all nice and everything but if she wanted to stay at All Stars she would have booked there originally. Who cares about the preferred location if you are unhappy with the resort.

I have to agree here. If I had to, I'd stay at POP Century, but I'd never stay at any of the other value resorts. Just not my taste. I don't think she should be upgraded to a deluxe resort but a moderate is an acceptable upgrade. A mistake is a mistake and I don't think that Disney needs to go over the top in compensating her but they definitely need to better their mistake.

The problem is we are not sure they CAN "better their mistake" by moving all 400 families over to mods (due to capacity at those resorts).

We also don't know if any "pixie dust" will find its way to those who just accepted the move to AS. Maybe those guests will find special "gifts" when they check in.

No and I hope it stays that way. Universal has some great restaurants and I think much better than the mouse.

The gentleman I spoke to said just cross out the resort name and write your new resort name, but do not mark the barcode in anyway because that is what links it to your reservation.

I'm just curious what Disney is doing if the guest already booked a "preferred" room?

All Stars and Pop are both value resorts. WHY would you expect an upgrade?:confused3

Maybe because planning a vacation is stressful enough without recieveing a phone call 5 days before you are scheduled to arrive, to hear the person on the other end of the phone tell you , that you need to move to another resort, after you have done online check-in and relieved that now everything was done and you were set to go???
