Effective immediately, the Disney Gift Card will be undergoing a nomenclature change. It will now be known as the Disney Value Card.

The function will remain the same, and you will still be able to use it to Shop, Dine, Stay & Play at the Disneyland Resort, the Walt Disney World Resort, Disney Cruise Line, Disney Store locations in the United States, DisneyShopping.com, and Adventures by Disney. Currently valid Disney Gift Cards should not be affected.

Just wanted to get this out there, so you're not all wondering what people are talking about when they mention the new term.

Thanx, we have the gift cards for our trip in 3 days!!! Wonder why the name change??? :confused3

Maybe they noticed that people weren't using them as gifts, but were budgeting their own trips with them! I think they're valuable for that, therefore, a Value!

Eh, I think name changes like that are silly. Now they have to spend money making new signs, designing new cards, blah blah blah. Oh wait, maybe it'll create jobs? Hey that's cool. Silly but cool. :)

So glendalais, where do you work in the parks? (or outside of the actual park?) I assume you work there, but I don't know where!

Thanks for the update. But I really am curious to know why they changed the name. Usually, 'value' implies some kind of a good-deal/bargain, when it remains simply a gift card. Strange.

That is exactly what I was thinking. :) Unless it offers a deal or value I don't see the point in putting my money on gift cards. :confused3

They should have called it a "Disney Budget Fun Card"!! That's what we are going to use ours for, to keep us in check with our funds.;)

Maybe it's the fact that they want people to think of it more as a good deal and value to go to or spend money at Disneyland ect. Attach the word value to something like that and it will affect how some people view it especially once people get used to it. Sneaky.

I think it is because "Gift" cards dont expire, by law. But I bet they found some loophole that allows "value" cards to expire.

Where'd you get this info, glendalais?

Ooh, you have a sneaky mind. Excellent for unraveling things like this.

And here I was hoping they'd give you a little extra, like our Tully's Coffee places (are supposed to) put 10% extra on gift cards when you buy 'em.

The Birthday "Fun" Card is subject to the same non-expiry rules so I'm thinking that isn't it.

I just called the folks over at Disney Gift Card and asked about this. They said the card name wasn't changing, it's just what's on the receipts. Not sure why they did that, but it appears there's no change to the cards or how anyone will be referring to them.

Not sure where glendalais got the info (although it seems like company info that probably wasn't supposed to be given out to folks like us), but I think maybe it was just misinterpreted.

because on this trip my boys are old enough to do their own budgeting. Last year they did a great job at WDW...I figure DLR will be easier.

I just wish they had more card options. All I could find online was the waving Mickey and a winter scene. I'm hoping that in the near future they offer a summery card. It will be easier to keep track of what's left on the cards if they aren't identical.

lntsmom, they have a much bigger selection in the parks. So instead of ordering more, you can just put the money into savings, transfer it before your vacation, and just buy them when you get there.

And see, if you were into autograph books you might have a Sharpie with you, and you could just keep track of it on the card! :rotfl:

But really, I keep the receipt with the giftcard I used it with. The balance of the GC is on each receipt (I love the female CMs who use their fingernails to make a circle around it on the receipt...does this funky "carbon paper" mark) along with the last 4 digits of the card. Helps with the record keeping.

And since we actually don't use Sharpies iwth our autograph books, when we get home I call the number on the back, and sharpie the balance on the back of the card then.

Glendalais, will the cards still be used on disneyshopping.com?

Try http://www.disneyland.com/giftcard They've got a bunch of designs there.

Hey...thanks! The one I purchased was thru the disneystore.com link. They send me an e-mail every danged day, and I finally decided to follow the link and look for cards there!

I see the ones at disney.com don't offer as much of a selection on price, but that shouldn't be too big a problem!

BTW...I don't think that even worrying about keeping track of the balances is enough to convince me to buy an autograph book! I always feel sorry for the costume character CMs. It's hot, for one thing. Unless Disney has some costume magic, I know how those costumes smell from the inside. Plus, people are completely nuts when it comes to folks in costume. I had kids punch me and step on my feet just to be funny. Worse were the women who would pass me their phone numbers, assuming a man was in the costume. Hello??? I'm 5'2". Even with a rat head on I'm under 6', :rotfl: . (Now, that's a phrase that doesn't come up often in conversation!) I think that experience ruined the whole character magic thing for me.
