disney food yuck!

My sister said exactly the same as you about the food at WDW! Until I showed her what she was missing:goodvibes
As others have said read the menus and follow the restaurant section of the Disboards- there are even photos posted - you get a pretty accurate idea of what is great or otherwise. Just don`t do it when you`re hungery!
Probably the best meals I`ve eaten have been on Disney property -Jiko, California Grill, le Cellier- the list could go on............

Quote :Wayneg, Can't believe you have the abilty to get out of Disney but don't. I would not even contemplate going to Florida without a car. I know some do but I think if you get a car and venture out of Disney you would enjoy it a lot more, the food available within a 20 minute drive is amazing and so cheap. I am sure I would feel like you if I was onsite 24/7, persuade him to get a car.

Agree totally with Wayneg :thumbsup2 you gotta get out of "The World" and see what else is out there, including the food. Can't believe people go and spend the whole time onsite

Another poster touched on this but you can get better food off property for less money. I don't visit Disney for the food, that's for sure. The reason Disney offers magical express is to keep you there to spend money on their food products. That's what pays for Magical Express.

I'm an extremely picky eater and still manage to find lots of meals at WDW that I enjoy :)
At most table service restaurants they will swap items, like mash potatoes for fries etc.

I must admit, I can't understand the love of Mac 'n' Cheese that they seem to have in the US - especially the radiactive bright yellow stuff!

Its a pity you are only staying on-site as the choices are huge outside the confines of WDW,

Totally agree with you Obi !! There are loads of top class restaurants within a short drive outside the "World". You don't have to eat on site !! We never have, and we have been 7 times.

For some reason a lot people miss the swan/dolphin resturants. :
Main reason its missed is that its not a disney hotel so none of there resturants are on the ddp and i think no dde discount

As for eating ofsite we eat at outback on one of our non ddp days.it was happy hour for the beer(before 7pm)10 of us we had 3 oinions,3 kids joeys with deserts.the rest of us(7 no) all had the victoria centre cut 9oz which came with a salad.
Total cost with tip and beers $250.Taxi back from publix nearby with extra beers was $20 inc tip to pop, would cost same to outback but we got one to primium outlets and walked to outback that taxi cost $15 from pop.The food was as good as the top disney places and worked out cheaper than ddp.Next year not doing plan as with tip and app removed cost increase betwen 30-48%(noted on ddp board) we paid for 7nights and free for 5 nights

I must admit, I can't understand the love of Mac 'n' Cheese that they seem to have in the US - especially the radiactive bright yellow stuff!

I prefer the Kraft radioactive bright orange macaroni and cheese ;) It was a treat for us when we were kids and i've been known to buy a kids meal here and there at Disney so I can get the orange macaroni on the side!

Can't believe people go and spend the whole time onsite

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 Totally agree....that is why Disney think they can charge higher prices if they have a captive audience. popcorn::

The choice should be yours ! :goodvibes

We don't drive so we will eat at Disney and most times we have had some pretty good and varied meals. I must admit I don't understand the love affair they have with cheese, as someone who hates the stuff it's on nearly everything.

we stayed in disney twice and the 1st time we found the food very good in counter service and resturants, but last year we got really bored with the food in disney[counter service} ,but the resturants were still good and we never had a car,but this {aug}we stayed off site and had car for 1st time{the best thing ive done is get a car} bad experience with hotel, but would never stay in disney again[villa next time} anyway the places to eat outside disney were brillant and cheap ,we did have some counter service this year buts its poor when you have eat outside disney

We're another one for a thumbs down for Disney food. Even our DD's have got to the stage where they prefer a packed lunch when we are at the parks!.

We do pick up footer Hot Dogs, Turkey Legs (for a laugh more than anything else) and Churros, which are great but we won't lunch or dine at the parks. Cost, as mentioned in this post earlier, is one thing but just time is another thing. For a fast food country we always find lunchtime a scrum and cant abide wasting time queing for garbage chips and burgers when we could be on the rides.

I appreciate that some of the venues such as Crystal Palace are an experience but we just never combine them when we are at the parks.

Having said that however Chef Mickey's is a must every time we go, and that goes for the Grandparents as well!

am i alone. am i the only person that thought the food at disney is yuck.
we stayed at the cbr and only ate in the parks.
what is it with mashed potatoe and macaroni cheese everywhere yuck
we are going back next year and staying at the por and are planning to book crt, 1900 park fare, chef mickey and hollywood and vine for the kids.
does anyone have any recommendations? it has to be within disney as we arent driving while there.
thanks kellie:)

Agree. Fast food at the parks - poor and overpriced.

Not really eaten at restaurants that much apart from:-
Rainforest Cafe - Food OK, but overpriced.
Mama Melrose - Food decent but again not cheap.
Chef Micket character breakfast - Food very good not cheap but worth if for the overall experience.
Rose and Crown - Food Awful and expensive (but good view of the fireworks!)

I can't help but think that you must miss out on so much by not driving over there. The roads are far better and easier to read than our roads, and everything is so well signposted (not like UK).

Each to their own though........ but if you didn't restrict yourself you would find some amazing restaurants outwith Disney World. For instance there is Don Pablos Mexican (where Tiger Woods frequents), and many other top restaurants along the long stretch of International Drive. Even off the "Drive" there are so many to choose from, and they are not overpriced like Disney.

Also agree that you should get out of Disney and explore - there is so much to see and do. Florida isn't just Disney !!

On a lighter note, wayneg - we do the same.... cheese with just about everything !!

Cheese with everything, mac cheese, mash potato - sounds like heaven :goodvibes

We have only ever ate in the parks at lunchtime and that was counter service - I thought they were all great for what it was - quick and easy food. :thumbsup2

This year we are staying onsite and will have dinner onsite a few times but will probably venture out to the i-drive most nights as the choices there are great... Don Pablos, Dan Marinos, Race Rock and loads loads more... eating is part of our holiday :woohoo: and we don't like to be tied down to where we eat either as our days are planned, it's nice to wing it at night ;) :cloud9:

I am a Disney fan but not a fanatic.

Like 'Florida' not just WDW.

As far as restaurants go I have limited experience as Joshua - as many of you know - just doesn't like them generally, especially around the parks where I feel lucky if I get a Turkey Leg. ;)

Personally I have always thought eating at a Disney restaurant is as much about 'where' you are as 'what' you are eating.

You may getter a better breakfast at Golden Corral or IHOP but you won't be entertained by Winnie The Pooh and Tigger!

Everyone does WDW their own way, especially where food is involved!
We stay onsite and we always have a good breakfast in the hotel before hitting the parks and then just have a snack during the day. This could be a churro or a visit to one of the good bakeries. It has taken us a few visits to find the bakeries as some are not that obvious. We then enjoy a table service meal about 6pm. This is what works for us. We all enjoy eating out and probably don't have a fast food meal the entire holiday. I have never come accross the cheese thing.:confused3

The table service meals are not cheap but for us, this is an important part of our holiday. We all sit down for a couple of hour, recharge the batteries and talk about our day. This can be just as memorable for us as some of the rides.

We do have some favourite places to eat onsite.

Le Cellier
Hollywood Brown Derby
Coral Reef
Le Chefs de France

I would do some research before you go. Have a good look at the menus and listen to the restaurant reviews on the podcast.

Personally I have always thought eating at a Disney restaurant is as much about 'where' you are as 'what' you are eating.

That's what I think as well. Vitos do better steaks than the Yachtsman for half the price, but it's not as classy. The food at Whispering Canyon is nothing better than average but look at the surroundings.

If I want an experience I go to a Disney restaurant, if I want good food and loads of it I tend to look offsite.

I'm amazed that there are people who spend their whole holiday onsite though. You don't know what you're missing.

We always get a car but like to drink so as we stay at Saratoga Springs and can walk to crossroads and the restaurants just beyond. However we like the restaurants in Disney. I am not a vegatarian but often pick the veggie options.

The goats town in Ragland Road is delicious

followed by the mushroom burger.

The stuffed pepper at Prime time is quite good too

We too like Le Cellier, Californian Grill, House of Blues, Jikos, Brown Derby and if you can afford to splash out Victoria and Alberts.

Was not keen on the crab burger at Rainforest Cafe this year.

Of course we have to go to the Hard Rock Cafe but go for lunch so we can drive back "home" to Disney
