Does anyone know anything about a Disney gift card that you can use at the parks?? I thought this would be great for the kids!

I had a bunch of them from doing rewards programs and used them up on my trip last week. It's just a small "credit card" that you load with however much money you want (cute for the kids, Mickey "moves" depending on how you move or look at the card) They were very easy to use, but a few times we ran into CMs that were stumped on how to use them. It never took long, there was always another CM nearby who could walk them through it. I think they're just so new that not everyone has come across them yet.

I didn't have problems using it anywhere I tried. I bought food, souvenirs, and even used it at a Food and Wine Festival booth that just has a little portable CC machine rather than a full register.

Just make sure you label them somehow if you have more than one. I started out being good about it - I'd scratch part of the back off (there's a small section that covers a PIN or something that scratches off like a lottery ticket) so I'd know that it was a partially used card. By the end of the trip I'm handing a few cards to the CM's, "I don't know which one has how much so you might need a couple of these" LOL! So take a Sharpie or something and write each kid's name so you can keep track easier.

Are these the ones you can also get at the Disney stores? Do they ever expire? We are starting the savings process all over again for our trip in 5 years. For this past trip I saved by buying some Disney Dollars. Was wondering if I could get one of these cards and just add money to it over the next 5 years and then use it on the trip. Can you use them to pay off the charges you have applied to your room while there?

Sounds like OP is referring to the new universal Disney Gift Card, which can be purchased at DIsney Stores, online, or at WDW or DLR.

The new cards are called "universal" because they can be used at all of those places, too - inlcluding all the shops, stores, eateries and restaurants in teh DIsney parks and resorts (WDW and DLR), DisneyShopping.com, and the Disney Stores nationwide.

The cards work like WalMart gift cards - you load them with a minimum start-up of $5, then use them and reload them as many times as you want. I've been adding $20 at a time to mine as a way of saving for my next trip.

The cards are good just about anywhere at WDW, except the resort front desks (their computers are not yet tied into the gift card system, but should be by the end of 2006).

The best part of the cards is that if you lose them, they can be cancelled and repaced, just like a lost park pass, as long as you have the original purchase reciept. To me, this makes them absolutely perfect for kids.

You can buy them and check your balance here:

Yes, I received a gift card from the Disney Store for my birthday and it states that I can use it at the store, the parks, online, or on the cruise.
