Disney jacks up parking prices.

I know it's little consolation. But this is still cheaper than Seaworld or Six Flags :confused3

supply and demand, baby. If you charge it, they will pay.

I am not sure where everyone gets the idea that Disney is against raising prices. When I was there in August I saw no signs of a poor economy???
People are going to pay.

Wish I lived on Whidbey Island.

My thoughts exactly. It also discourages people from coming solo and taking up parking spots. Disney is a business. If they can raise prices and people will still pay (i.e., no drop off in demand) then it is bad business to not do it.

I own mutual funds that own Disney stock I am sure. Disney's main purpose (and any business' main purpose) is to make money for shareholders (people like me - and you if you have a 401k or any other investments).

Whenever there is a price increase on admission tickets I always compare that to other forms of entertainment. Disney one-day adult tickets now cost $72. For 10-17 hours of entertainment.

Compare that to some other forms of entertainment:

Snow ski - $70-80 (for 7 hours)
Rockies tickets - $25 for cheap seats (3 hours)
Broncos tickets - $80+ for cheap seats if you can even get them (3 hours)
Brad Paisley Concert in Denver last month - $80 (3 hours)

Plus higher prices keep out the hoodlums. Disney prices are very competitive IMO.

Sorry to completely threadjack but, DangerMouse, my husband was stationed at Whidbey for two years! We just moved to San Diego this January and both of us agree that we (quite) unexpectedly miss it! We lived in Anacortes. Jack, it was gorgeous, I worked on a whale-watching boat. Best gig I ever had!

Uh, no.
If "people will pay" then it won't discourage anyone from doing anything or encourage different visiting patterns.

If some people won't pay, Disney will. What about AP holders without parking passes? Especially in the case of So. CA folks, they often drive to DLR alone. You've jacked up a visit $2, in addition to the increased AP cost, and then there's the food they may buy at DLR that now has smaller portions and higher prices.

The hidden cost of multi-day parkhoppers has also gone up. Those considering buying them need to take parking fees into account and suddenly that "bargain" won't seem like so great a deal.

The most idiotic aspect is that this is a price that a visitors must pay even before they get near the DLR entrance gates. Sticker shock at the ticket booth is bad enough, but now the geniuses at DLR (- Ed Grier) want to scare you away from even showing up!

Yes, but...

Every year costs increase. Property taxes. Insurance. Employee pay. Health care. Security. Etc.

Should Disney make shareholders pay for that in the form of lower dividends and/or share price drops because of reduced profitability? Or should they reduce expenses by laying people off to maintain profitability? Or should they increase cost for those who use the service to maintain profitability? Etc. The reality is that most businesses do a little of each depending on their market and the economy.

As shareholders we want increased profitability. As consumers we want lower prices.

Ed just resigned, fyi. Maybe the next president will have even visited the park! :lmao:

.

Well, I'm never in favor of price increases, but it doesn't seem too bad to me. Of course, I don't drive ;). If I went all the time, I'd invest in a premium pass or add it to a deluxe. Actually, I'd probably just stay at Hojo for $59 and spend 2 days at DL and park for free :thumbsup2

Since I drive to the airport (where I pay to park my car), fly down and then take a shuttle or taxi, $14 to park doesn't seem so bad to me.

Price increases stink all around, I'm sure everyone can agree with that.

If you feel that strongly, then don't go and give them your hard earned money.

Just want to point out that a LOT of "locals" without parking passes on their AP's skirt the parking situation by parking at Downtown Disney, where you get three free hours, plus two more with validation from a restaurant.

We do this all the time, even though we DO have the parking pass. Most often, our vists are less than 3 hours in length...

They just better not eliminate the three free hours at DtD...

Ah! Very clever!! I was just wondering if you could park for free somewhere close by. I thought of Garden...whatever that mall is called. Forgot about DTD!

personally, i find myself developing a kind of love-hate relationship with disney, lol.

of course, i love being at disneyland. but their price-hikes do get on my nerves more and more as the years go by. i guess maybe because it seems like their price-hikes are increasing in quantity and frequency in the last 6 years or so.

our next trip will be the first time we don't pay for parking, as we are going to stay at a nearby off-site hotel, and our kids are now (thank God) all old enough to go without strollers.

Yeah, another "tip" about the DTD area is that they don't open the toll gates until WELL after 12noon on WEEKDAYS, so on days where the park opens SUPER early, like at 8am, you can usually get away with more than 3 free hours, even without validation.

I've discovered this after many, MANY visits.

I have the parking pass on my AP, but it's just easier to bypass the M&F structure sometimes, especially when the line to park is out to the freeway. ;) Plus, taking the monorail directly into Tomorrowland is a huge time saver as well.

However, it IS worth noting that any passholder can add the parking feature for somewhere around $60, which is a GREAT value if you will visit more than 5 times over the course of the year. Since I go almost every week, it obviously is a huge $$$ savings for me.

I just noticed the increase this weekend. No biggie. I bought a parking pass. But its still cheaper than some places.

I am planning a trip to San Francisco.....some places are $45 a night to park. Now that's crazy.

Exactly. I vaguely remember that was one of Eisner & Well's goals when they came on board - to get the price of a Disney ticket up to the level of a lift ticket. Used to be a lot cheaper than that. And the company almost got bought up by Wall Street sharks and sold off piece by piece.

This is what it is. We can't gripe about it, you have to kind of expect that the prices are going to climb. I saw it climb year after year whille visiting and then working at WDW. Although I've never seen the jump in price more than one dollar at a time. Don't blame Disney, blame the Nixon administration for setting the standard of inflation. :thumbsup2

If you have an AP it is and always has been worth the money to add parking to it. I just got the So Cal pass and thought that the 258 I spent on the pass and parking was a very fair price. Considering I have far more available dates then blocked out dates.

Also as me and my fiance saw it, we only added parking to one of the passes, this way we will always have free parking and we saved money on her pass. Besides....she shouldn't be going without me anyways! lol
