Sounds like OP is referring to the new universal Disney Gift Card, which can be purchased at DIsney Stores, online, or at WDW or DLR.
The new cards are called "universal" because they can be used at all of those places, too - inlcluding all the shops, stores, eateries and restaurants in teh DIsney parks and resorts (WDW and DLR), DisneyShopping.com, and the Disney Stores nationwide.
The cards work like
WalMart gift cards - you load them with a minimum start-up of $5, then use them and reload them as many times as you want. I've been adding $20 at a time to mine as a way of saving for my next trip.
The cards are good just about anywhere at WDW, except the resort front desks (their computers are not yet tied into the gift card system, but should be by the end of 2006).
The best part of the cards is that if you lose them, they can be cancelled and repaced, just like a lost park pass, as long as you have the original purchase reciept. To me, this makes them absolutely perfect for kids.
