I have been to disney many times and am a dvc member. I want to plan a trip for euther late august or september with my wife and 3 boys. Which time would be better?
With the possible exception of Labor Day weekend, either should be fine. Mid-to late August is pretty slow because many children and college folks return to school. The weather is still steamy, though and thunderstorms pop up nearly every afternoon. Hurricanes are a possibility, although hopefully last year's storms will not be repeated anytime soon. DTD is usually only busy on weekends then, although it can be a mob scene then.
It depends how old your 3 sons are, if you're willing to take them out of school or not. When my girls were younger we took them out at the end of September - the teacher said it was the best time, because she was just reviewing, of course this was 1st grade. As they got older, I hated to take them out even though there's less crowds and cooler weather - because of the work they would have to make up. Now that they're in High School & College, we can only go in the summer - we've been going the 2nd or 3rd week of August. It's hot and humid, but as long as there's airconditioning I don't mind. You do have the 3pm thunderstorms almost every day - the crowds are doable - most schools down south are back in session - and if you know how to work the system, the wait lines are not bad. Rates go down at the hotels after Aug. 15th . I would think the crowds would drop right after Labor Day - so what ever the better deal is for you. You'll have a great time.
