Disney in Texas

All you people not wanting a Disney in Texas....:confused3 tsk..tsk...tsk...:sad2: Obviously if they built another park it would have something different about it not all the parks are the same. If you lived in Texas you would probably hope for one if you were a big Disney nut and didn't want to pay as much to go to WDW or DL. Obviously Texans aren't satisfied enough with the "amusement parks" that are here. I know I've been to them and I'm tired of them and would like to see a fresh change around here. Personal opinion though. I guess growing up with Disney being a BIG part of my life from my first trip as a WISH kid to my Engagement there and Honeymoon in September I guess Disney just means so much to me. I know A LOT of Texans who feel the same about Disney for various reasons but they are really Disney nuts! I see my fair share of Disney fans here in the DFW area just by looking at the cars around me and the people in the stores. Everywhere I look I see Disney so why not add a park? It would probably make some good money.

Why? That's the part I can't figure out. Unless it will be something very very very very different from what is already available from every theme park company in the country. For example if they decided to actually build EPCOT as it was originally intended to be. Or maybe something like Disney Seas.
I agree - why would they develop a new resort along the lines of previous ones? It would have to be something totally different, I'd think. Of course, there was the Disney America.

Otherwise...when I lived in New York Metro I was always highly annoyed when my flights had a connection in Texas. None of the major cities on the west coast would be through Texas unless you were going to San Diego. And if you made a map of the country weighted by population I don't think Texas would be remotely in the center of it.

The center of the country weighted by population is in Missouri. See: this page. Assuming you want to build in the South, to take advantage of warmer weather, you'd end up in Louisiana. That's not real far from Texas...

Three of the 10 largest cities in the U.S. are in Texas, and there's a lot of room still to build. Add in the weather, infrastructure, etc., it makes sense that if Disney were wanting to build in the center of the U.S., Texas would be the place. But, I don't think building there (at least, building anything like the exisiting parks) makes much sense at all.

I just think it takes away from the magic. I personally think the more exclusive the better. If they were to build a Disney in NJ it would take away from everything thats special. I could go whenever I wanted and it would just take away from the overall "magic".

But Texas does have the second highest population of the states, after CA (something like 22 million), so that might be a factor IF they were to decide to build in TX, which I do not think they will.

I heard today ( from a realtor) that the papers have been signed for disney north of 380.

That is exactly why I am really kinda hoping that Disney is not coming to Texas.

Now if it were a totally different kind of park - nothing at all like the Magic Kingdom or one of the other parks - THEN I might start to get a bit excited about it.

I used to live within walking distance of Disneyland for 3 years in the 80's. I love it - we could simply walk out of our apartment and see nightly fireworks - however it did make it seem more of an everyday type of thing - than something special and magical.

Ok, the Superbowl is over. I see the dancing girls :dance3: , but where's the announcement???? :)

I live north of Mckinney and it has been said that is where Disney will be built.

I did hear they bought a ton of land in Texas.. I heard they're going to make it some sort of a horse ranch destination resort though.. possibly for Adventures By Disney...?

It would be really nice. Especially San Antonio. We are a very friendly and diverse city. There are never any extreme weather conditions, unlike California and Florida, the weather is perfect for vacationing at all times. you would also not have to deal with the humidity. San Antonio could actually become the next Orlando. We have the Alamo, the Riverwalk, a Sea World and a Six Flags, why not complete it with a Disneyland. I'm sure George Strait, Tony Parker and Eva Longoria would be thrilled.:wizard:

Dinosaur park planned for East Montgomery County

By MELECIO C. FRANCO

This conceptual drawing of the Dinosaur City exhibit hall shows possibilities for the facility that include reconstructed dinosaur skeletons and robotic, life-sized, animated models.

East Montgomery County has been selected as the site for the largest dinosaur park in the world.

Frank McCrady, president and CEO of the East Montgomery County Improvement District, announced on Oct. 31 that Dinosaur City, a $50 million educational park and live-animal facility, will be built in New Caney by 2010.
The facility will feature a 110,000-square-foot exhibit hall and dinosaur display, an IMAX theater, a water recreation park, hotel and convention center. Leading theme park designers, one of Germany's leading zoo directors, robotics and special effects experts are all involved in the planning for the facility. "It's going to be a nice project," said McCrady. "It can truly define our area in the future as far as travel and tourism."

The park is expected to attract more than a million visitors each year.

The facility is the concept of the dinosaur expert known as "Dino" Don Lessem, an author of 47 books on dinosaurs and advisor to Universal Studios' Jurassic Park, Walt Disney Company and Animal Kingdom dinosaur attractions.

"It will have the largest dinosaur educational facility in the world," said Lessem. "I dug up the biggest dinosaurs and they need a place to live."

Construction of the facility will be a five-year project, according to McCrady. The first phase is a $200,000 site study paid for by the improvement district to analyze the property, which is located north of Caney Creek on the west side of U.S. Highway 59 North.

"We'll partner with the state for additional financial needs," said McCrady. "It's a regional attraction not just a state attraction. A lot of people will come from out of state. It's a win for our area and a win for Texas, as well."

The park is expected to create 500 to 1,000 jobs, according to McCrady.

New Caney beat Dallas as the final location for the facility, according to Lessem.

"I liked the look of the community," he said. "The land was completely undeveloped. We want to celebrate nature. This is not a theme park. This is something that hasn't been done before. We want to keep it as pristine as we can."

Lessem wants the facility to have allied programs with the Houston Museum of Natural Science, the Houston Zoo and have mobile exhibits. Live exotic animals will also be included at the park. Other projects at the facility will include educational outreach tours and field trips.
Lessem also hopes to create a university affiliation with one of the Texas universities and create a nonprofit foundation to help generate revenue to fund dinosaur research.

"We want to steer a bit of revenue towards education," he said.

Lessem explained that the dinosaur park is one way to get children interested in science.

"You can teach them all about science when they are interested in dinosaurs," he said.

A Investor In Celina Texas Said That Disney Is Coming To Celina, Tx. Supposively Disney Has Bought 15,000 Acres And Already Has The Water Rights.
The Celina, Texas, rumor goes back to early 2007. It's one of dozens of rumors of land purchased in Texas by Disney.

Here's an article from GlobeSt.com, a real estate trade site, republished by Mickey News: http://www.mickeynews.com/News/DisplayPressRelease.asp_Q_id_E_2157Texas

If Disney had water rights, it would be public record. It could not be kept secret for over a year.

Disney would only buy 15,000 acres if they were planning a third major destination resort in the United States, and they've been telling the investment community that there are no such plans.

Here's more about Disney Texas rumors and the likelihood that any of them are true: http://www.yesterland.com/urbanlegends.html

Celina is a tad bigger than a 'blink and miss it' town, and the Dallas North Tollway is going to go through the west part of it in a couple of years. Someone obviously wants to drive up those prices, wonder if the NTTA* didn't offer what they wanted!

(We live a few miles south of Celina, and southwest of the spot in McKinney. I love all of this speculation! Shows we have lots of Disney fans here.:goodvibes )
