disney half marathon

Are you running, or just going to be in the parks? It's Labor Day weekend and runDisney sells out it's DLR races in hours these days. So expect crowds on top of crowds.

If you are running (or just interested) there is a thread on this section of the forum and another one on the W.I.S.H. section specifically for the RunDisney events.

I'm going, but I haven't been before and have no idea what to expect :rotfl: But I do suspect there will be some serious crowds!

We're going (kids run) and been going the last 3 years. We have a blast!!

I am going! I'm not worried about the crowds cuz I'm going before... but I want to know like.. should I care about my run times or my photo ops?

If you run at a 10 minute pace, take the pictures. If you're more along the lines of a 15 minute pace, don't take the pictures.

It's hard to answer without knowing your pace and where you're expecting to be in the corrals.

You're paying for all the Disney extras, so may as well take advantage of them. At the same time, you don't want to get swept.

This will be my first run, and I just hope to finish. We'll be starting in the last corral, although we're planning to get there early enough to be at the front. Our plan is to stop for photo opportunities if we want to and feel like we have time, but we understand that lines for characters will probably be too long by the time we get there and may have to give them a miss.

My first RunDisney race was the Neverland 5K in January and although I had an amazing time I was surprised that my competitiveness kicked in as soon as the gun went off and I ran a PR. I was proud I finished under 30 minutes but a little disappointed I didn't get more pictures and enjoy the Disney experience more.

I'll be running the 10k in August (and the Avengers half in November :thumbsup2) and although I've got time goals I'm also planning on slowing up a bit to soak up the atmosphere, get some pictures with characters, and enjoy the overall experience more.

That's my plan anyway, we'll see if I stick with it. My plan for the the 5k was to just jog it and stop whenever I felt like it but apparently my competitive spirit didn't get the memo.

Running easy it's a 900 but I'm not sure if I'm stopping for pictures how that'll affect me. I was signed up so I'm running in the no time qouted category. I'm thinking the same thing about the pictures and enjoying the scenery. Maye not the best race to go all out on.

Definitely stop by the thread for the half here on the Disneyland Board, there's a lot of other runners on these boards to bounce ideas off of, offer tips and advice and what not. Here's the link if you're interested: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3220040

As for your question about taking photos, even in the last corral if there's a photo you would like, by all means stop for it! Unless your time is something that you're shooting for a speedy time. I usually run about 12-13 minute miles for the half and even when I started last corral I could have stopped for a photo or two and still been good on the time window. But I'll usually skip the photos that have ridiculously long lines.
