Disney in August

How bad are the crowds?

Actually the crowds begin to lighten around mid August. Most Southern schools begin the 3rd week in August. We generally go around 8/19 and never had more than a 30 minute wait on any ride and we have great luck getting meals without adr's. This year free dining begins the last week in August so that usually brings in a lot of people.

We've also had good luck with crowds at this time. We're actually going the third week in August and it's the heat you have to think about, not the crowds. Drink plenty of water and plan indoor things during the hottest time of the day.

We also always go the last two weeks in August. My DH is a teacher, and he teaches summer school which ends mid august and we don't start school here till Labor Day. The crowds definitly are not bad, even last year with free dining. This year we are going 8/19-9/2 so we miss most of the free dining and I don't expect big crowds. HTH!

Do they always offer free dining this time of year?
I'm am concerned about the heat, we normally go in November but we are planning a trip with my BIL and his family...he is a teacher so this is the best time of year to go.
We are DVC members so unfortunaltey "free dining" isn't something we can take advantage of.....I wish they offered some kind of discount on the dining plan for DVC members.

We go every year in August..get to the parks early (at opening..beat the crowds and the heat) and take advantage of fast passes and you will have a great time.
It is VERY hot..drink lots of water and head in to the a/c every once in a while to cool down.

I also recommend pretending not to see the 'Kid Water Fountains' and walk right through them. Very refreshing. :yay:

This is my 1st summer/August trip...yes it's all about the FREE FOOD!!!!

Just back from an Alaskan cruise with lot's of folks from Florida on board. When they would tell me where they were from, I would respond with, "we are going to Florida in August!".

EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM responded with, "WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU CHOOSE FLORIDA IN AUGUST?????".

~Sigh~

And to make matters worse I am a GINORMOUS heat weanie!!!

My plan is to take the daytime light, toss in some resort time during the day and then hit the park hard during the extra late magic hours until 1-2:00 AM!!!! On our West coast body clocks it will only be 10-11:00 PM! The screaming children and their stroller driving challenged folks will all be in bed :lmao: !!

Plus we are spending a day at each of the water parks.

Wow, what I will do for FREE FOOD!

We're going in August to take advantage of some free airline tickets that will expire soon. According to the unofficial guide, the parks are not as busy as you move into mid-August. We're going from 8/11-8/16, so we'll be on the cusp of mid August.

As for the heat, we are staying at the Wilderness Lodge Villas and plan to return from the parks every day for a long dose of pool time.

We went the last week of August last year and the crowds weren't bad at all. I don't think we waited more than 20 minutes for anything. It was hot as heck, but it was doable and we're going back the same time this year.
