disney grand california sale start 1-25-09 for founding members

:) True. But if I'm being honest I would have taken whatever I could have gotten and just done banking and borrowing, etc for a stay now and then. Plus we tend to visit in the off season for 2-3 nights at a time. However while that sort of strategy worked for a long while for many DVC members, the new points charts has suddenly created a problem for members who barely had enough points to go every 2-3 years.

So I'll just call our extra points our "buffer" against future point reallocation.

So no, I don't think I'll say a word. In truth my DH would rather me not. He just wants me to handle it and so I'll spare him the agony of wondering about what ifs and what the most responsible thing would be to do financially. I'm thoughtful like that. ;)

We've already spent enough time on this.

Uhm . . . how unethical would it be for me not to mention this new revelation to DH? The one that means we might not have had to buy a minimum of 100 points.

Never mind. Don't answer that! :rolleyes1

I wouldn't worry. Your DH seems to love you enough that you will get however much Disney you need to make you happy. Even though they are allowing you to break the contracts into smaller amounts I didn't ask if you could buy in at less than 100. The three 75s work good for me. For now I get 25 more than I had planned and if years down the road the Grandkids get tired of Disney it will be easier for me to shed points and get to level that's comfortable for me and my DW.

My husband just wants me to handle it too. I'm at work this morning and our guide called the house and talked to my husband. He told her that I was 'on the blogs' to figure out what we'd need, but that we did want to purchase. She said 'so you're going to buy 500 points right!' He said no, I think 100... Way to try to upsell my husband!
He asked how sales were going and she enthusiastically said GREAT!

I wish that I would have known that when I bought our points yesterday :headache:.

I would have prefered to buy three smaller contracts instead of just one large one, but ultimately I am just glad that we were able to complete our purchase on day 1 and be sure that we were able to buy into the Grand Californian. We love Disneyland way too much to have missed out on this one!

For those that bought yesterday that are interested in the lower point multi contracts. Why didn't you ask for them? JW

I did and was told No. But this was probably 2 days ago. Also it turns out that we're buying a small enough contract that it doesnt' really matter much to me anyway. If I were looking at - say - 150 or 175 points then it would however.

Are they not allowing members to split their contracts into smaller denominations?

I'm waiting for March 25 to be able to hopefully become a VGC member. I have a question on multiple contracts. Do you have to transfer your points into 1 contract to use them on a reservation if the point value exceeds the amount on the first contract? If so, I read about limits on transfers. Is the limit for each contract? That is, if I have 3 contracts, could I transfer from one and then the next one later?

I did do that--one contract at 200 points and three contracts at 100 points each.

I personally don't think you'll have any trouble getting points. One thing I'm curious about is whether points will be available at that time to the general public as well . . . anybody know?

You can use your contracts at the same resort as if they were one contract. No transferring necessary unless it's between members.

Actually I am the "general public" :-) so I guess I really have to wait until March 26. We were in DL in December and I met with a guide but didn't realize I had to buy at WDW to get VGC. I really agonized over the decision but we've never been to WDW and LOVE DL and decided to keep our money to buy more points at VGC than spend the money for WDW which I don't think we would use as much since we're in the Pacific Northwest too and tend to do long weekend trips to California. I'm hoping I made the right decision.

I'm sure points will be available for you. As a new member your initial contract will need to be 160 points and after that you can break them up into smaller amounts. Multiple contracts at the same resort and under the same UY work the same as one large contract, no transferring is needed.

I think you'll get points, too. It's especially good that for insurance you have met with a guide already and have gotten on their list. Because I'm not certain that EVERYONE who wants to buy in as a new member will be able to. So be persistant as soon as you are eligible. I think you made the right decision for you. Last summer I was convinced that points would never make it beyond the current membership but with our new economy I now think that they will. You'll need all the money you can get for VGC - that's quite a point chart!

Hope to welcome you home soon!

I just checked the member website and my new GCV contracts and points are showing already. Pretty darn exciting! ::yes::

My guide told me that the 100 point minimum has been done away with. This thread has gotten so long and I've been away for a couple of days and have been speed reading and may have missed it being posted. But instead of two 100 point contracts I'm going with three 75 point contracts! I'm not sure you still need to purchase more than 100 points but the smaller contracts are a better investment I think

WHAT!!!!!!!:crazy2:

When did this change??? We are on the founding members list and didn't buy because we did not want 100 points.

Can anyone confirm if the minimum is gone???:mic: :joker: :clown: :joker:

Call your guide! Founding member sales just started yesterday. You have PLENTY of time. However, it is possible that the minimum total purchased is still 100. :confused3

I think the CA DVC office is still ironing out details.

My points were in my account last night. :goodvibes

I'm wondering the 100 pt minimum was done away with or just the fact that you still have to buy 100 pts or more and they are just letting you break that into smaller contracts.

How does the financing work when you break them up. Three 75 point contracts? Are the credit payments and dues taken out at the same time or seperate for each?

On our SSR/AKV add ons, all payments were electronic debits on the same day. Each contract loan payment was a separate amount, but the dues for all were one lump sum for the month.
