Disney has finally suceeded

OP, sorry you had a bad bus experience.

As for the obese comment, I've been waiting for this. Everyone complains about the strollers, the wheelchairs, the smokers, the EVCs, etc, so now it's time for the obese to get their turn. Don't worry though before you know it, the physically fit will be in line to get it too.

While some may not like the comment, the OP is the one who had the experience. How would any of us know how she felt unless we were in her place? I've had people's ample bottoms in my face on the buses-not fun. To be fair, I would not have been any happier if the bottoms had been tight-although the view might have been prettier.

I've only recently started to really get involved in these boards since coming back from Disney and I have been amazed at the spitefulness, selfishness and general whiney attitude of a lot of posters.

I've had my eyes opened to how others feel about people like Mom who is (unfortunately) bound to an ECV.

I'm sure my ample bottom has been in unwanted places on the bus and I've had a few swing my way too but I see it for what it is - a crowded bus. Life is too short to get so bent out of shape over minor things - there are far worse things that could happen to you so be thankful :)

If people who didn't agree with these types of posts wouldn't post on them, they would die a lot faster. Instead, you just feed them. You should just ignore them and watch them fade away.

You're absolutely right which is exactly why I left a certain board the other day and haven't been back - I don't want to feed it.

I have just been very surprised by what I have read here - I was expecting it to be all pixie dust and hi ho-ing

Then the driver decides to get everyone off the bus at the stop for POP. All the way at the other side of the bus stops. I have hip and knee problems which make it more difficult to walk. This is one of the reasons I booked the resort I did. The bus stops are closer to the gate. When I mentioned this to the driver while asking him why we were not at our stop---he actually looked at me and said "ya right"--as if I were lying to him. Then he proceeded to tell me to get off the bus.

This is the only part where I got lost. I never noticed that buses *dropped off* at exact spots. And each day, it seemed, during our trip, the spots to *pick up* changed for our resorts. So there's absolutely NO way, in my experience, to book a resort that's *going to get you closer* for drop off or even pick-up at the parks.

And the comment about the belly? Really?

So while describing her experience, she should have just said that her son was in close proximity to a woman's belly? Leaving out the other part? Wouldn't saying it without the descriptive word STILL describe it? Wouldn't we all figure it out anyway?

And..."a baby who was playing with your son", really? Drooling and *kicking* is "playing", now? I must disagree with this.

...so now it's time for the obese to get their turn..

Oh please, weight is *hardly* the last thing that people complain about. You should have been there at DCA when DH found out that he couldn't ride Mulholland Madness, to hear the nasty nasty comments of people as he got out of the ride vehicle (and we had to move fast to get me next to my then 5 year old so he wasn't riding alone). Weight is NOT the last thing people complain about. And people were so nasty that my husband had tears in his eyes. Of course, we were also waiting on the official diagnosis from the two MRIs he had the week before our vacation, to find out that he did indeed have a pituitary tumor that was creating prolactin, which was a huge *cause* of his extreme weight gain (on an already bigger frame) and was also the cause of his extreme emotions.

BUT describing someone while talking about how the person was smooshing her child is NOT bashing the woman. The woman should NOT have put herself into that position, or once there, figured out that there was a child at belly height, and try to fix the situation. Not just stand there to squish the kid AND let her son kick him. Who *does* that?

LONG LIVE PLAYFUL BABIES, DOUBLE STROLLERS, AND PARENTS WHO HAVE SUPPLIES!

I don't mind playful babies, or even screaming babies on the bus, I do, however, object to a parent not carrying their baby in such a way that said child does not kick other children.
I just don't get the oversized suv stroller deal, it reminds me of people who cart huge carry ons on to planes and the whole plane has to sit and watch as they try to cram them into the overhead. A lightweight easily collapsed stroller seems like the smart choice to me, if only to make it easier for the parent hauling the thing on and off the buses, plus aren't the over the top ones a target for thieves when they are parked while the family does rides?
There are supplies and then there is packing like you're going on a multi-day expedition into the wilderness and I have seen the later.
I am concerned that over packing the buses may be a cost cutting strategy and if I wanted to experience the jammed public transportation to be had in some 3rd world countries I'd be visiting them. IMO, if the bus is so jammed that someone's stomach is pressing against someone's face, the driver has let too many people on the bus - we've all seen buses go by and not stop while we are waiting because they are full, or had a bus pull out while we were in line because it was full, sounds like this should have happened in this case.

Sometimes kicking babies and strollers in the way are not the fault of the parent either. Many times last week when we boarded the bus (after waiting for a second bus), and actually getting a seat, the driver would pack the bus so full that people would be standing right on top of me holding my boys or bumping into my husband holding the stroller, we try our best not to let our kids kick or bump anybody or have our stroller touch anyone, but sometimes it just happens.

You said the camera was sitting on your lap and that your son had his face in a woman's belly with a baby drooling on him so that means he was on the outside seat if you two were sitting together. If so how did the stroller hit your camera? I also did not know there is a place on top to put strollers but then again we always go off season. Sorry I'm just a bit confused. :confused3

let me reiterate---we were sitting on the bench row of seats, not on a regular seat. The stroller was folded and leaning because the parent was trying to keep the children from being trampled--I do not blame the parent for trying to protect thier child--I also do not blame the parent for bringing a stroller. The stroller shifted and while I was trying to prevent another person from stepping on my feet, the stroller smashed into my bag.

I also have not boarded buses that were too crowded deciding to wait for a less crowded bus.

The child that was drooling on and kicking my son was not "playing" he was throwing a fit. As far as the obese woman, let me say that I am by no means a super model but I have enough sense not to get on a bus where my overly ample parts will be stuffed into someone else's face.

My rant/vent was not meant to rag on babies or strollers or fat people. And for the woman with scooter issue--I never even mentioned scooters. My rant/vent was targeted to the bus driver that thinks that all Disney guests should be treated like cattle. That even though people have gigantic backpacks and enormous strollers they still need to suck it up and move it down.

And besides all that, when did we become a society of people with no common sense. If you have 2 small children, an enormous backpack and a double wide super deluxe stroller why would you even try to get on a bus that is already full?

Wow! I'm amazed at how a double stroller got up high enough to smash a camera lens. It must have been really bouncy!

Sorry you had a bad ride, but just like how others can't see your medical conditions, you aren't taking the time to see the challenges of getting multiple small children around the park. And the comment about the belly? Really?

If the bus driver was the problem, the bus driver was the problem. Not the people who have made investments in strollers that are sturdy or a baby who was playing with your son. No need to bash everyone else.

The people who ruin times during my trip (pretty hard to ruin a WHOLE trip) are the grumpy ones. Giving families dirty looks and treating families like a burden on a family resort.

You caught me on a bad day. But this post was mean.

I agree, the OP lost me at the belly comment ,just mean.. all those people want to go to their resort too after a long tiring day I have a feeling had the OP been one wanting to get on the bus they wouldnt have waited and would have crammed on too.Disney is kid central and sorry I just dont feel bad for people that have a problem with kids and strollers if it bothers you that much find a more adult vacation place

The incident occurred on the way to Epcot--not going back to the resort. I do not have a problem with children. Most Children would have enough sense not to get on a bus that is already over crowded. I do not cram onto buses. I wait for another one.

If you have 2 small children on their first (and perhaps only) trip to WDW, and they're SO excited to be going to one of the parks, do you honestly think common sense is going to prevail over enthusiasm? My kids are older and soon will be going on their 9th WDW trips, and if I suggested we wait for a less crowded bus anytime recently, they'd be all for it. But on their 1st trip a few years ago, NO WAY. They just wanted to get there, and they'd have gladly stood on a crowded bus.

I'm sorry your bus driver made some bad decisions. But you don't need to insult your fellow passengers.

Not going the road of the morality police...as humans I'm sure each of us have had frustrating days when our choice of words wasn't the best.... just sayin.... :thumbsup2

I've been on a few buses over the years that were stuffed to the gills with people standing super-close, children piled onto laps, everyone doing all they could to get thru the awkward discomfort of it all with the bus driver standing at the door yelling to make more room in spite of the fact that a shoe-horn couldn't have wedged another person into the space. It makes an already unpleasant situation worse. So for that, I can comiserate with the OP. Personally, I like having my car to get around. Much more relaxing and quiet especially at the end of a long haul in a park. It's faster and I knooooow I won't be standing. In fact, the heated seat does wonders for an aching back....:wizard:

Really? Really? This is Disney! You are not a first time visitor, have you never ridden the buses there before? The guests are packed on like sardines. In my experiences, most people try to make light of the situation. As a matter of fact, last month on a trip from Epcot back to our resort, kids started a sing-a-long and got the whole bus singing!

I am sorry that your camera got broken but people with "overly ample parts" have every right to ride the bus system as you do, as do people with strollers and babies. Geez, give people a break.

Jennie

We always rent a car. We refuse to take Disney buses. One trip from Beach Club to MK on a crowded bus, with a dad standing up at the back of the bus and working his kids and the everybody else's kids into a MK frenzy was enough to cure us of Disney buses -- forever.

you very well might be. People don't wait for anything anymore, need to be there yesterday.
On the flip side its good to see a nice crowded shoulder to shoulder bus.
If there are belongings that could be damanged then its my responsibility to put it away in my bag or backpack to try to prevent it from being damaged.
All too often when a park closes people that are standing waste so much space between each other cause they dont want to get cooties or something that an additional 10 or so people could get on if they moved....
Kinda like the first couple standing walk onto the bus and stop in the middle of it to stand....its like cmon people there are alot more people who would like to get on this ride. It is a me me me world afterall. Good to see the bus packed to the rafters.....this driver should train the others to pack em in and dont leave the stop till it is!!

Am I in the minority to think that people should use their common sense and not board an overcrowded bus? I've waited for the next bus several times. I don't want to step on anyone's toes anymore than they want me to.

I.
I just don't get the oversized suv stroller deal, <snip> A lightweight easily collapsed stroller seems like the smart choice to me, if only to make it easier for the parent hauling the thing on and off the buses

i will tell you why we bring a "larger" single stroller as opposed to an umbrella type stroller... the smaller, lightweight, easily collapsed strollers are impossible to find with handles tall enough for a 6'4" daddy to push... his feet hit the wheels with every stride, and he has to hunch his back over to reach the handles... very uncomfortable! now, we don't have a 100lb stroller worth $500... we have a graco, which probably weighs 15lbs and cost $100, but it is bulkier than some others we've tried, but none of the others (and trust me, i've tried plenty of strollers!) are easily pushed by a tall person...

If you have been to Disney before you know this is a way of life while there. It's been happening for years and won't stop any time soon. And even waiting for the next bus isn't going to help unless your just looking for a seat. you'll get a seat for sure but you will also have people standing as the bus get's packed. it's really a no win situation with the buses, you just have to suck it up and go with the flow.

with that said i wish i was in line for a disney bus right now!

The OP ride from hell on the Disney bus sounds like my everyday commute to and from work on the MBTA in the metro Boston area!! Each day I ride the Terror Train (also called the Green Line) so I am in tip top shape to face any issues a Disney bus ride can throw at me...its like being in boot camp training for 12 months before my annual 1 week vacation. :)
