Disney is losing it

I've never gotten emails or letters reminding me my trip was coming or that it was close to my time to choose FP+.

Also, never gotten the postcards and things that people get after their trips thanking them or whatever.

Darn Disney

But are we going to land astronauts on Mars before Disney figures out that it can send its blast emails 62 days before arrival instead of 55 days before?

Why would anybody on this board want that???? We know and get a head start. Can you imagine what it would be like to get fP+ at 60 days if everybody that was eligible did it as soon as they were eligible? I guess the kiosks would be free since you wouldn't have all of those people getting them day of, when they could be doing them in advance. Personally I like my head start and get a great satisfaction of having them all done before I get the email 24 hours later.

I look at it as a way of Disney rewarding folks that are paying attention.

This past month alone I have given tips on saving money, rope drop, fast passes, discounts, links to Robo's thread for fp priority, ADR advice, and sent at least 5 different people links to wdwinfo, Allears, Mouse Savers, Undercover Tourist, Kenny the Pirate, etc. So many people have no idea. I put it that they can take it or leave it, but for many this is a first time/only time trip, so it's best to try to get the most out of it. Many people I have talked to recently (with all the changes, especially wait times and crowds) are not inclined to want a return trip any time soon. They are quite overwhelmed.
Where, pray tell, is Robo's thread for fp priority? Please and thank you!

Just an observation...

First, last month after waiting a loooong time for my vacation planning DVD it finally came in. It was outdated. It showed "Downtown Disney" and a bunch of other areas/attractions with outdated information.

If you want more information regarding the newest Disney Planning DVD see http://www.disboards.com/threads/2016-vacation-planning-dvd.3478934/

It is stated there that in Jan the 2015 DVD was still being mailed out as some people received it..however in the 2nd week or so-to now Feb. the 2016 DVD was sent out. I love getting the DVDs (I go about every 5 to 6 years so for me it's a way to get a sneak peak and get excited) but if you ordered the DVD in Jan that was JUST into 2016 I would expect a transition period before people would receive the 2016 which yes is a bummer to anyone going in Jan and early parts of Feb.

Edit:

People noted that the 2016 DVD had Rivers of Light and Disney Springs in it (as far as they mentioned the name had transitioned in the DVD to Disney Springs vs Downtown Disney however they did mention that the new Frozen Ever After wasn't mentioned which to me just means they filmed and finalized the DVD prior to having a more concrete time frame for the new attraction (especially since last I had heard it was going to open May 1,2016 but now the date is just simply "Summer 2016" which isn't really May).

Ah, but if you ask about Mesaboy2's thread, it can be found here.
I utilized that thread a WHOLE lot prior to my 12/15 trip. That's where I found out I could make fp for MVMCP from 3:30 - 6:30. That alone was worth the read. Thank you @mesaboy2!!!
I was hoping @Robo had a specific thread about anything at all. I do so love his maps! Highly informative!

never gotten a magnet but i have received to cool sketch thank you card about a week after i got back home
my trips are usually 1-2 days lol we have a condo about an hour to two hours depending on traffic from disney occasionally we do a good 4 day trip every few years though I've ordered the dvd several times but never received tried this evening to order and half way through the process it just tool me to watch it online now guess i don't qualify lol

but also i think is fine if they send out a reminded 55 days out lol gives the people who are prepared more chance to get what they want, and odds are with a little effort any fast pass can be done, i know one day out we decide dot just go and stay the night i managed seven dwarfs anna and elsa and splash mountain exactly when i wanted i seriously have never gotten they hype of how ppl don't get what they want (this was a trip with 9 ppl)

What percentage of on-site guests worry about the advantage of first-possible-second-booking of FP+?

How many guests on this board ignore (or outright deny) the Rope Drop advantage?

Does anyone actually deny the Rope drop advantage ? Ignore yes, but deny ? I have never seen it.

And I recognize that lots of on site guests don't worry about it, but come on, its just silly to tell people their FP window is "opening soon" when its been open for 5 or 6 days. Heck, just say ... "Just a reminder your FP+ window is now open" ...

But why remind them they can get their FPs 60 days in advance 55 days in advance? Why isn't the system set up to send out reminders "60+ x" days in advance? That "fix" has nothing whatsoever to do with being a novice or an expert. It is content neutral and just seems to make sense.

It's by design ...not that they haven't discovered the capability. Could be many reasons.

It think the post suggested that there are people who don't know they can get FastPasses 60 days out if staying at a Disney resort.

There are any people who aren't on this board and know everything about Disney World (or think they know everything about Disney World :)). For example, I just started a temp job a few weeks ago and a co-worker is going on an unexpected trip to Disney World next week. It's herself, her husband and two small daughters. He's in the National Guard so they get military passes which made the trip affordable to them. But, she recently said they didn't book an onsite resort room because the values don't have refrigerators in them and they just needed a small one for the girls' milk. She also said it was frustrating for her because they can't book their FastPasses until they get there because they are not staying on site.

When she first started talking about going, I said if she needed advice to let me know because I've been there a lot and read up on things. She dismissed me with a wave of her hand and said "we go every year and we have military discounts so we know what we are doing."

So a Disney "expert" who doesn't know she can book FastPasses now.

God bless all those children (& adults) that don't know how to make the most of their vacation. I am always dumbfounded by people standing in lines for anything more than 45 minutes, let alone 90+ minutes. I always shake my head and think God bless the one and done folks that do that crazy stuff. Then, I exit stage left and head back to the pool at the resort. I really don't like the parks between noon and 5 anyways -- happy to avoid all the magical moments and meltdowns. I remember being commando ten years back, and now I just think, well if I don't see it this trip I will make it priority for next time...but even back then I never waited for more than 45 for anything, we just planned it so we caught everything in a way that made the best use of time.

Totally! I don't get why some folks are lobbying for the unknowing guest when it's the mass of guests who know so little that allows us to get more FastPasses, better FastPasses, better ADRs, and so on. And it's always been that way. It was great when most guests didn't understand or use the old FP- system, and it's great now that some don't understand the precision involved in the new one. And even still, It's great that these guests go to WDW and are perfectly happy w getting the FPs they do. It would be terrible if Disney was to start sending alerts at 62 days instead of 55 days.

It might be terrible for you. But it would be fair for Disney. What incentive does Disney have in perpetuating the existence of the "super-user" when it retired a system whose primary flaw was the ability of some to take advantage of most? That's sort of like saying: "Let's create a egalitarian system.....and then hide some Easter Eggs so that a few people retain a distinct advantage." I can understand why someone here would get all "Bwah-ha-ha-ha" over that. But if you were the system designer at WDW, wouldn't you want the entire world to be clued in to the way your new OS works, and wouldn't you want the entire world to make good use of all the features and sing its praises? Honestly, do you think that there was a meeting in a conference room where a group of execs made the conscious decision to notify people 55 days in advance specifically so that chat board shut-ins would have a one week advantage? I suppose anything is possible, but I am having a hard time buying into this level of conspiracy.
