Disney for just 1 day?!

I am thinking of surprising my 4 yr old with a 1 day in the parks and 2 nights at a resort-- we've been twice before but he has been asking everyday for a year when we can go back so I thought about not telling him until we get there--- anybody done this? Should I make a reservation and buy tickets ahead or can I buy tickets when we get there? Ive only ever booked packages so some help would be great-- and what would be the most cost effective plan?

If you are able to find a room only discount, then that would probably be the cheaper route to go, since it's only for 2 nights and one day. Free dining (if offered for your dates ) wouldn't work, since you would be required to buy 2 day tickets for each of you. You could buy tickets when you arrive at your resort. Or through a place like UT at a slight discount. You could check out mousesavers.com for other discounts.

2 nights but only one day? For me, 2 nights could mean 3 days, depending on what time we got in that first day.

We would be doing other things in orlando-- it would just be 1 day at the magic kingdom
