I have not used my Target GC's since this whole access code thing. Can you use self-checkout? I have six GC's and six access codes.

No idea, I always check out with a cashier. One store doesn't allow you to get the gc you get with purchase at self checkout and when I tried it at the other I ended up having to have someone help me because it wouldn't work or something. This was all prior to the software update on the self checkouts so I have no idea if it's changed or not. I don't have a problem using a cashier for these purchases so it's easier for me to do it that way.

Not the OP, but I have bought a few GCs from Target recently and I just ignore the "get your access code" and scan the barcode. It works fine. This has been through self checkout and through the regular lane.

So, you are out an extra $99? Or were you able to get it fixed?

I didn't try. It's on my credit card. If it were a lot of money, I would have called and tried to see if they could reverse it and put it on my gift card instead. It's pretty baffling. My DH says he told them we would be back to pay off the remainder another day. It was two days before checkout so I have no idea. And certainly wasn't even close to the threshold being that it was not even $100.

@wendow be prepared with the access code thing. Mine gave me trouble in self check out last week. The cashier had to come put my machine in employee mode and then type in the access codes.

That's really strange. When I went to pay, I clicked on my Target account (app) on my phone, clicked on my gift card, it popped up and said I needed the access code, I ignored and just scanned the barcode like normal. I hope their systems are not updating where everyone will now have to have the access code. That will be a huge hassle when trying to redeem multiple cards!

Does it matter if I purchase gift cards in-store vs. online with store pickup? Is the $25 automatically credited, or do I have to request it after the fact? Thanks!

Credit is automatic. Can be multiple transactions. Not sure on gift cards. I purchase Disney gift cards in store with shopkick to get an extra 0.4%.

Looks like no free shipping tho If I add it to my cart and estimate the shipping it adds $5 for a total of 484.99

ETA: Forgot to mention, it's listed in the "Adventures and Getaways" gift card category. The other ones are in the "Extreme Values" category and still say Free Shipping.
