Disney Gift Card Deals

I had a totally different experience yesterday here in the Houston area. I went to the regular checkout with 2 books that were on sale (buy 2, get a $5 gift card) and 6 $50 Disney cards, so I could use my $300 gift card from Dec 4. She saw the Disney gift cards, and said "Oh, I'm so jealous! You're going to Disney!" I told her that it was over a year away, but she said, it doesn't matter, because I was able to count down! So I told her that she could do what I'm doing, saving up the little Target cards and turning them into Disney cards. She was very sweet, and I almost wish I could take her along instead of my family ;)

A few weeks ago I tried to buy Disney GCs with my Target GCs at Self Checkout. It did not go well! It ended up freezing up the computer and the whole thing had to be reset. Then I had zero balances on the GCs I had scanned already. Had to wait about 30 minutes, then went to customer service where the rep that was helping me at self checkout was working. Still no balance! Then she manually credited the balance back. I then went to regular checkout and got my Disney GCs just fine. Lesson learned - I won't use self checkout for GCs again.

EEK!

It was actually pretty easy to use. Scan the barcode at the top, scan the barcode on the gift card itself. But next time, I will go through the regular lines and hope it goes through. I do have some other merchandise to buy as well.

You can skip the barcode on the top. You only need to scan the barcode on the gift card.

Just checked and my physical target gift cards were drained. I'm going to call target in a little bit (I'm at work). I had 2 -$300 gift cards. :(

Actually, I have to wait till I get home to call because I don't have the gift cards with me here. I hope they'll do the right thing and straighten this out.

Are the physical gift cards being drained even with the scratch off stuff intact? Is it both target and Disney gift cards?

Crap! I'm so sorry :(. I hope they do the right thing. I have 3 $300 cards left but I'm not sure how much of it I want to turn into Disney cards. I wish I could buy a Target card with a Target card online but that's what got me in trouble a couple weeks ago.

If you go into a store, guest services can combine or divvy up your cards onto new cards.

I'm sure you can go into the store and buy new target gc with the ones you have. I would go to customer service desk and explain that in fear of them being drained you want new ones.

I'm sorry for everyone that is getting their gc drained.
I myself purchased $900 worth on 12/4 with gc - would have purchased more but was worried that target-disney was dead. First thing Monday I went and turned all of that into Disney gc at self checkout (3 transactions) with no problems.

AT least one is reported to have had that. That's one of the reasons why I went to Target yesterday to trade in the two $300 Target GCs I had. I have one more left which I plan to do this weekend.

Oh and it's Target gift cards at the moment.

The problem is that any gift card you get from a store is potentially compromised. I took my two gift cards to a store last night and thought about buying new ones but I figured since my old ones haven't been fraudulently used yet I'm probably better off keeping them - I'm hoping the thieves, if they are operating by using photos of the gift card bar-codes, tried to use all that they had as quickly as possible after 12/4.

Just Target And yep. Scratch offs still intact, cards used.

I just used one of mine for groceries, etc. & it was fine. I've scratched off the back for online purchases myself so I'm worried it will be a bit harder to get a Target refund on that one if it gets drained. I haven't tried my other $300, it still has the scratch intact so if it's empty I'm hoping it will be easier to get a replacement.

That's true.

What about this? Taking an old target gift card (purchased prior to 12/4) weather it has a balance or not and transferring the new gc funds to that. I know I have a bunch of old $0 target gc sitting around. They are all re-loadable. I'm sure CS can do that and there is no way for the thieves to have a photo of a gift card that was in your possession for more than a month. Well less chance at least. Just a thought.

This is an interesting idea. I think you are correct - if I've had a gift card for months and months, I doubt anyone took a picture of the bar-code before I bought it. I might even have one that I got from Target.com, which I think are likely to be safer than ones from a store. I'll have to see it I can find one.

Maybe instead of trying to block patrons from buying GC with legal tender (ie other GC), stores should be more concerned with the illegal draining of these GC. What they lost in the glory days of churning pales in comparison to what they'll lose replacing stolen GC.

So sorry! Oh no! I will have to check my physical gift cards when I get home.

I don't think you can transfer balances anymore. I'm pretty sure they shut that down two years ago.

I think you can combine balances in the store, just not online. But I have not done either in a long time so I am not sure.

I combined them in store on December 4 without a problem. I was paying at self check and wanted to use up a smaller balance card first but scanned the wrong card first. Ended up with $1 on one card and $10 on a second. The woman at customer service was more than happy to combine them into one card.
