I’ve called two different rental agencies(Enterprise and the second one I forget) that I’ve told me that it is not a problem to rent a car with Covid. Enterprise told me that it happens quite frequently with people who are unable to fly because of Covid. But you are missing the point. Asymptomatic means nothing other than you don't feel sick. If you test positive for covid, the protocols/quarantines are in place to keep you from exposing others to covid and making them sick.. I haven't seen your insurance contract, but I suspect that for them to pay, they require you to follow the protocols.
I don’t understand how driving 22 hours in a car instead of flying on a plane which would obviously never happen or staying in a hotel where we would have to check in continuously get diabetic and allergy free food sent to the room somehow figure out laundry and additional medical supplies. Groceries sent to the room to cover possible diabetic needs that may arise for 10 days is going to leave less of a footprint on the community than a 22 hour ride home we’re family can pick up and drop off things at our 4 homes as needed. I guess we could all ride it out at one house if we find that somebody eventually shows symptoms. I just don’t get how 10 days with multiple strangers all day caring for us, is safer than a 22 hour ride home?
We would not even fly to Florida from Wisconsin if we don’t feel well. Too big a risk. Taking at home tests 4 hours before we fly. But planning on driving home for the safety of the 78 yr old transplant recipient, if anyone comes up positive. The entire party of 5 is 3X vaccinated, I would expect symptoms to be minimal, and the length of the drive to be the most difficult part of journey. Happy to keep the car extra days if needed, although Enterprise said it wasn’t necessary.
This post I started was initially to find out about car rental/insurance. I feel I am ethically minded too provide the safest Covid care to my family and protect the public. Ugh, that also means a 24 Hour drive with masks on for the five of us. Unlikely that we will all have Covid at the same time to start coming from 4 houses.
Merry Christmas and healthy new year to you all.
