am i alone. am i the only person that thought the food at disney is yuck.
we stayed at the cbr and only ate in the parks.
what is it with mashed potatoe and macaroni cheese everywhere yuck
we are going back next year and staying at the por and are planning to book crt, 1900 park fare, chef mickey and hollywood and vine for the kids.
does anyone have any recommendations? it has to be within disney as we arent driving while there.
thanks kellie:)

Your on your own in my opinion. We had some lovely meals at Disney. It all does depend on where you eat.

It might be worth looking on here for the list of menus

That way you know what the resturants offer. I never felt that I ate badly out there. This time I had one burger and two hot dogs. Rest were wonderful meals. Best meal in my opinion was Ragland Road at PI. Closely followed by LTT. H&V I was not that impressed with. The food was rather greasy and gave dh and I tummy aches afterwards. My dh still likes it and insists we use this resturant as our fantasmic package.

Also look into other hotels for dining. Polynesian Hotel Kona Cafe, Whispering Canyon at Fort Wilderness etc.

If you do some research you wont eat badly at WDW. :goodvibes

I honestly can't agree - we've really enjoyed most of the food we've had at WDW. Fave restaurants are Ohana's, Artist's Point, Coral Reef, Brown Derby, Fulton's Crab House - I could go on... ;) I don't think we've ever had anything that could be described as 'yuck'. Not keen on the look of the turkey legs so haven't bothered to try 'em...

Its very difficult as everyone likes to eat different things.
We love Pecos Bills in MK for the chicken salad wrap plus other places.
Thankfully never seen mashed potato and macaroni cheese.
We know too many great places off site so don't dine Disney for evening meals, their prices are crazy IMHO others love onsite. I would hate to be tied to Disney 24/7
Never had a problem with counter service for lunch.

regarding Raglan Road at PI, friends of ours that are Disney CM's went 2 weeks ago and said they will never return, it was overpriced and poor quality. Like I say everyone like different things.

To be completely honest, I think that the Counter Service food is pretty yucky too... but then I am not a junk food person anyway...

If we eat at Disney, I always try to get us into a Table Service restaurant and they tend to be ok (although I think that you can eat a lot better for a lot cheaper outside of the parks...). To be completely honest, even the better Disney restaurants have generally not been as good as many better restaurants outside of Disney (although there are exceptions to this of course...). Generally if we are staying off-site, then we will eat most of our meals off-site...

As with all things Disney (restaurants, hotels, toys etc), you are paying a premium for it being "Disney".

We had some wonderful meals too. However, DD is a fussy eater so I did look on AllEars before making reservations to ensure everyone would find something they liked on the menu. We had the free dining plan which turned out to be way too much food when it was so hot.

Having said that I'm not sure why most restaurants insist on using mash or garlic mash which DD and I both hate! However, some restaurants allowed us to substitute mash for french fries or rice.

The one critiscam that can never be leveld at Disney is lack of choice. virtually every style of food and etnicity is available within the world.

If the places you were going to had potato and mac cheese on their menues, again being American all you have to say is "can we have something different" and they will oblige.

Its a pity yu are only staying on-site as the choices are huge outside the confines of WDW,

We have had some really good meals at WDW, although for choice the hotels are best. But for theme parks we have found Le Cellier to be great at Epcot. At the hotels Boma, Yachtsman Steakhouse, ESPN, Grand Floridian Cafe and Yacht Club Galley have all been very nice.

As for counter service it can be repetative at times but that is the way of convenience food, you sometimes have to pick and choose where to eat.

If you fancy venturing slightly off site then at Crossroads there is TGI Fridays, Red Lobster and Pizzeria Uno. All 3 do a good variety of food.

Claire ;)

As a vegetarian I find the food pretty bad, the choices are very limited and by the end of the holiday I am so bored with the food. My favourite place to eat is Crystal Palace, even there tho the veg choices are small, they used to do a delicious hot pasta but this year it had bacon in it!

the mash potatoe and mac cheese weren't together they just seem to be on all the menus that we saw.
it was our 1st trip to disney and so we did just eat where ever we happened to be. with all the recommendations that people have given on this site we will be trying new places but they have to be within disney as dh is a taxi driver and doesnt want to drive on holiday and i dont drive.
so please keep the ideas coming
thanks

If you don't mind a walk then Crossroads is straight up the road from DTD and about a 15 minute walk or a short taxi drive away.

One of the best things about Disney is they are super flexible and if you really didn't want mash or macaroni cheese (both of which I quite like!) you can always ask for a substitution. Even at the counter service places you could ask for substitutions, I found them very accommodating.

Lots of times i'd ask for salad instead of mash as I was hoping to not get too full for dessert!

Next time don't be afraid to ask for something else. As for recommendations, we found the food at Le Cellier, Kona Cafe and Wolfgang Puck Cafe really fantastic. Just thinking about the Macadamia Mahi Mahi at Kona Cafe makes me drool and that comes with a lovely risotto so no mash or macaroni! ;)

As you're staying at the POR you'll find their counter service quite good, it has fresh salads and a pasta bar where you can pick your own sauce, pasta etc and lots of variety. Boatwrights is nice as well and you have the boat to DTD which also has some great restaurants - Wolfgang Puck Express is a great counter service restaurant which does lots of nice stuff - pizza, pasta and although you might not be interested to know this their garlic mash is very good! :rotfl2:

Sorry you didn't enjoy the food this time but hopefully if you do a bit of research and check out some of the menus on the link above you'll be able to enjoy all your meals on your next trip!

are you kidding...I love disney food!

(my scales don't when I come back mind you)

I love everything from my breakfast at the resort (always 2 slices of toast, cereal, and a croissant) through to my evening meal of junk food! Yummy!

I'm on holiday so I eat whatever I want which normally I don't as I try and eat healthy blah blah blah!

Bring on the WDW food!

Can't believe you have the abilty to get out of Disney but don't. I would not even contemplate going to Florida without a car. I know some do but I think if you get a car and venture out of Disney you would enjoy it a lot more, the food available within a 20 minute drive is amazing and so cheap. I am sure I would feel like you if I was onsite 24/7, persuade him to get a car:goodvibes

I'm not overly keen on most of the CS lunch options so we've assigned most of our dining plan CS credits to breakfasts as neither of us are 'a slice of toast and out the door' kind of people if we can help it (maybe on rushed work days but not on holiday!) Epcot has the best CS lunch options though (something different to the usual burger and fries type of stuff) especially in the World Showcase. We particularly like the look of Cantina De San Angel, Tangierine Cafe and Lotus Blossom Cafe. I also enjoyed Columbia Harbour House in MK, they do a really nice chilli bowl and half a sandwich combo :) For our dinners we're eating at TS places or offsite.

For some reason a lot people miss the swan/dolphin resturants. The Garden Grill by day and Gullivers by night at the Swan has fantasitc food both on alacart and buffet style. Wednesday is pasta night with some of the best fresh made to order dishes I've had in along time. The poster who is vegetarian may wish to check them out they always seem to have a well balanced, variety of foods. The Dolphin has a wonderful new place called the Fresh Mediterrainian Market, Fresh made to order Mediterrainian food in a table service setting, that is all you can eat. The only downside is their hours only open for breakfast and lunch, however, I'm hoping they will change as time goes by and be open for dinner. :hippie:

I don't find the food yuk but did have a big problem at WDW in finding a restaurant within the parks that serves a selection of food that everyone in my family (and there are only 4 of us!) will eat.

I also found the habit of slapping a slice of cheese on a lot of the meat dishes rather strange.

By far the easiest place for us to eat was at the hotel food court, we also found buffets to be a better choice.

But I certainly found mealtimes to be stressful.

Whats strange about it? Any sandwich I make at home with cold meat I also put cheese in, cheese on just about anything we eat, chicken, burgers, steak, love it. Always have even before going to Disney.:goodvibes

Me too, I can't relax eating in Disney same as I can eating offsite.
