Hey it's great that there is a Gay and lesbian subforum in this forum.

But for the life of me I cannot think of any Disney movies supportiing our lifestyle

Does anyone know any?

Well Timon and Pumba seemed quite......er........"friendly". :thumbsup2

Chip and Dale? :confused3

And dont even get me started on some of the Evil Queens!:lmao:

Well, they did GI Jane, does that count? :rotfl2:

You also have to remember all of the companies under the Disney umbrella:

Lifetime
Touchstone
Dimension
Hollywood Pictures
ABC
Miramax

So while they may not be the minds behind any "gay films", at the same time many of their movies and shows have gay themes.

I think it's great how they sneak in characters in shows like Ugly Betty (especially when Mark was dating the kinda bear-ish guy). It helps people get more acclimated to a gay presence than an in-your-face gay show or movie that many would just not watch.

I would like to give credit to a young Disney actor Tommy Kirk, for being heroic in the early 1960's to come out as openly gay.

Disney did NOT support this decision by Tommy, and his movie career suffered and his Disney contract was not renewed.

In 2006 he was inducted as a Disney Legend.

Of the many Disney movies (NOT gay) that he helped make famous:

The Absent Minded Professor (1961) and The Shaggy Dog (1959).

Phil

:confused3 But he was in some later films after his contract expired:

The Misadventures of Merlin Jones (1964)
The Monkey's Uncle (1965 (w/ Annette Funnicello :cool1:).

I'd agree....with the exception of Here!, Logo, and Bravo....ABC is probably the gayest network on TV....and it's EASILY the gayest of the big 4 networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox). And while they may not have any specific gay movies under the actual Disney label....I would argue that many Disney films include themes or storylines that seem very relevant to LGBTQ lives....we could probably do a great thread about where we see LGBTQ themes in Disney animated pictures...

.....immediately popping to mind (because I just watched it on Thanksgiving) is even the recent TinkerBell movie (obvious fairy puns aside :lmao: :lmao: ) where the overarching message is basically that you are born who you are and you become what you become and that there is no use in trying to change the person you were created to be and that you are at your best when you celebrate who you truly are inside. I do a lot of work professionally with LGBTQ youth and I can't think of a message I'd like them to hear MORE than that one!!:goodvibes :goodvibes

Greatest gay Tommy Kirk movie?
SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON!
He and James MacArthur are SHIRTLESS for like 2/3 of the whole damn movie!
That made QUITE an impression on me as a kid!:thumbsup2
