Disney Gift Card Deals

For those who are going into a Target store to combine GCs to avoid them being drained, I would ask them to combine the balances onto one of the cards they have behind the check-out stands (the ones they give you for the $5 bonuses) since those would not be out in the store and vulnerable to fraudsters.

I cashed out all my physical Target cards to disney yesterday due to fear of them being drained. I haven't loaded my cards into my DVA yet. I should probably get on that and make a payment towards my hotel reservation.

I read somewhere that the staff will often "recycle" those $5 bonus cards and if the card was previously used by someone and entered into their app your balance will show on their app!

No one here knows how the thieves are able to drain other people's gift cards, we only have speculation about how it is being done. Therefore, I think it is ridiculous to run in and get new gift cards since we don't know the method it is being done or how widespread it is.

I don't know that erring on the side of caution is ridiculous. If I hadn't already cashed mine out, I would be running in to get a new one, and I would explain what's been happening and ask for one in the most out of reach location.

For Kroger shoppers, I used the regal gift card digital coupon and for some reason it took $10 off each gift card. So I got a $15 and a $25 gift card (they only had one loadable one to put $15 on) for $20. And the coupon is still on my account???

According to the yahoo article, the thieves take off the strip over the PIN or card number, copy down the number, and then replace it with a brand new strip which they can easily buy for cheap. As ariel1025 wrote above, this means any type of gift card is susceptible. However, the chance that Disney gift cards have been compromised is probably much lower. The thieves want cards to stores which they can buy merchandise, so stores like Target, Walmart, and Amazon are probably much more likely to be compromised than Disney.

I seem to just not have luck in getting my disney gift cards with target gift cards. Went to one store a few weeks ago, had issues at self check out and then asked and they said i couldn't use them. Went to a different one and went to self check out (there were no signs or anything) and bought $300- they didn't have any others left in the store. (Still had $600 in target gift cards remaining) went back today and found $175. Went to self check out and at my 3rd card it was telling me the activation code had been scanned already so I had to ask someone for help. She cancelled my order and said i need to go to a cashier. Went to cashier and she wouldn't let me use gift cards and I told her i was able to 2 weeks ago. I thought if it went through on self checkout that meant the store allowed it since the first store I went to it wouldn't take the gift card. She wouldnt try the gift card because it was linked to her name. Guess the system would process it, even though the store doesn't allow it.

Anyway. LOL anyone know of a target in NYC that will let me before I try every store :rotfl2:

Hmmm . . . I can't find a Regal coupon. Wondering if they pulled it. Oh well.

My husband could not get Walmartpay to work. He kept getting an error message that asked him to select a different method of payment. Will link a different Amex card a try again.
Did you ever figure out a way to make this work? Thanks.

He tried twice to buy a $100 Walmart gift card, and it failed both times. Then he tried it just buying a pack of gum and it worked. He didn't try 3rd party cards. I think we'll go back toward the end of this month and just buy $100 worth of groceries.

Amazon cards don't have a strip, at least not the one's I've been buying lately. They and the Starbucks cards I've been getting at Fred Meyer (Kroger store in PNW) are in a cardboard package and the cashier has to remove a piece to scan the barcode. The Starbucks scans without doing that but you have to open the package to get the card out. I don't see how they could be compromised without someone knowing and I imagine more will need to go to this type to avoid it.

I tried to buy Disney gift cards and got the same error as your husband. Like you, I think I'll just buy $100 worth of groceries.

I order a physical target GC online the balance still intact I am going to keep it longer since our trip is not until March. I figure that was how the thieves were getting their info. I always transfer my Disney GC right away to an old GC so that is one way to keep those balances save, unfortunately with target it is an on going issue with eGC and physical ones from the store :sad2:. I never load my cards to the app or leave it in my account I just don't trust them.

The Chinese Internet is much more restrictive than I figured. I had planned on buying at least $1,500 in discounted Target gift cards but the problem was that the promotion ran on December 4. I left LAX at midnight for Thailand, via Shanghai. Target never revealed the details until December 2, stating that purchases in store could be made all day and on line from 12:00 AM till 11:59 PM Pacific time. I had created five separate Target accounts, using family members, and had five credit cards ready to purchase; one for each target account. If Target had started at 12:00 AM Central time (their headquarters is in Minnesota, Central time), I could have purchased them while sitting at LAX. About two hours into the flight, I tried the airline's wifi and was presented with the notification that Target's website wasn't accessible on that server. I would have had time arriving in Thailand if the flight had been on time but after clearing customs and accessing the airports wifi, I had 5 minutes left to the shut off time and gave up. The funny thing is, on the return portion, I tried to check in for a Southwest flight from Lax to MCI at the 24 hour mark and got the same message, except that it was the Southwest website that was not accessible. I guess that I'll just use my debit RedCard or buy the Disney gift cards from Sam's Club, using my Disney or Southwest RR Chase credit card.

Do you normally shop at target? I lump my giftcards into my regular shopping and don't make a peep as to how much is on my gift card. My Target shopping trip was over $1000 ($900 was Disney) this week, but the total dropped way down after I used three $300 gift cards LOL!!!!

I am guessing that the 3 packs of $50 gift card from Sam's are fairly safe since they come in a hard plastic shell that you have to pry open to use?? I have quite a few of them I was planning to combine and bring with me in March.
