IMO, as long as they are not charging more because of the hurricane they are not doing anything wrong.

Now, If a bottle of water costs $2.50 normally and it now all of a sudden costs $5 that is wrong. But to put together special boxes with a variety of foods, including the bottle of water and charging $5 looks like a deal to me. Heck we pay $5 for a kids meal with less food on a normal day.

Also I would have to guess that most of the people on site would have normally paid a lot more for a meal then $5, heck a burger and fried runs double that.

Here's my thought.....

We're leaving tonight for WDW. We know there is a hurricane coming, but we're going anyway. We have room-only ressies for Saturday night, and our dreammaker package starts on Sunday. I expect to lose a day of UPH because of the hurricane, but there isn't much that can be done about it. Disney did not cause this hurricane, I know it's coming and I choose to go anyway. If I don't want to lose a UPH day, I should reschedule. I should have to pay for a hotel room that I use. Hurricanes no longer sneak up on us, we have enough technology to know they're coming several days before they arrive. Disney owes me nothing, except maybe a safe, clean hotel room that I paid for, that they charged a reasonable, standard fee for. I'm paying $77 a night for a room for Saturday night, that is the normal fee; it is not inflated due to a hurricane.

I'm done now.

my bet is that if they had opened the parks, you probably wouldn't have gone anyway, based on the wind and rain levels and the likelihood of rides or attractions being shut down;

EXACTLLY!!! I wanted to add to that... Property was Sold out for Hurricane Frances (granted there were a lot of evacuees) however they day after the storm (when there were Tornado warnings every five seconds), Epcot and Magic Kingdom were the only 2 parks open... Do you know how many people showed up at Magic Kingdom? For those that complain that Disney closed the parks (not from this thread but from others) and to those that think that Disney did not do enough... The day after Frances Magic Kingdom only reached 8,000 people in the park. That is all, the max for the day. The company LOST money having the park open, but did it so that the guests would not have cabin fever.

Oh and back to the survival bag... I just wanted to point out that a bottle of water (smaller than those they were issuing) from a vending machine (anywhere, not just on Disney property) costs $1.00, add the bag of chips at .75 cents and you have $1.75 throw in the uncrustables, the nutrigrain bar and the raisins and I think $5 is a very fair offer for the package. I think Dizgeek just likes to have a good fight whether right or wrong.

actually, you may be pleasantly surprised... if the parks are closed, disney (based on history w/the last two storms) will give you a uph to use w/in the next twenty years, so you may not lose that day, just get it another time or tack it on to the end of your vacation (we stayed an extra day due to airlines, so that replacement day came in handy!)

Good luck, stay safe, and enjoy your visit! wish i were there!

This thread makes me sigh "oh brother".....destruction, death, etc and people are complaining they didn't get refunds on unused park tickets.

If given the option, I would donate the 'cost' of that pass to hurricane relief.

FYI...I donated much more than the cost of a 1 day pass to a Florida hurricane charity.

Wow. I thought I was just asking a question. Some of you took it as an attack on the vaunted Kingdom. Sorry 'bout that.

LOL...did you get an answer? Basically, they do nothing unless your quick enough to ask to have your passes reimursed for days that the park was closed. But you may not want to do that, people died during the hurricanes ya know.

I'm one of the lucky ones, no damage to my house or family and I got future passes (that were already paid for).

I shouldve stayed away from this thread, I came away looking like a guy that enjoys death and destruction in Florida. I better not post any responses to the "Whos crusing on September 11th?" thread.

Wow...love the tone of this thread.

I think someone is just mad that the Skyway was temporarily closed due to the high winds.

Let me take a wild guess here DizGeek, you won't be going back at Christmas? Such a shame...you seem so jolly and all. :teeth:

You missed it all didnt you? Again, this is a post for "Disneys hurricane policy" it has nothing to do with rides being closed. My response was how they handled pass reimbursements. Should they not offer reimbursements due to the park being closed for 2 days?

No DizGeek, I think you in fact missed it....it was a joke.

I'll be there.,,and if the park closes for a day or 2 for whatever reason, I'll be sure to ask for a future park pass.

I seen it in the headlines down here that Central Florida Theme Paks lost over 36 Million Dollors in revenue due to hurricane Charlie.

So how much money do you really think they made??

Last time I checked generators aren't free. So your saying the power company should give you one for free if you loose power?

Come on people grocery stores charge gas stations charge mickey charges.

Doug

BTW where leaving tuesday for Disney and yes Jeanne is suppose to hit sunday. WOOOOHOOOOO hope Norway has my scool bread ready and my dw napolean ready at France.

Dizgeek, no one said you were not entitled to your opinion. What everyone on the board is irritated about is your rude comments and your persistant banttering. Your need to continue to attack and make your point. We got it, we understand your position on the matter. No one thinks you enjoy death and destruction we just think you should have some patience and a little compasion. Your one day park ticket it the least of Floridas worries. If you think that Disney did you wrong than go to Six Flags on your next vacation.

Your Rude deminor is what is upsetting people. Your comment of "But you may not want to do that, people died during the hurricanes ya know." is insensitive and not necessary. No one said you were not entitled to a refund of unused tickets. As a front desk CM (one that also by the way was there for September 11th and very well aware of what Disney does for their guests to accomodate in unforseable situations), I can tell you that even though people may not have "asked" for their refund or may not have been given it right away, the situation was being taken care of. As I stated before MANY people choose not to go to the park even when it was open so perhaps some people didn't feel that a refund was necessary. Some people actually understand that this was at no fault to Disney and perhaps decided that they did not feel they needed anything in return. As WDWSearcher stated Disney does not "have" to give you anything back...THAT IS WHAT TRIP INSURANCE IS FOR...they do because they are Disney and it is good customer service, but they are not required to.

Again we understand where you stand on the matter at hand and yes perhaps Disney did drop the ball on getting over 50,000 tickets refunded Immediatley, but there is no need for you to be rude to those that are responding to the thread...just like you they are entitled to their opinions. Please stop attacking everyone and making this like you are the victim (you got your tickets refunded...MOVE ON).

YIKES.

I would like to thank Disney for all it does to accommodate evacuees, including blocking off rooms in case some people need to stay longer than what was initially anticipated. I may be evacuating to Disney because right now I have a Cat 3 storm predicted to make landfall in my back yard.

Count your blessings. You got your precious days back.

I hope I don't regret responding. I think the answer to the thread was answered: Disney has no responsibility to reimburse anything due to weather. I never would have expected it either. If you chose to go during a hurricane than you chose the consequences. What does the insurance they offer cover? I thought it was for these types of situations. If you didn't buy travel insurance than I say tough. I was extremely surprised that Disney offered cancellations. I believe they went way beyond their duty during these hurricanes. They didn't owe anyone anything.

i was less than "quick" (LOL) and did not ask for anything, but was *offered* tickets to come back on a future trip (w/in the next 20 years)... like i said before, i truly believe it depended on the cm at the front desk... if he/she was not usually a front desk cm, but rather a fill-in from elsewhere in disney (yep, cm's were doing whatever they could to help guests! even saw manager-types cleaning off tables in the food court), then they may not have been "quick" enough to offer ticket reimbursement, but had to be asked... there's no shame in doing their best under unusual circumstances... but it is a shame that you, dizgeek (who's posts i have enjoyed in the past, but not so much on this thread) take such great offense at human error... must be that you're perfect?

It's worse than I thought....you missed riding the Skyway AND the Swan Boats didn't you? Man, I'd be livid too. Makes you just want to grab a CM and beat the crap out of him, eh? Especially when the whole hurricane thing was a hoax put on by NASA and The Disney Company.
